Customer Review: Adequate basic recorder
I was looking for a second entry-level -R/RW recorder, having already got a Funai 2737 (which does the job fine). Decided to try the Toshiba as it had the benefit of Chase Play. In actual fact, this Toshiba seems to be the same underlying chassis as the Funai, with a different (somewhat more attractive) fascia. All rear ports and the user interface are all identical. The only difference is the addition of chase play. If you are drawn to this machine because of this feature then beware. Chase play can only be used when recording in quality setting of long play, or lower. This is tolerable on a small screen TV, but the quality when viewed on a large screen is barely acceptable, more or less making chase play a feature you will never use anyway.
Apart from that, the unit looks and works fine, however, it might be worth considering the Funai and saving yourself ?25.
Customer Review: Not a bad machine, just too noisy
This machine has some very good points, but its too noisy to be used in a living room. Ours was RMAed.
On the plus side:
- Discs are initalised quickly, you can be recording on DVD-R within 20 secs.
- The menu system is clear and easy to use
- The DVD playing machanism is very quiet, you can’t hear the disc spinning at all
- The DVD-R disc recorded played perfectly in Pioneer DVD (Dv464), Argos in Car DVD and PC.
- It can play CDs of Jpegs.
However the downsides out weight these good features:
- Its very noisy, there is case fan at the back, that is always on when the recorder is. Watching Planet Earth with the DVD recording is, unconfortable, there is a constant whiring. Its 3 or 4 times noisyer than my AV reciever and I thought that was noisy!
- remote control is “boxy” and square, hence unconfortable in the hand.
- DVD-R take a LONG time to finalise, over 20 Mins.
- It cannot play DVD-R discs of photo JPEGs burnt on my PC, that my Pioneer DVD player plays fine.
Hence only 3 stars I’m afraid ….

Customer Review: High Quality but with some limitations
This is an incredible machine for the money. It’s best trick is the DVD upscaling to 1080p through HDMI which has stopped me bothering about HD-DVD and Blu-Ray until the format war is over. On my 1080p capable Sony TV the picture quality is simply staggering - worth the asking price alone. Normal TV upscaling with less data to work with is less impressive but perfectly acceptable. Recording quality depends on your signal quality and compression - use HQ if you have the disc space. Flexibility to edit TV recordings before transfer to TV (removing unwanted sections) is easy and the transfer quality is very good depending on the settings you use. When dubbing to DVD the HXD870 appears to be incapable of recording something else to HD (unlike when watching a recording or DVD at the same time which is fine). It you look ahead a few days in the digital TV listings there can be a substantial delay in completing the full schedule - for some reason this data isn’t immediately available on the hard drive which seems an odd decision by Sony. This can be annoying when trying to schedule recordings, a procedure that is otherwise very simple. I was disappointed that despite indications to the contrary your recorded TV and DVDs cannot be played back through the aerial. This is a simple pass through connection only - there is no channel to tune into like a VCR. It does feed a picture to HDMI and Scart outputs at the same time so you can use a separate modulator if a feed to a remote TV is wanted. Digital audio output is coax only. If you ask a question through the Sony website, be prepared to wait. They get to it eventually but this service does not appear to have a high priority. The limitations of the HXD870 only affect you when doing unusual things. As soon as you play a DVD at HD resolution you forgive it everything!
Customer Review: Wonderful box
The Sony RDR 870 is simple a wonderful piece of equipment once you are able to get it up and running. The documentation is easy to follow if only concerned about connecting Freeview or analogue/satellite. Trying to connect both is not explained and you are more or less left with trial and error and some pointers hidden in quite a sizeable document. Contacting Sony was a waste of time as no one appears to respond to your email*. As always Amazon did a great job in delivering on time and the equipment in one piece. Unlike a friends experience with Bt Shop were the whole process was a nightmare from beginning to end *To update my review and to be fair to Sony, they made contact by telehone and confirmed my connections to be correct. A bit late but at least they showed that they do care about customers.

Had the unit for a few weeks now, have found it OK as far as recording to HDD, but thats only if I’m not watching anything else at the same time! As it interferes with the TV station that I’m watching. It is very slow at start-up, seems like ages before I can do anything! and the drive is a little noisy. I live in an area where there is very poor digital signal, so dont have alot of channels to view via the set, no ITV or CH4, and sometimes no BBC!… hope that will change in the future. In the meantime I have to record via the satelite, which defeats its object really!

Sorry, but I have to go against the flow here. I found this machine both difficult to use and unreliable. So much so that I had to take advantage of Amazon’s excellent return policy. I now have a sony RDRHXD560S which I find simnplicity itself to use and excellent quality.

Customer Review: A REVELATION
As my old Philips 26-inch analogue TV had ‘gone on the blink’ I selected this Sony receiver from Amazon’s extensive stock. It arrived on 26 July and was easy to install single handed as it only weighs 15kg. Setting up was very easy thanks to the Auto-tuning facility. I like the security option of entering a PIN code: should the set be stolen and later recovered, entering your chosen PIN number confirms your ownership. The antenna is a small Yagi in the loft, installed in 1969, and I was pleased to find that the picture quality is excellent. The sound quality is quite adequate considering the set is only 10cm thick and this is the only reason for my 4-star rating. (If possible, connect it to a hi-fi system with the supplied leads for a superior performance). I’ve connected the TV to a DVD recorder and a VHS recorder, simply done using the two SCART sockets. When programming the VHS recorder, the TV sorts out the appropriate AV connection. With this set-up I can record two programmes while watching live TV In conclusion, this was a very good buy, since it receives analogue stations too, and I thoroughly recommend it.

This is an excellent widescreen TV - I got the silver version which I think looks a little bit nicer. It is really easy to set up the digital and analogue channels and customise the programme channels, the sound is superb and the vision brilliant. And it takes up no more room than my old 26inch Panasonic - perhaps less. I don’t watch many of the Freeview channels, but it’s nice to have them available (eg the History channel and Sky Sports News). And for someone who does not have Sky or any cable package, it’s a treat to have Ceefax available via digital channels and be able to access pages within a page at will. Nor did I need any adjustment to my roof top aerial, which must be donkeys years old! It’s also great having the TV automatically recognise when I want to view something on VCR or DVD. An excellent purchase.

I got this TV mainly for use with Freeview. From looking at other LCD TVs in the shops I could clearly see the benefits of the 100Hz motion flow feature. This really helps cut down on the blocky pictures which can occur when not using a HD signal. Still not quite as sharpe as a CRT, but the closest I have found. Worth paying the extra for the qaulity. I have connected to my HIFI system to give the sound a little bit more of a boost as bass is a little lacking. Great TV, and very easy to use and very responsive to the remote (some LCDs take a second or two to respond).
Customer Review: Everything went to plan
I’d been toying with buying this model for a few weeks based on various reviews. The Panasonic 700 model and the Sony seem neck and neck in the press so I picked the sony to match everthing else in the house. I placed my current 28″ trinitron old set and 32D together and at first there was no real difference. Switching off the light sensor and a few tweaks and the new set had richer tones. Setting it up the set was simplicity itself and I a very pleased with the result. Even my partner noticed the difference. So It’s definately better than my old set and I’m over the moon with the price and performance, and I’ve not even put an HD picture through it yet! The amazon price is way better than the large stores, even if you order on-line and collect locally. Lastly Delivery Like the previous reviewer I also took next day delivery (about ?7) , I live in Aberdeen. The unit arrived on time , unfortunately I had nipped out for a few minutes (sods law). The on-line tracking seemed to work well also (citilink).

Customer Review: Excellent for a Bedroom!
This TV was an excellent purchase at ?299! Connectivity is great, 3 scarts, 1 hdmi, 2 av, 1 component, dvi, vga(pc inputs), analog tuner and a digital tuner for freeview. When connected to my ps3 it displays in crisp 720p and 1080i giving a clear colourful image. I have yet to wall mount it but have read online that it is vesa standard 200×100. Blu ray disc looks incredible, casino royale looks amazing. Connected to my digital aerial i recieve 95 freeview channels including radio. Picture quality is great and has built in programme guide. Overall an excellent TV for bedrooms but I would not reccomend for a living room, 32″ or higher would be perfect.

Customer Review: Nice if you lose your original case - a bit fussy otherwise
This leather TomTom case is beautifully made and reeks of luxury. I bought one because I foolishly lost the original case. That’s it really. It’s got a nice flip down front lid so that you can use your TomTom while on foot, without exposing it to the elements, and it’s got a nice little holder for what appears to be a business card but is allegedly for a memory card. Rather more usefully, it comes with a strap, which was the real downside of the original case.
I have to say that, if there were a cheaper case available like the original one, I would have bought that. Don’t get me wrong — this one is really nice. It’s just that, well, deluxe leather is a luxury that I don’t really need.

Customer Review: Cute but not so great
I got this for birthday a couple of months ago. It was fairly new out at the time and my first reaction was “its tiny and so cute” I got it charged up and started playing. My previous MP3 had been a Zen nano + and I loved it, it was simple, and survived being flooded…when I got to the menu of the stone, I found it was no where near as simple, things didn’t seem to be in the right place. Then my clock was unreliable when it was synced with my computer. As another part of my present I was given skins..I was expecting bright cool colours..instead got red, dark blue and yellow, not so nice, but Creative give you no chice in colours. When I started college I found myself using it a lot, and the battery dying suprisingly quickly…2-3 hours. After reading some reviews I found this was common. I am frankly disappionted as all other Creative products seem to be reiable and prefered in my house. I’d say look at the V Plus which seems to be working far better

Purchased this MP3 player for my holiday as it ticked all the right boxes, small, cheap, decent size memory, has a built in FM radio etc. I still haven’t quite managed to fill the memory up, and i thought i would quite easily. Sound quality is great, menu is easy to use and responsive enough for me. My only annoyance with this player is that you cant skip through an album, you can only skip tracks. Also, i assumed that the player would come with some form of charger……no. You can only charge it through a USB port on a computer, however i purchased a USB plug charger for ?3 off EBay. So far im very happy with this product for the price i paid for it and would recommend it to anyone.

Customer Review: Was i just unlucky?
Bought one, spent ages uploading all the songs, then it stopped working within a couple of months. Unable to repair so given a replacement, that has also died, again after only a couple of months. So from my point of view, a nice idea and it looks great, but ultimately a total waste of money.
Customer Review: Very disappointing
I bought this to replace my iPod Shuffle but now I wish I hadn’t. I bought so I could store more songs and that is the only good thing about the iPod nano 4GB - it stores more songs that the Shuffle. The bad aspects of the iPod nano 4GB are-: battery life (absolutely shocking - had to charge it almost every day, even if I’d only used it for 2 or 3 hours), the freezing screen, lousy volume control and the fact it broke completely less than 1 month after I bought it. I wish I hadn’t wasted ?130 on it as it isn’t even worth ?1. I loved my iPod shuffle and expected this to be of similar quality - how wrong I was. I just hope that any iPod I buy in the future is of a decent quality.

Customer Review: Nice piece of kit
I bought this before Xmas to transfer my young daughters tapes and CDs onto. It performs well and has reasonable battery life. Plus points: Uses standard batteries and SD memory cards (I use a 2Gb card which is plenty of storage) Easy to load music Rugged design Nice headphones supplied (Koss) Minus points: A little slow to start up when using memory cards Navigation a little hard to master for younger children On the whole i recommend the unit and at the price it is good value for money.

Customer Review: The perfect first MP3 Player
After much humming and haring I decided to take the plunge and bought this player to dip my toe in the water. I only need it for the gym and after seven 1+ hour gym sessions the single AAA battery is still working fine. Whilst not as pleasing on the eye as an iPod it does the job. I had to replace the headphones with a better set I already had and that is the only reason I do not give this a 5 star rating. Having never heard music through a more expensive player I can not comment on the quality of the music but I have no complaints.

It could be great if the sound volume wasn’t so extremely low. If you listen to the music on the bus you can only hear the engine sound. Completely useless even for the bargain price.

At the time of writing this review there are 68 others already on here, but I thought I would tell you of my own experience with the ipod shuffle.
I go the gym and used to have a MP3 player - just a basic “memory stick” type that I plugged into my computer to recharge and I could drag & drop songs onto. Unfortunately it died so it was time to look for a new one. Now I was undecided whether to buy a basic model by a less well known company, or go for a leading name. It seems to me that if you’re prepared to go for a relatively unknown manufacturer you can get a basic mp3 player for half the price with twice the memory, but eventually after much deliberation I plumped for the apple ipod shuffle, swayed by a combination of the reputation of apple & (hopefully) a better build quality.
I have had it just over a week now and I think I have made the right decision.
Yes, there is no screen, but I knew that when I bought it. I know from my prior experience at the gym that I just tend to switch it on and let it play so I didn’t really need one. Also, I have a mobile phone that takes pictures, plays videos, games etc and I hardly use any of those features so I figured I wouldn’t need a screen to watch tiny videos on. The earphones are great - several reviwers say they fall out but I’ve used mine on the treadmill, rower, cross trainer, exercise bike and wave machine and they’ve stayed in throughout! I’ve got about 14 hours out of it before I had to recharge which is impressive, and although initially I missed the simplicity of the “drag & drop” method of my old mp3 player, its just a question of getting used to itunes and once you have it seems simple enough.
All in all, an excellent purchase and having never had any previous experience of apple or ipods I am very pleased with my purchase.

But Apple can’t make REAL portable video players.. Archos have had a touch screen portable video player out for a few months, with a hard drive TEN TIMES bigger than this..

Customer Review: Brilliant product
Having tried Pinnacle’s dvb-t stick on my laptop, which failed miserably (erasing the drivers for my DVD drive), I returned it and replaced it with this. In constrast to the Pinnacle stick, this is genuinely vista compatible. I plugged it in, and had the drivers working within a very short space of time. After the troubles with Pinnacle, I didn’t bother with the bundled software, but instead installed the stick in Windows Media Centre. This took around 15 minutes to complete, after which I was able to receive 70 channels. Picture quality is excellent, with none of the crashing that others have experienced. Overall, one very satisfied customer.

Drivers are completely Irratic and tryung to remove the product fully is impossible. Go somehwere else if you want a rpoduct like this. This one is just to unreliable in setting up.
