this is an excellent machine fine player.idiot proof to set up.but be warned if you have a large collection of divx to dvd movies you may have problems with playback.

Customer Review: Excellent Product.
After two failed PVRs of a similiar spec bought from Philips, the previous review tempted me to try the Panasonic DMR-EX77. I wasn’t disappointed, in fact ecstatically pleased. The set up is simplicity in itself, operation is intuitive and picture quality is awesome.

I will be very surprised if anyone purchasing one of these will be disappointed.

Customer Review: Poor and unreliable
As a straightforward VCR player/recorder this machine is good but it was bought for more than that. Its DVD recording qualities and capabilities let it down badly. When setting it to record to DVD from TV, it will sometimes fail to record at all. When it does record, and at a later date I put the disc in the machine, it will often either fail to read the disc altogether or indicate that the disc is empty which it clearly is not. It has now started another trick - when playing a pre-recorded DVD in the machine, part way through the film, the picture froze and now the machine is refusing to read the disc. I can’t replace this machine quickly enough. The instruction book is also very poor - far too basic and not really very helpful at all.
Customer Review: Slow and poor!
Switch this on and it wants to default to DVD every time, even if no DVD is in it tries to read one; this can take up to 90 seconds and won’t let you do anything while it does this. High quality recording needs short time of recording so forget anything more than about 1 hour with perfect recording quaility. Every time I insert a DVD it wants to display subtitles and sometimes refuses to allow you to cancel them. The VCR is the best part of this device as it works every time; set DVD to record on timer and its hit and miss whether you get anything recorded or get the programme you want. In my opinion, forget this, its simply not as good as it should be.

Customer Review: best format,best recorder,best buy.NOW!
i have owned this superb unit for about 18 months and cant find any realistic critisims worthy of note.i have seen some less than glowing reviews and would like to make a few suggestions to get the best from the recorder.firstly use decent scart leads the shorter the better, secondly set input/output to rgb/s video to suit your equipment.composite video phono is also available but why would you use it? playback of prerecorded discs and home recordings is as good as most ?150-?250 players.if you have an av system connect audio using optical output to improve already good quality.disc types use dvd-r for once only recording they play in as many other dvd players/drives as dvd+r.earlier panasonic recorders could be fazed by cheap and cheerful dvd-r but all work fine on this.dvd-ram use for recording/playback reusable a million times at ?3 each.dvd-ram are more limited in playback compatibility but then a look at your dvd player/drive will settle that.i have a panasonic 36inch widescreen and sky+ the recorder used to free up space on skys hard drive.it has been used heavily since it was bought and has performed faultlessly.cost ?350 when new and was worth every penny.bin your vcr now even 4hour mode is as good as vhs gets and 2hour mode as good as sky.using flexible recording 1-6 hours if set to 3hours still equals s-video quality anyway.buy dmre55 if you need progressive scan pal/ntsc or component video output otherwise dmre50 is all but identical.only other point of note dvd/hard drive recorders are more flexible and with plummeting prices maybe a better option, panasonic and toshiba best at present.finally dvd-ram can record and play at the same time much like a 4.7gb hard disc and you can use as many of these great discs as you like, other formats can do this now but dvd-ram always has.
Customer Review: The Best Of The Rest
As with all DVD Recorders and Players, there are good and there are bad, there is never going to be a happy medium. Panasonic are the leaders as far as quality is concerned, and they deserve the credit. I first tried the Philips 880 recorder, I found it easy to use and it had some nice features, the problem was that my stand alone DVD player didn’t play the DVD+ discs recorded on the Philips. So I opted for the more universal DVD-R, which to date I have never had a problem with. The RAM discs are fine for everyday use like a videotape but not for archiving. Features and socketry on the Panasonic DMR-E50 are fantastic. Don’t settle for anything less.

Sony RDRHXD970 - 250GB Hard Drive DVD Recorder

Sony RDRHXD970 - 250GB Hard Drive DVD Recorder
HDD DVD RECORDER 250GB INT DIG TV TUNER HDMI OUTPUT IN

Customer Review: Early days yet…but initial impressions poor.
Had my 970′ unit delivered to a neighbours house as I was out last week… She told me she had been also been out when it was delivered and later found it on the garden side of her six foot fence (with no access gate) sitting on its side in a huge ornamental flower pot ! I am frankly amazed that a ?300 (and very fragile) item could be handled so carelessly and now I’m just waiting for it to break down.

Performance, well, so far unimpressed, the freeview tuner is poor and cannot pick up, previously perfect ITV1 and C4 channels. My Samsung TV does not automatically switch over to it when wanting to watch a recording from DVD or HDD (does anyone know how to solve this?)and upscaling even with progressive scan setting to ‘on’ is no better than my replaced ?29.00 Philips DVD player! Only redeeming feature is ’series recording’. Moral of the story…. stay in for delivery and consider carefully whether you think a Sony branded, Pioneer recorder is really worth this kind of money.

Customer Review: Can a black box change your life?
I bought this after a bad experience with a Sony 860 (which went back), so I approached this machine with some trepidation. The previous machine had great facilities, but just didn’t work very well (poor sound, switched itself on and off etc!). Happily, this is a wonderful piece of kit and brilliant value for the money. Recordings to the HDD drive are superb (especially in HQ), and the EPG and series link work well. Setting programmes to record is so easy and dubbing to DVD is also simple and fast. Reviewing what has been recorded is a breeze; the recording list has thumbnails which play excerpts to remind you what the programme contains, as well as the programme title, time it was recorded, channel (BBC1..) etc.! Being able to start watching a recording before it has finished and the ease and fuss-free operation actually changes the way you watch TV. Also, it is a great DVD player and the upscaling via the HDMI link makes standard DVDs look near ‘HD’ quality. What’s not to like?

LG RH177 DVD Recorder (DVD+R Double Layer) + 80GB HDD
Customer Review: Multi-region?
I got this earlier in the year but it does not play anything DVD’s other than region 2 DVD’s. Be wary.
Customer Review: good but problems connecting to NTL!!!
I have recently purchased this DVD recorder, but am having great problems utilising its different functions. I use NTL, and cannot seem to programme the channels into the recorder, so at present I cannot record anything from TV. The recorder seems to pick up only one channel (the one that I have the NTL set on at that moment). It doesnt pick up any other channels! has anyone had (and hopefully solved!) similar problems? or any advice would be fantastic as this problem is really driving me mad! Except from that it delivers a good picture through my plasma, and can watch films (dvd/divx/avi) with no problems and easy operation! please email shona 569@hotmail.com or call 07810 543300 many thanks!

Customer Review: No problems so far
I ordered this product with much trepidation bearing in mind some of the negative earlier reviews. However, I wanted a cheap DVD recorder to archive material from my Sky+ hard disk, and this model was recommended to me elsewhere (and does have some good reviews elsewhere on the web). I’m pleased that so far the machine does exactly what I want. It’s easy to set up (I just connected SCARTs to my TV and Sky+ box; I didn’t bother with the aerial), the manual is OK, and I was surprised by how easy it is to use - as soon as I figured out that: (i) the correct set-up for the outputs is video/video-RGB/video (thanks for another review on Amazon for this), and (ii) you have to select the input (as Line 3 - otherwise if you switch the TV off the recording will stop! The quality of the recording is fine, even on the lower standards, and the discs play back just fine on my Mac. The sound recording level is a bit on the low side, though. The recorder looks OK, too, although the remote feels a bit cheap. I haven’t noticed any particular noise, and formatting is acceptably fast to me. As I say, my needs are rather specific, and if I wanted to do more I might find some of the problems others report. Also I’ve only had it a week, so there’s still time for the other problems to manifest themselves!
Customer Review: Disgusting waste of money
For starters we nearly didn’t get this dvd recorder because the 3rd party company that amazon jipped us into buying from didn’t leave a second ‘failed delivery’ slip so they nearly got away with our money and no product. As for the recorder? Well its aweful. I own a panasonic 5.1 surround sound with dvd recorder. Its awesome, quick recording and so many brilliant functions. My parents used it and decided to get one instead of sky plus. I looked on here and recommended this one as it had great reviews and it sony. You’d think that would be enough? Turns out this recorder is one of the worst i’ve ever come across. When you turn it on it takes forever to load the disks. The remote is aweful and navigating the menus becomes a drawn out affair. It takes about 2 mins to write to disk if you record for more than half an hour and decided it doesn’t like recording on the timer and sometimes skips record times. It doesn’t even support JPEGS!!! It doesn’t support all disks so i really can’t see why you would pay ?119.99 for it. Its quite horrific so just stay clear.

Customer Review: Very nasty product
I have had this machine about 6 months and it’s just about to go back to be repaired again. Even when it’s working, it’s so painfully slow that you end up pressing the button several times thinking it’s not doing anything. It takes about 2 minutes to warm up for a start. The most annoying thing for Sky/cable viewers is that it never remembers to default to the scart socket on startup. So you have to go through an agonisingly slow process of selecting ALL the other possible inputs in turn before being able to select the main scart input. Pretty irritating when you have to do that every time. Frankly it’s rubbish and Philips should be ashamed of themselves. I’ve had one of their microwaves for 20 years and the bulb hasn’t even gone yet. Something’s gone a bit wrong with their quality since then it seems.

Customer Review: Bargin TV- No problems
I’ve had this TV for over a month and not had a single problem…not ssure what the other review is talking about? I think its a fantastic TV for the money - picture quality is fantastic, espcially with my xbox hooked up. TV design is not the best looking - but for the price i would much prefer to have the outsanding picture quality than a glossy black trendy design!
Customer Review: Do not buy - Acer admitted many are faulty
Hi, Would like to share my experience with this TV - ours was dead on arrival (officially classified as such by ACER) because the remote infra-red sensor on the TV does not receive the IR signal from the remote so unless you are prepared to live without a remote, don’t buy. ACER are being less than helpful. I will spare the details but they know and carry on shipping faulty TVs. My conclusion is that the 32 lcd at ?400 have massive quality compromises. DO NOT BUY - DO NOT BUY - DO NOT BUY.

ATMT Digital TV DVB-T USB Stick Freeview receiver, black with Remote Control

ATMT Digital TV DVB-T USB Stick Freeview receiver, black with Remote Control
Customer Review: DVB-T stick
This is obviously a common DVB-T stick, made by the same plant out of China/Taiwan [as so much hardware is single-sourced] then branded by particular [western] companies who mostly do the end-customer support and marketing for their specific regions.

For instance, the MSI stick has an MSI box, and an MSI support number. The interface for USB DVB-T technically must be similar, as there are several options, from the other reviews, of software to use, in place of the included.

I bought a stick from www.digittrade.de. One reviewer who gave a low rating to his version, noted the lack of cooling vents, while my edition had a large vent on one side –

For the moment, let me look at a big picture; looking, as a comparison, at most of the Bluetooth USB sticks which are sold, where the value is in the 78 megabyte licensed software. Several of these 10? BT sticks are, I suspect, ‘grey’. That is, they may not have current/licensed software, or the software included is an unlicensed copy. Or require illegally hacked software, opened to allow for non-licensed sticks - In comparison, USB DVB-T sticks, which practically seem to be all the same, ‘under the hood’. A lot of value is in the licensed software; the hardware alone, being very cheap to produce, and the plastic housing customized to the marketing/support company’s wishes. The 35? DVB stick probably being manufactured for a cost around 2? –

to which I say, ‘cut it open!’ This is an inexpensive stick. If it has already been purchased, and overheats, it’s very simple to pry the case open and modify it, within a few minutes, and be watching Tele again.

Problems with the pre-packed TV Jukebox software (v3.0c):

The installer forcibly attempts to install a patch for Windows XP (KB822603), although the specific patch is no good for a XPSP2 or W2K3 (any non-XP) system. This means the installer for the TV Jukebox software quits, and the software does not work. Crackers!

The software’s DirectX detection routine does not follow Microsoft/Industry ‘Best Practices’: Running the TV Jukebox software on an XP machine, as a non-Administrator, the software quits with a ‘DirectX Not Installed’ error. A problem for those of us who choose to follow one of the first Best Practice methods: running as (Restricted) Users - blocking viruses, etc. from self-installing or corrupting our OS.

Thankfully, it appears, other software options are available, which I will SOON be checking out!

Customer Review: Quite disappointing…
Installation is no problem, and I didn’t even bother trying the supplied internal aerial, as it seems that nobody has any luck with any of those. I picked up plenty of channels on my regular TV aerial.

My problem is stuttering. When watching the TV you get jumping - if recording, then it’s on-screen corruption at the point where the jumping occurs. Bad signal? Well, possibly, but it’s reporting around 70-75% signal strength, and a friend’s MSI Sky Mega doesn’t have the problem, although it does get really HOT. Any this may be the problem with the ATMT stick (it’s actually a DigiO2 device, by the looks of it).

I noticed that when first used, there’s hardly any stuttering, but it progressively gets worse, as the stick gets hotter and hotter. The MSI stick has little vents, but the ATMT stick seems to be completely sealed, and I just wonder whether it’s just getting too hot - I might try and test this theory further by trying to keep the stick cool somehow.

Initial indications show that the supplied TV software (TV Jukebox) is ok, but interestingly, the drivers for the MSI device from their website, include PVR software that works with the ATMT stick, and potentially seems to be of a higher quality - it may be worth giving both a go.

I had hoped that I could use this stick as a make-shift PVR when on holiday, and the like, on my laptop - a lowly Dell Centrino 1.3Mhz. CPU utilisation doesn’t seem to be a problem, and the MSI seems to function just fine - if I could just persuade my mate to do a swap, I’d be sorted.

Customer support (or at least responses) from ATMT are pretty good, although no Vista support for the forseeable future, I’d be tempted to buy something else though. I know I keep going on about it, but the MSI device just worked, and so I’m returning the ATMT, and will try and find one of those instead.

Customer Review: Like all Satnav devices - not 100% reliable…
…don’t get me wrong - I’m very pleased with my 720. I’ve owned other devices including the 910 and the 720 gets 5 stars all round.

The problem is more of a generic one which frustrates me because it seems almost impossible to get Tomtom to deal with it.

Part of my route to work takes me along a country lane. I frequently encounter heavy goods vehicles coming the other way and getting stuck on a bend. This is because they are closely following their (please note correct spelling of ‘their’) Tomtom’s directions which have taken them away from the main road. For some reason which I don’t understand it seems that ALL Tomtoms make the same mistake with this particular route, and it’s been going on for years.

Why haven’t Tomtom done anything about it? Why don’t they respond when you try to contact them about it? I’ve submitted such details as I am able to Mapshare but nothing has changed yet.

Perhaps someone can enlighten me.

Customer Review: Tomtom 720
This is an up grade from my original Tomtom Go (which I kept up to date with latest european maps). Very pleased, spoken road numbers and names are extremley useful and make driving much easier. Map share seems good idea to correct the odd glitch. Connection to my Samsung D500 easy for voice comunication. Overall a very good product, and I am pleased I spent the money to upgrade, but I would still like a brighter screen (this realy is my only reson for not giving 5 stars).

Customer Review: It’s good when it works!
First unit worked well straight out of the box until it was connected to the computer to download the speed camera software. Not sure if it was this software, TomTom Home or it was just a faulty unit/ memory card but it did not want to work again afterwards. The big red cross of doom! I spent hours trying to phone TomTom customer service and don’t bother trying to email them either! After spending a while on their website trying to “find a solution to my problem” as they recommend - I couldn’t. Then spent ages trying to carefully write an email to explain all the errors and problems…clicked send…”your email needs a value” came the reply! What value? I included all the information they requested in all the areas provided. After trying at several different times of the day to call their customer service I gave up and returned the unit to Amazon for replacement. Fair play to Amazon as the replacement arrived next day! Again it works straight of the the box. The instructions are clear and the abaility to find the nearest hotel saved our bacon this weekend. No problems with the holder falling off the window screen and it’s easy to remove when you want to….a little short maybe.

Do I try again to connect it to a computer and download speed cameras?????
Customer Review: Superb
Bought this after trying a mates Tom Tom GO and liked it, so thought I`d treat myself. Bought this one because of the larger widescreen display and very pleased with it. I must admit I didnt use the suppied CD but downloaded the software from the TOM TOM site with no problem. Backed up the SD card on to the PC and downloaded `important` updates again without a problem. A common problem a lot of people seem to have is the windscreen mount, I dont know if its just the car I have but when on the windscreen, the bottom of the unit rests on the top of the dash making it very secure and vibration free. Navigation has been (so far) perfect, it will even tell you which lane to get in to when aproching a junction plus an abundence of other info like the nearest petrol station, resturant, cash machine, police station etc etc even down to the nearest dentist, well, you never know. Overall an excellent bit of kit.

Customer Review: Good Tool
I think some of the bad reviews are being a bit harsh. Remember SAT NAV is just a map like any other map, albeit electronic. If you are using a paper map which displays two-ways on a now one-way road, you use your judgment as an intelligent person and choose not to go down that road. From this you learn that obviously your map is out of date and likewise the maps in the TOM TOM can become out of date as streets change. Most people want to sit back and let the TOM TOM do the driving. If that is your attitude then of course you will be disappointed. Remember that this is a tool to make your journey and finding your way easier than always referring to a map. The benefits of this little device far outweigh the negatives.
Customer Review: great but
This is an invaluable piece of kit to anyone who travels a lot helps you avoid those painfull traffic jams as well. Two slight down sides one when travelling on the motorway its almost impossible to hold a telephone conversation as you cant hear what the caller is saying, although is fine on normal roads doing normal speeds. If the tom tom has been very heavily used occasionally one has to remove the card and reset the device. Iwould not want to be without my tom tom when travelling in or to unfamilar districts.

Customer Review: Third time unlucky
We are just about to take our THIRD Tom Tom 510 back this time for a refund. After moving to a new area and borrowing our friends 510 we decided to invest in one. The first one froze after 3 days leaving us with a white screen. We returned it for a replacement only for the 2nd one to freeze after a week after turning itself off. We took that one back for a refund but after looking around at the other Sat Navs on the market decided that we had perhaps just been unlucky and maybe it was the shop that had a bad batch (yeah right!). We went to a different shop to purchase one and for 8 months now have had no problems…until we could not turn the 510 on one day. After ringing Tom Tom I was asked if I had ever updated using Tom Tom Home (I had not but didn’t realise I had to!) so after being assured that this was the answer to all my problems I tried to update. And failed miserably!! Where does it say that you have to update using your PC for the Tom Tom to work? And why hasn’t it mended my Tom Tom?! I also tried to reboot it using the little whole at the back but this didn’t work either and why should I have to do this??!! Therefore the Tom Tom will be going back (thank goodness for the years warranty!!) and we will be trying another brand. I hasten to add that none of our Sat Navs came from Amazon but I wanted other users to heed my warning!!
Customer Review: My honest opinion.
I’ve had this particular version now, for about 3 months and would like to share my thoughts … 1st off - if you read other reviews you’ll hear a load of complaints, let me put my perspective on things; - Car mount cradle. So far I’ve had no real issues. It can be a bit fiddly to actually mount as you have to twist part of it to lock it into place, but I’ve done it a few times now and takes no more than about a minute. I’ve had no issues with its rigidity or the unit slipping at all and have been satisfied with it in every way. - Taking a while to lock on. Recently a quick-fix has become available which you can download through the TomTom Home application on your PC. I update this every few weeks or so and it’ll acquire a signal in a few seconds. 1 word of warning though (as with most GPS devices) using it inside of buildings / tunnels can mean a loss of signal. But if you’re using it for what it’s designed for, you’ll be fine in my opinion. - Screen brightness. I’ve only once had an issue trying to see the screen and that was on a very sunny day and it was shining right on the face of the unit. Can’t do much about that, but to be honest with it speaking the directions, you should be able to pretty much get about until you turn away and the sun shines elsewhere. My gripes; - I was hoping for a sat nav, which contained a list of the mobile sites as well and designated them as `hot spots’ or something, so I at least had an idea. Thankfully I’ve not been caught yet as I’m pretty sensible, but it’s a bit of a pain in my mind. I would like to say that the marketing literature says it’ll do it, so perhaps I’m missing a trick, but I can’t see where to turn this feature on (if it exists). - Speed Camera updates. You get a 1-month trial with the unit, thereafter you have to pay a yearly subscription - so be warned. Also, they really aren’t that up to date with any of the road work cameras you get all over the place now. Classic example is the road works on the M1 between junctions 31 and 32. It’s a 50 mph average trap and the cameras TomTom says are there have been moved further up or back and it’s a bit of mess. Overall a little disappointed with this aspect. - Bluetooth phone support. If it’s not on their list, expect problems. The amount of times I get it working for several journeys and then inexplicably it stops working I’d hate to think about. Usually means deleting it from the TomTom and then re-setting the connection up. Most frustrating. - Mapping. It’s a bit hit and miss again. My example is on the A1 when it meets the A1M right at the top of the M1. The road must have been changed well before I got my device as although the whole system looked new, you could tell it’d been there for a while. TomTom thinks you’re in a field for about 5 miles, which is quite annoying. Also, I was in Liverpool the other week and it told me to turn left at the top of a road, when it’d been closed to traffic turning in that direction. Again by the looks of the central reservation blocking me, it’d been there for a while. Also, the speed limits of roads can be a bit hit and miss. All in all, a pretty good unit with some flaws. Is it worth buying … if I had my time again I’d likely go with a Garmin or a Strabo, but I’m not rushing out to buy a new one, when I’ve got a good few years of use left in what is otherwise a pretty good product.

iPod 3 in 1 Charging & Data Kit - House Charger, Car Charger, USB Charger & Data Cable
Customer Review: A good charging kit
This works fine. I’ve had no problems. The wall plug is relatively small and light. When my ipod battery was low I plugged this in and I was instantly able to use the ipod again - but plugged in. It charges up quite quickly and is more convenient than plugging into the Mac every time. Maybe the extention cord could be longer but it is after all a lightweight and cheap product. Good value.

Customer Review: a basic 3 in 1 that does the job
a basic 3 in 1 charger for your ipod.

cheap, simple, easy, value for money.

although the p&p was ?4 when i bought it !

i leave the cig light adapter in the car, and the wire in my pocket / bag at all times.

have never had any problems in the car, or connecting to a pc. excellent stuff. not too good charing at the wall, sometimes takes a while to start charging which can be frustrating when your in a hurry.

the price, compared to the official ipod chargers, it is very very competitive.

the quality - well, for a person that likes his/her ipod on the move, it is lightweight, and durable. (I am extremely clumsy and it has survived my mits!)

i would recommend to all and sundry

why not 5 stars? because of the slight issues with the wall, but i do fine with the car / pc option

Customer Review: excellent machine provided all you want is music
At the time of writing this review there are 68 others already on here, but I thought I would tell you of my own experience with the ipod shuffle.

I go the gym and used to have a MP3 player - just a basic “memory stick” type that I plugged into my computer to recharge and I could drag & drop songs onto. Unfortunately it died so it was time to look for a new one. Now I was undecided whether to buy a basic model by a less well known company, or go for a leading name. It seems to me that if you’re prepared to go for a relatively unknown manufacturer you can get a basic mp3 player for half the price with twice the memory, but eventually after much deliberation I plumped for the apple ipod shuffle, swayed by a combination of the reputation of apple & (hopefully) a better build quality.

I have had it just over a week now and I think I have made the right decision.

Yes, there is no screen, but I knew that when I bought it. I know from my prior experience at the gym that I just tend to switch it on and let it play so I didn’t really need one. Also, I have a mobile phone that takes pictures, plays videos, games etc and I hardly use any of those features so I figured I wouldn’t need a screen to watch tiny videos on. The earphones are great - several reviwers say they fall out but I’ve used mine on the treadmill, rower, cross trainer, exercise bike and wave machine and they’ve stayed in throughout! I’ve got about 14 hours out of it before I had to recharge which is impressive, and although initially I missed the simplicity of the “drag & drop” method of my old mp3 player, its just a question of getting used to itunes and once you have it seems simple enough.

All in all, an excellent purchase and having never had any previous experience of apple or ipods I am very pleased with my purchase.
