Samsung DVD-HR753 - DVD Recorder 160Gb Hard Drive - With HDMI

Samsung DVD-HR753 - DVD Recorder 160Gb Hard Drive - With HDMI
Recordable formats: DVD-R/-RW, DVD-RAM and HDD.

Customer Review: Good apart from hdmi
This recorder was fine until I decided to use hdmi. Once I had bought the hdmi cale (not supplied) a few days after using/buying this product I noticed a huge problem. Syncing was well out between lips and sound. This only occurs when using the hdmi cable, which kind of defeats the purpose of paying the premium for having an hdmi connection. It was so bad it’s like watching a badly dubbed Chinese Karate film from the 80’s. Using the composite was fine, no sync problems whatsoever.

In general it was a decent recorder (I returned mine and bought a different brand) let down badly by the hdmi problem. Like I say it’s fine if you dont use this, but you are paying a premium for the advertised hdmi socket, and why bother paying this if you dont intend to use it?

My advice is to buy a different product. A firmware update id not fix the issue.

Pioneer DVR-540HX-S, 160GB HDD DVD Recorder - Silver
Used Price: ?296.99
Customer Review: Top DVD HDD Recorder
I bought the little brother DVR-440HX last year and so far it has been excellent. The Standard Play (SP) picture quality is very good and there’s not much point using the long play modes unless your’e trying to fit a whole series on the thing. The Disc Navigator is quite advanced and the editing facilites are good as you can edit out adverts prior to writing to DVD-R. Recording programmes is simple and you can easily set it to record the whole series from one programme. I have tried the Jukebox but it’s limited in what it tells you, but OK for set going and leave it, e.g. for a party. Minor niggle; doesn’t come with digital audio out. In summary I’m very happy with this and would recommend the DVR-440 or 540.
Customer Review: Super Pioneer
I bought my DVR-540HX-S last month, and so far it has performed perfectly. The picture quality in Standard Play (SP) mode is excellent - indistinguishable from my normal digital tv picture. I haven’t tried the XP (Super Fine quality) setting, or any of the Long Play, Extended Play, or Super Long Play formats - no need, as the hard disk offers a massive 70 hours recording time. The Disc Navigator, which shows all available recordings on either HDD or DVD depending on mode selected, is simple to use, and the Electronic Programme Guide is first class, making programme selection easy. I haven’t tried the Juke Box feature yet, but having looked at the instructions in the (somewhat cumbersome and unintelligible) Operating Manual, it doesn’t look worth the trouble. Only other minus point I’ve found - the trumpeted “Pause live TV” feature does not work with my television; it does say in the small print that not all TV’s support this feature, so I suppose my set is one of the ones that doesn’t. Not a problem. Overall, I’m absolutely delighted with the DVR-540HX-S, and would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone.

Panasonic DMR-EX75EB-S - DVD Recorder with 160GB Hard Disk - Freeview Tuner - and HDMI With 1080i Upscaling

Panasonic DMR-EX75EB-S - DVD Recorder with 160GB Hard Disk - Freeview Tuner - and HDMI With 1080i Upscaling
Customer Review: Over-rated and very annoying to use
This is my 5th dvd player having previously used 2 Pioneer DVD-Rs, a Mitsubishi Black Diamond and a Chinese generic brand. All the ratings and mags rave about Panasonics, but this machine has been disappointing. I use this side-by-side with a Pioneer DVD-R and am consistently unimpressedd.

The upscaled picture is not what I expected - I run DVDs through my old Pioneer using component cables and it is better than the Panasonic though the HDMI.

The on-screen menus are horrible - very hard to follow and not intuitive at all. It takes forever to do anything like editing a recording, or trying to record from HDD to DVD. The Pioneer is much clearer and easier to use - a real delight of sensible design.

The controller is also awful - very clunky and stiff. Buttons often do not respond until they have been depressed firmly for the 10th time. It takes ages to do anything using the controller as it is so poor. It is also very badly set out and requires constant reference to the guide book to know what to do.

It is also unattractive to look at, though this is a minor point, but is consistent with the poor design throughout.

Customer Review: Remember playback
I love many features on this recorder the hard drive is brill, I have a few problems though but a no one has mentioned them so am not sure if it is just me not able to find them.

This machine always starts a DVD from the beginning it does not remember where I was up to some machines remember the last 20 DVDs that were played so when you put them in it starts where you left off and gives you the option to go to the start if you wanted to.

I can’t find how to turn on the VPS/PDC,

I find the manual not very good not as good as the recorder.

Customer Review: I bought two
I love these HDD/DVD recorders. With a huge hard disk, I just set the weeks recording on Saturday morning and then can forget it. The interface is not as intuitive as my previous Toshiba (you can’t combine recordings into one file or make copies onto the hard disk from the hard disk) so loses a star.
Customer Review: Whoever invented this wonderful machine is a genious!!
I purchased this machine as an upgrade to my DVD recorder. I wanted a hard drive with a lot of memory so I could record things when I am away from home. I am not dissapointed in any way with this! It’s so easy to use & u can record over 400hrs worth of progs!! The great function is ’synchro record’, which allows you to record with ease. This is great if you have Sky or Cable, because all you need to do is select all your progs in your tv guide to autoview and switch your box to standby-and the machine will do the rest! It records when your digibox activates a signal and there is no need to set your timer ever again! Easy!

Pioneer RCSLX60D 1080p Premium Home Cinema System with DVD/250GB Hard Disk Recorder
in Black
Customer Review: Good value, all rounder with some very minor snags
The Pioneer RCS LX60D is a good choice if you want an all-rounder which doesn’t necessarily excel in any particular area, but it won’t break the bank either. There’s loads of features which you can read on the pioneer website, but not many user reviews so I’m going to concentrate on stuff I’d like to have known when I bought it. The system is basically three components - the Pioneer DVRLX60D (can be purchased separately) and a multi channel receiver/subwoofer (SX-LX60D) and speaker system (SSP LX60D) which can’t be bought separately. Set up was a bit fiddly with the speaker system comprising 6 cube speakers (Front L, Front R, Centre x2, Rear L, Rear R) which can be positioned in traditional surround around the room or fastened together with the supplied brackets as front surround. Pioneer recommend the front surround, avoiding the need to hide wires and perch speakers around the living room, so that’s what I went for. There’s a few miles of speaker cabling to hide behind the unit, although you are provided a tiny little bit of spiral wrap to get you started on cable management… The subwoofer doubles as the digital audio receiver/processor and there’s a separate lcd display unit (it’s the thing sitting on the HD/DVD in the picture) which is connected to the subwoofer by a 1.5 m cable. I put mine under my Panasonic 32LXD700 and it goes nicely. Once the speakers are set up you can set the EQ, channel balance and optimum surround setting with Pioneers MCACC, and the supplied mic. This works really well in my living room, which is a rectangular shape (TV in the corner) and has patio doors/fire surround/curtains either side - in other words plenty of accoustic variables. The front surround is accurate and sounds excellent at low volume as well as high, with the specific Quiet & Midnight settings on the receiver which alter the balance. You can adjust all the settings manually if you need to. There’s a range of audio settings which you can try, but I have always come back to the auto feature which selects the best output depending on whether you are listening to music on the AM-FM radio, a cd or watching a film with DTS, Dolby digital/prologic ii. Connected with HDMI, the upscaled 1080p picture quality on my TV was spectacular, as expected. Not much more to say - it’s up there with the Sony RDRHXD970 and Panasonic DMR-EX87 both with 1080p up-conversion for standard DVDs, although the Panasonic might have been a better choice for the ease of use with Viera link, this system has a host of extras which I thought it worth spending another ?300 on, including the surround system and connectability. This system has 2 remotes - one for the receiver and another for the HDD/DVD (but both have a flip-down bit with some common controls for both). This was a bit annoying and another mark against the system. There’s an analogue and freeview DVB tuner, and a CA slot for paychannels. A dual dvb tuner would have been nice, but I haven’t seen any systems with this spec and 2 tuners. The Gem Guide EPG is good, easy to use, although it does not show the digital radio channels and takes a while to set up (downloading from the analogue tuner ITV channel). If you have a Sky box or external cable system, you can upload the channels to the EPG on the HDD/DVD recorder via a G-Link infra red link. You can then control the recording of your external devices connected to the DVD recorder. The on screen display is simple and easy to use, record programmes or edit from the menu. The blurb says you can save your whole CD collection on the 250GB hard drive - but only if you have 999 tracks. This is a bit disappointing, as the sound quality of the surround system when playing back MP3s (or WMAs only without DRM!!) and CDs is very good. I would have liked to upload a few more tracks onto the HDD - although I can connect my MP3 player either via the optical or analogue audio or there’s a USB link. You can also only see 999 tracks at a time from a PC or MP3 player (hard drive or flash). You CAN get a pre-converted Multiregion version of this system - it’s worth checking other websites . Finally, if you can get this system for under ?700, you are not going to be disappointed with the quality. This is easily the best sounding complete HD/DVD/Surround system I have tried and that more than makes up for the minor niggles mentioned above.

Customer Review: NOT UP TO GRUNDIG STANDARDS
FIRSTLY THIS SET HAS A VERY LIMITED VIEWING ANGLE IF YOU ARE NOT RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE SCREEN THE PICTURE DISAPPEARS WITHIN A FEW FEET {I PUT MINE UP ON THE BEDROOM WALL WITH A FIXED WALL BRACKET THEN I THOUGHT I WOULD LIE ON THE BED TO WATCH THE FOOTBALL. NO CHANCE WHEN I LAY DOWN I COULDNT SEE THE PICTURE SO NOW I WILL HAVE TO PURCHASE A BRACKET THAT TILTS AND SWIVELS

ONE OTHER FAILING IS THAT THE EPG GUIDE ONLY DISPLAYS ONE CHANNEL AT A TIME NOT LIKE OTHER ONES THAT DISPLAY ALL THE CHANNELS HOWEVER I HAVE BOUGHT IT AND I AM STUCK WITH IT BUT MY ADVICE TO WOULDBE PURCHASERS IS TO LOOK AT THE DAEWOO MODEL WITH THE SAME SPEC AS THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE PURCHASED IT SEEM QUITE HAPPY WITH IT

HOPE THIS HELPS

Customer Review: Had to take this TV back
We bought it from Comet and the picture was poor - dull colours and poor definition. The Freeview channel information was almost unreadable from any kind of distance. For ?320 we expected better. So we went for the slightly bigger (20″) and more expensive (?365 from Amazon, ?385 from Comet click and collect) Sony Bravia KDL 20S2030, which we are very happy with.

Sanyo Personal MP3 Player
Amazon Price: ?29.90
Customer Review: Great for the price, Under ?30.00
Read the other reviews on this MP3 and though what the hell give it a try. For thirty pounds you cant go wrong it better than my wifes sony MP3 which cost her over ?100. Also the headphone have a great deep base sound to them.
Customer Review: Handy Sanyo Mp3 Player DMP-M400SD
I bought this partly having read the previous reviewers helpful comments with which I agree. Overall plasticky feel belies more robust build than first looks suggest; also well finished and thought out. Lots of features for the money and refreshingly different too. Initially bought as a cheap ‘in car’ music source when used with an Mp3 transmitter thro’ the car audio. Now enjoyed around the home too. Being so small and light it slips unobtrusively into my shirt pocket. The ‘joystick’ button can seem a bit ‘iffy’ but improves with familiarity. I use rechargeable AAA Ni-cads that seem to work well despite only disposable Alkaline cells being recommended in the manual. Generous features and info. available on the orange backlit screen include many Settings. The handy radio works well too. The sound quality is good and even better through more costly ‘phones. Some functions respond a tad slowly - but so do I! Cannot help feel that this Sanyo player will soon be replaced due to its unfashionable design and horrible unattractive packaging. As of 19/6/07 it seems a good ‘offer’ from an Amazon seller at ?25 inc. 2Gb SD card. But beware, one online outlet is selling at ?80+, way over the suggested price. I’ve quickly grown to like this small, quirky, practical little player.

ATMT N-Lite MP140 1GB MP3 Player with DRM10 - Black
Amazon Price: ?24.99
Customer Review: ATMT-N LITE 1GB
It performs OK but it is a bit quiet. There are no sort facilities and it displays by title, although not in alphabetical order(I don’t know what criteria it uses in sorts). You can’t display by Artist or Album. All in all, not bad but too lacking in facilities to recommend it.
Customer Review: The perfect first MP3 Player
After much humming and haring I decided to take the plunge and bought this player to dip my toe in the water. I only need it for the gym and after seven 1+ hour gym sessions the single AAA battery is still working fine. Whilst not as pleasing on the eye as an iPod it does the job. I had to replace the headphones with a better set I already had and that is the only reason I do not give this a 5 star rating. Having never heard music through a more expensive player I can not comment on the quality of the music but I have no complaints.

Aigo F529 - 1GB MP3 player & Omnisphere Speaker system
Customer Review: Good but not THAT great
I would have never thought that finding an MP3 player with memory/speakers integrated would be so hard. In fact, it looks like AIGO were the only ones to think about it. Personally, I didn’t buy it because it looked cool but because I wanted to listen to my MP3 music. For that reason, I’ll have to be less enthusiastic about the F529 then the other customers. The F529 is a nice little gadget, that’s true but the lack of control bothers me: there is no screen, no way to set up a playlist, no remote-control, no equalizer. This MP3 player could have been great. It’s just good.I wish AIGO had spent a little less time on the colour lights and a little more on practical details.
Customer Review: Brilliant!
I was lucky enough to buy one of these 1GB models for under ?20 from another supplier. However, I can highly recommend it. In fact, I think it’s truly amazing for its size. Everyone who has seen and heard it have wanted one. Most people who hear it from another room believe it is a proper stereo system. Buy one and you won’t be disappointed!!

Creative Zen Micro 6GB MP3 Player - White

Used Price: ?49.99
Customer Review: DO NOT BUY
Seriousley, these are good players if they dont go wrong, however many do. Creative clearly employ monkeys to make these things. My player started having problems after 2 months with turning on, then after a year its started saying “firnware problem”. Wouldnt load or turn on. After researchiung forums on the net found this is common problem that creative cant fix, couldnt download firmware updates and tried many of the convoluted suggestions people had posted in forums. CREATIVE SUPPORT ARE RUBBISH and just ignore you or give u bad advise. My player is now defunct and i am going to buy an Iriver or Ipod. So Beware if they work then ok but be prepared for them to stop working.
Customer Review: Dated now but it still works!
I have this great little player for years now. I can identify with the hassles another reviewer had with Vista as I have upgraded to Vista on all the home PC’s. You will need to update to latest firmware for the player on a Windows XP machine. You can then just drag and drop files and folders. I have only given four stars as I would not buy it now due to the above and for the fact there is a better player on the market namely the new Zen 4,6 or 8 gb. See it in Amazon. I shan’t be buying a new one yet because my little micro just keeps on going nearly three years after a I bought it. Yes its dated and does not show album art but it does the job. For the prices being asked for it now it’s a bargain I paid ?150 for mine, suppose thats the penalty for buying new

Klipsch iGroove SXT - iPod Docking Speaker Sound System
Customer Review: Superb ipod speakers and dock!
Excellent sound, build and value! If you have an ipod and are looking for a well designed unit, look no further.

Don’t let the minimal functions on the remote put you off, Klipsch have placed the focus on true audiophile sound quality at a remarkable price, half that of the Bose and in my opinion better sound.

The footprint is really small, only as high as an ipod classic and about 300mm wide with black cloth speaker covers rather than cheap plastic.

Go for it, you will not regret it.

Customer Review: Great piece of kit !
The Klipsch iGroove SXT is fast establishing a great reputation and well deserved.I pondered for ages as to whether or not to buy the SXT or the larger iGroove. In the end the smaller and newer SXT won and I’ve never had it turned off ! The sound is truly amazing for such a small unit and is very smooth and easy to listen to - and, there’s plenty of it for most living rooms. Its smaller size (4″ on length) does not compromise the sound quality and 1/4 inch less on tweeter dia.gives a freq. reponse up to 20 kHz (17kHz for the HG with 1″ tweeters). Crossover frequency is 6kHz compared to 2.9kHz on the HG and the bass is punchy enough for my ears ! Styling is beautiful with black cloth and silver trim.

I initially had some concern as to whether it would accept my first generation nano but an E-Mail to Promedia (Klipsch Web Site) was quickly answered advising that Dock Insert No 8 would be fine. In fact when the unit arrived it had nine various dock inserts provided.

I am very happy with the unit and I am sure anyone contemplating purchase of the SXT can’t go wrong especially at the price offered.

Belkin iPod Nano 3G Acrylic Case - Clear

Black iPod Nano - 3 Pin Mains Charger Customer Review: Excellent buy this charger now
This was better than I expected and absolute bargain and works a treat on the 80G Apple ipod - don’t waste your money on an expensive Apple product. Very quick delivery from the seller (3 days) and good communications.
Customer Review: Does it what it says on the tin
Bought one of these before Christmas for my new 3rd gen iPod Nano - I went with all_mobile_stuff who answered my questions before purchasing, and even changed my order to a white charger on request, after the order had been placed!
I had a different brand with another iPod Nano, from a high street store as part of a bundle deal - and it didn’t work! Get this instead.

Belkin iPod Nano 3G Acrylic Case - Clear
IPOD NANO 3G CLEAR PC CASE W/ DISPLAYPROTECT

Customer Review: Solid Little Case
Excellent. Solid clear plastic case which covers the entire nano (except for a slit at the bottom for the headphone socket, docking port and lock button). The case completely covers the screen and also covers the click-wheel (which can still be operated through the thinner plastic). It comes in two halves which click together and never need to be removed again. I always preferred the soft silicon cases until my son bought this. Recommended.

The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is that it does add a little bulk to an otherwise tiny ipod - still, better than getting it scratched.

I bought mine from Currys in town - Don’t forget that if you buy from these Marketplace sellers you’ll be paying another ?5.00ish for postage.

Customer Review: Good but limited controls
I wsa very pleased with the results I got from this straight away. Plugged it in after installing the driver first (always the best thing to do with USB devices). Fired up the Instant DVD recorder, dropped my old VCR tapes onto disk with no problems. I burn via other software after edting so can’t comment on the stability or otherwise of the burning side of the software. The only thing that let’s it down for me, is the lack of ability to specify given formats, such as 352X576, 352×288 or 576×720. The “good, better, best” option isn’t very helpful and I find that a 3 hour tape needs to be split between 2 DVD’s. Used with DVD Shrink, I can fit the data, but I do lose quality of course. At full quality, I’m more than happy with the results and ease of use. Only that lack of decent control over capture quality stops me from giving it 5 stars.
Customer Review: Rubbish - wish I hadn’t bought it.
The hardware to get the video onto your computer works fine, no problems with that. The software, however, is a total load of rubbish. It constantly crashes and malfunctions - the resulting DVD won’t even play. To top it all, it crashed again and I lost the whole project that I’d spent a whole day working on. I am now using different software which works well. I would not recommend this product unless you already have some good video editing software.

Daewoo DF4150 Multi-region Capable DVD Recorder +RW & VCR Combination with MP3 and JP

Daewoo DF4150 Multi-region Capable DVD Recorder +RW & VCR Combination with MP3 and JP
A friendly menu system with graphical element, 6 hours recording, Video Plus +, NTSC playback on PAL TV, 430 x 91 x 354

Customer Review: Your Cookoo to buy Daewoo!
The Daewoo DF4150 despite very little use broke beyond repair just 14 months after purchase! The DVD refusing to function at all beyond the opening and closing of the disc drawer. During the 14 months I used the machine I found the creation of DVD chapters/menus very difficult the procedure being non-logical at best. The menu screens created looked very basic and amateurish. The instruction manual was poorly written and of little help. The picture quality from VHS tape recorded onto DVD was average to poor, this I suspect being due to the poor quality of the VHS components i.e. tape heads etc. Their was also a great deal of excessive on screen noise on the play back of VHS tapes. This Daewoo has had its day!

Customer Review: Daewoo DF4150 Sucks
I have read all the review on this lemon and can agree with most comments, good when it wanted to work but bad when it did’nt. It stopped recording on DVD and even eraused discs after recording, takes an age to start up,i have to press start walk away for 10 mins press off, then play and 30 secs later it should come on.Sent the machine to only authorised repair dealers in Cornwall to be told it would cost about ?200 to have a new chip board or something like that, basicly useless. Now only good enough as grainy VHS recorder or DVD player not what i got it for. Oh and the repair shop said Daewoo knew about these faults with the software but are prepared to do diddly, THANKS Daewoo and -V- who i bought it from.

Customer Review: Very Impressed
Thought long and hard about replacing our DVD player, VCR and Freeview box as they all worked perfectly - if it ain’t broken don’t fix it, but after getting a HDD TV we are so pleased with the Panasonic. Picture quality is superb with upscalling through HDMI, it was easy to install and simple to use and without all the old kit we have installed 2 extra storage shelves into our TV cupboard. Love the facility where you can start recording a program and start watching it before it has finished recording, also watching another recording whilst recording another. The unit is quiet when in use. Would highly recommend this to anyone. Why didn’t we change earlier?
Customer Review: Perfect recorder
The picture quality of this recorder is what distinguishes it from the competition. The on-screen menus maybe aren’t perfect or even as good as on a Sony player, but anyone who appreciates great image and sound quality shouldn’t look any further than this Pana.

Customer Review: Leave well alone
Had two of these. First one died after three weeks - it just powered itself off and never came back. The second one was pretty much DOA - displayed ‘Starting…’ but never started. Apart from that, it was easy enough to set up, but the user interface was not intuitive and the remote control response time was painfully slow.
Customer Review: ONE BOX TO FIND THEM, ONE BOX TO BIND THEM & IN THE FRONT ROOM USE THEM
I think this unit is good. I’m a confirmed Apple Mac user and had considered just putting another Mac in the front room with a DVB Tuner card in it. I might still do this, but for different reasons now. The rest of the family don’t embrace all the new technology and this is a BETTER DOMESTIC type solution. I like them so much, I bought 3 - but please note, I have a self interest as I’m now selling the other two units on here at a special price. I do like these unit though and even at full price would recommend. The dual tuner is useful in areas not yet getting a full digital service. It seems to play anything I put in it from my collection. Bags of Hard Drive space, yielding plenty of digital recording time. As a Apple Mac user I like my kit to look good and this meets that criteria as well.
