Customer Review: Samsung 4GB YP-Z5
HI PLEASE HELP I BROUGHT THIS SAMSUNG FOR MY DAD FOR HIS BIRTHDAY. ANYWAY THE POINT IS WE HAVE NO TROUBLE GETTING SONGS FROM PC TO SAMSUNG JUST DELETE THE SONGS HE DOS’NT WON’T. CAN ANYONE HELP?
Customer Review: Unfortuately it’ll have to be an ipod!!
I bought this on the strength of some good reviews here on Amazon. However, my advice is now the same as many other buyers - don’t bother. The unit freezes after being charged and you have to hit the reset button. Battery life is not great and for some reason, it stores songs in alphabetical order not in album order. Sound quality is not brilliant. Since purchasing this, I reluctantly gave in and bought an ipod nano. I have to admit that the ipod is just in a different class. Given the problems we all have with Windows, it will probably be an Mac next.

Customer Review: A brilliant player - no problems at all!
The design is brilliant and when the wheel glows blue the player looks great. The buttons are quite close to the wheel but you get used to the controls pretty quickly. The screen quality is very good and videos and pictures are really clear on it. There is a memory card slot so the player can get another 2GB of memory for around ?16 by buying a microSD card, but I have fitted all my songs on easily and only used just over 1GB. The FM Radio is very useful and works 100%, infact I haven’t found any problems with the player, even the volume I was worried about is perfect and even has a louder setting you can use which makes music really loud! I would definately purchase this player if you do not want to pay loads for a nano because its small, better value for money and sounds better (when you purchase new headphones as the ones you get are ok but not brilliant, so I would recommend the Philips SBCHE590 headphones which sound amazing with this player)For ?47 this was a great purchase!

Creative Muvo T100 2GB MP3 Player
Amazon Price: ?19.99
Customer Review: Don’t buy
What a piece of rubbish. What’s the point of selling an MP3 player that has no display?! I made a mistake buying this so don’t you do the same. I can’t believe this was not mentioned. Also the lanyard attaches to the removable cap-genius! So you will probably lose it if you wear it round your neck.

Creative Zen Micro 6GB MP3 Player - Dark Blue
Used Price: ?47.99
Customer Review: DO NOT BUY
Seriousley, these are good players if they dont go wrong, however many do. Creative clearly employ monkeys to make these things. My player started having problems after 2 months with turning on, then after a year its started saying “firnware problem”. Wouldnt load or turn on. After researchiung forums on the net found this is common problem that creative cant fix, couldnt download firmware updates and tried many of the convoluted suggestions people had posted in forums. CREATIVE SUPPORT ARE RUBBISH and just ignore you or give u bad advise. My player is now defunct and i am going to buy an Iriver or Ipod. So Beware if they work then ok but be prepared for them to stop working.
Customer Review: Dated now but it still works!
I have this great little player for years now. I can identify with the hassles another reviewer had with Vista as I have upgraded to Vista on all the home PC’s. You will need to update to latest firmware for the player on a Windows XP machine. You can then just drag and drop files and folders. I have only given four stars as I would not buy it now due to the above and for the fact there is a better player on the market namely the new Zen 4,6 or 8 gb. See it in Amazon. I shan’t be buying a new one yet because my little micro just keeps on going nearly three years after a I bought it. Yes its dated and does not show album art but it does the job. For the prices being asked for it now it’s a bargain I paid ?150 for mine, suppose thats the penalty for buying new

Samsung DVD Recorder
Amazon Price: ?103.89
Customer Review: Great machine
Initially I bought a HDD dvd recorder (not Samsung) to replace my old Samsung model. After endless trouble trying to set up I shipped it back and bought this, the updated version of my old dvd. No set up problems with this. Easy to use and much quicker to load and process the discs. It’s quieter as well. If you don’t need a dvd with a hard drive, and on reflection, I don’t think I did! Then this piece of hardware comes highly recommended, and with a great price tag!
Customer Review: Decent budget DVD recorder
I bought this DVD recorder primarily for its HDMI connection and it’s upscaling capabilities. (I have a Liteon 5006 DVD recorder which still works fine but has no HDMI - for my Sony HD ready TV). Firstly my gripes; I’m struggling to notice any difference between normal and upscaled pictures. On some upscaled DVD’s i’ve also noticed some digital lines at the edge of the picture. Whilst 1 and 2 hour recordings are spot on - the 4hr long play has proven unwatchable in most cases - with images starting blocky with fast moving action - and then sharpening up when the action dies down. (The Liteon 3hr recordings - whilst grainy - are always watchable) Shame Samsung didn’t include a 3hr recording option which usually fits most British TV series on and longer films. It has a flexible recording mode - but all this appears to do is change to different recording modes depending on space left on dvd. ie. don’t expect 2hr 15mins recordings to be near 2hr quality - they are recorded in 4hr Long Play The Samsung does support dual layer disks - i’ve used Datawrites +R discs - but these are write once only - and are twice the price of +/-RW disks. (I struggled to see if this can be made Multi region through the remote - bought mine elsewhere where it was chipped.) Now the good; The operation of the player is relatively quiet and a massive improvement on my noisy Liteon It is inexpensive With it being super format - most PC’s will be able to read the disks making copying, editing and the like easier (My Liteon recorded +RW disks will not play on my PC - but the Samsung +RW ones play perfectly) The Samsung has a number of editing functions - which differ depending on disk type - but with +RW you can insert chapters manually and then hide them during playback (so it skips adverts etc) All in all this is a decent recorder for the price - which attempts a lot of things - and does them OK. Look elsewhere - and perhaps upping your budget for better HD upscaling

Customer Review: pathetic
I rang this retailer up abou this product and the staff were very un professional and also hung up on me as they were unable to answer my comments i would recommend NOT to buy any products from this supplier as if this is the way they treat customers before they buy god help us if we folk out money then this behaviour occurs.
Customer Review: 6 months then bang
I purchased the Panasonic recorder because it had good reviews and also did all the things I wanted - play DVDs’ ,record plus freeview all in one neat box. But all I had is trouble. From the start the machine would not keep any preferences when it is turned off, so it has to remain on all the time unless the machine decided to turn it self off - for a self check - which it does, often. Now 7 months since purchase it no longer records or plays any disk! DO NOT BUY THIS MACHINE - YOU WILL WASTE YOUR MONEY!

Customer Review: Great set
I have had the TV for about 3 weeks. It already feels like a member of the family! The picture quality is great. Sound quality is fine, though the bass does boom with some inputs.

My only real complaintis the menu lag. There is no shortcut for scrolling through the sources you plug into it - instead you will have to click the source button 6 times to get to the DVD player in the sixth slot etc. This gets tiresome really quickly.

The only other caution is that you’ll find that once you upgrade from an old style CRT tube television to a hi-def LCD, you suddenly want to plug other HD stuff into it. It really brings out the flaws in an ordinary DVD, or even the Wii which looked better on a CRT.

This leads to a need for PS3 with Blu-Ray, a surround sound amp & speakers, and, crucially, good wiring. But then again, this is the curse of upgrading any of your kit!

Happy viewing. For the money this set is excellent.

Customer Review: A chance to dispell some HDTV myths and wives tales
This isnt going to be a complete and exhaustive review for this set as I havent yet had the time to go into any sort of testing process with the set I have just bought (literally just hours ago). However, in just these few hours I have managed to completely dispell some of the myths surrounding HDTV and this tv is particular and confirm some others. Here they are:

1) Will my ps2/xbox/gamecube look rubbish on this screen

Answ: Depends on what you consider rubbish and also what game you put in. Some games, like FIFA 08 that dont seem to offer progressive output and so the display doesnt look great. Its like playing a pc game in 800×600 on a native 1440×900 pc display - its the same kinda thing. However, games like resident evil 4, gran turismo, WRC rally evolved and toca 3 look either improved or just slightly less good than standard tv. I have my ps2 connected with the component cables, dont connect through composite! The picture is truly bad!

2) Is the menu and channel response time slow?

Answ: Not really and yes, channels can take 3 to 4 seconds to change on the inbuilt freeview, the menu system is a little unresponsive but taking no more than a second to do anything. It just seems a little laggy but can be forgiven as its very user friendly and looks good.

3) Can I use another set-top box for freeview on this tv?

Answ: Yes! You dont have to put up with the laggy inbuilt one on this. Plug another set top box in through the scart and just select the scart input from the connections menu. You could even have 2 set top boxes plugged in if you really wanted! Oh one thing to note with the freeview on this tv, it didnt find that many channels for me whereas my set top box found 4 times as many. Dont know whether the sensitivity is lacking.

4)Is the sound really that bad?

Answ: No not at all. I havent even turned it up to maximum yet but on about 60% it is loud enough for the neighbours next door to here through the wall (on a quiet day). Assuming just background noise in your house, 35% or above will be enough. The speakers seem to be fine, no distortion, not absolutely amazing but thats to be expected! But as good as any other tv speakers, if not a bit better.

5)Is the picture quality good?

Answ: A distinct improvement from CRT tvs in standard resolution (i.e. freeview) with a cleaner image and better refresh rate. I havent tried HD yet but I imagine it will be fantastic.

A good bonus about this tv is its picture in picture. You can play your games and have the tv on in the corner too so if you are waiting for something to comoe on, you know when its about to begin, Handy!

No complaints about this tv so far. 5/5 stars no problem!

Ellion 530S Slimline Dual Format Multi-region Capable DVD Recorder with iLink

Ellion 530S Slimline Dual Format Multi-region Capable DVD Recorder with iLink
Customer Review: DO NOT BUY!!!!
I bought this a while ago, the first one I got didn’t even switch on so they replaced it. The second one worked ok for about 5 months and I have nothing but trouble with it since….it only records when and if IT feels like it - it has no consistancy it reads a disk fine one time and then put the same disk in 2 mins later and it says disk is not compatable! It’s a very expensive DVD PLAYER NOT RECORDER unless you only want it for 5 months. Please save your money a buy a decent one - that’s what I’ve had to do!!!

Customer Review: Ellion - no product support
I bought a similar DVD recorder made by Ellion and after about 18 months the power supply failed, I have seen other comments on the web with similar faults. Also another niggle was the clock would not keep correct time and had to be reset constantly. I have emailed Ellion for some advice but I am still waiting…… My advice - think very very carefully before you buy one of their products, I will not be buying again!!

Sony RDR-GX120 Dual Format / Dual Layer DVD Recorder
DVD+R/+RW, +R double layer disc recording.
Customer Review: You get what you pay for…
I was looking for a decent quality DVD recorder to back up my sky + box. This is it. It was with fear and trepidation I went to the back of the TV, but set up was a breeze. It does exactly what I want. I don’t need a freeview tuner I don’t need multi format recording I don’t need instant start up I don’t mind it taking time to turn on I don’t want all the bells and whistles So, I have not paid for them. What I have got is an easy to use system to back up my Sky +. Result.
Customer Review: Cheap but flawed product
Similar story here as others who have been disappointed by this unit. Bought a Sony Bravia (from John Lewis) and it came bundled with this DVD recorder. The lack of in-built digital tuner is infuriating as, even when you do figure out how to record digital signals from the TV, you can’t record a digital channel and watch another. The only time you can record one channel and watch another is when recording using the in-built analogue tuner (so just the old 5 analogue channels) and watch another channel on the TV’s digital tuner. For those confused about recording digital shows from the Sony Bravia TV to the RDR-GX120, you connect from AV2 on the Bravia to AV1 (I think it’s that one) on the RDR-GX120. Then when recording, tell the RDR-GX120 to use L1 as the source. To select the digital channel simply use the normal TV guide via the Bravia remote (can initiate timer recordings this way) or the prog up/down buttons on the DVDR remote and select the show to tape. It squirts the signal out via AV2 to the RDR-GX120. It’s not intuitive but once you’ve done it a few times you’ll remember. It’s potentially a great system but falls down flat by preventing you from changing channel. You have to record what you watch, when usually you’ll want to record a show and watch something else. Oh, and when timer recording a digital channel the TV must be switched ON. That means either leaving the TV on all night when recording things late night / when you’re away from home or else delving into the manual to suss out the TV’s on/off timer options. Unless you have an additional Freeview box you can hook up somehow, you’ll soon be pretty fed up with the limitations and flaws of this DVD recorder. As others have mentioned, it can be infuriatingly slow to access discs. Browsing and renaming recorded titles on a DVDRW disc is woefully slow. I fail to understand why it takes so long to translate my button presses to action on-screen. The Bravia’s on-screen menus are really nippy and responsive, the juxtaposition damning the RDR-GX120 all the more. In its favour, I was able to make the unit multi-region with a remote hack. This didn’t go particularly smoothly but was eventually successful and I can now throw in any Region disc without thought and it’ll play fine. It’s not enough to justify purchasing this product though. ?150 or so can get you a DVD recorder from another manufacturer that features a Freeview tuner, DVD-RAM support, plus DVD upscaling to 1080p and HDMI output for those wanting to benefit from their HDTVs. Don’t even consider this product.
