Samsung Super Multi Format DVD Recorder With HDMI DVD-R155/XEU

Samsung Super Multi Format DVD Recorder With HDMI DVD-R155/XEU
Samsung DVD Recorder

Customer Review: Great machine
Initially I bought a HDD dvd recorder (not Samsung) to replace my old Samsung model.

After endless trouble trying to set up I shipped it back and bought this, the updated version of my old dvd. No set up problems with this. Easy to use and much quicker to load and process the discs.

It’s quieter as well.

If you don’t need a dvd with a hard drive, and on reflection, I don’t think I did! Then this piece of hardware comes highly recommended, and with a great price tag!

Customer Review: Decent budget DVD recorder
I bought this DVD recorder primarily for its HDMI connection and it’s upscaling capabilities. (I have a Liteon 5006 DVD recorder which still works fine but has no HDMI - for my Sony HD ready TV).

Firstly my gripes;

I’m struggling to notice any difference between normal and upscaled pictures.

On some upscaled DVD’s i’ve also noticed some digital lines at the edge of the picture.

Whilst 1 and 2 hour recordings are spot on - the 4hr long play has proven unwatchable in most cases - with images starting blocky with fast moving action - and then sharpening up when the action dies down.

(The Liteon 3hr recordings - whilst grainy - are always watchable)

Shame Samsung didn’t include a 3hr recording option which usually fits most British TV series on and longer films.

It has a flexible recording mode - but all this appears to do is change to different recording modes depending on space left on dvd. ie. don’t expect 2hr 15mins recordings to be near 2hr quality - they are recorded in 4hr Long Play

The Samsung does support dual layer disks - i’ve used Datawrites +R discs - but these are write once only - and are twice the price of +/-RW disks.

(I struggled to see if this can be made Multi region through the remote - bought mine elsewhere where it was chipped.)

Now the good;

The operation of the player is relatively quiet and a massive improvement on my noisy Liteon

It is inexpensive

With it being super format - most PC’s will be able to read the disks making copying, editing and the like easier

(My Liteon recorded +RW disks will not play on my PC - but the Samsung +RW ones play perfectly)

The Samsung has a number of editing functions - which differ depending on disk type - but with +RW you can insert chapters manually and then hide them during playback (so it skips adverts etc)

All in all this is a decent recorder for the price - which attempts a lot of things - and does them OK.

Look elsewhere - and perhaps upping your budget for better HD upscaling

Any one know of a multi region hack for this. It ia fantastic - if only it played multi region
Customer Review: Superb Sony
This is a stonking good DVD recorder. The menu and simple timer/setup controls are a joy to use. The Sony RDRGX350B looks sleek and stylish and delivers high quality recordings at many speeds - it can record up to 10 hours on a standard disk!! The machine plays and records most if not all DVD formats and has special modes to record 3 hours on a disk (to record that special 3hr film at best quality). The menu was easy to operate and had an Undo in case you made a mistake. Having used previous DVD recorders this one stands out and the remote is very light and has great range. At under ?100 this is a bargain. Sony quality without the price.

Philips 26PFL7532D - 26″ Widescreen HD Ready LCD TV - With Pixel Plus & Freeview

Philips 26PFL7532D - 26″ Widescreen HD Ready LCD TV - With Pixel Plus & Freeview
With this TV you can now enjoy the benefits of digital TV, Electronic Programme Guide and digital quality content. At the same time, you can also watch superb pictures with Pixel Plus HD clarity and details.

Customer Review: Hmmm……
Having had this TV a few days here are my thoughts on it.

The picture is bright and bold - though skin tones rarely look natural.

On watching movies in a dimly lit room the gloss black case only goes to show that “black” on the picture isn’t quite as black as it should be. Looking even slightly at an angle to the screen this gets worse. Having compared with a few others maybe this is just a feature of LCDs - I’m not sure this one is that much better or worse than similar offerings.

The bit that really offends my eye however is there is something very odd going on when things move….whilst you can notice it on normal pictures as moving picture being a bit “blurry” perhaps the proof is on titles which over a certain speed become absolutely illegible (considerably more so than the same material on my old TV and on both analogue and digital signals).

So in summary….I’m not glad I bought it.

———

Having submitted my initial review it’s developed a fault (horizontal wobbles on all inputs), and I have returned it.

Customer Review: Worth the extra ?20-?40 !!!!
Bought this TV for ?208, others were selling it for between ?220-?260ish. But I’d say its worth paying up to ?250ish, which is about ?20-?40 more than other makes such as Samsung/Toshiba etc… anyway for the quality of the sound and picture on such a small TV its great quality. The picture is flawless and the sound is rich considering the small size of the TV. Very easy to set uP - Less than 5 minutes!!! A great TV, always worth going for a Sony. You get what you pay for. Don’t be tempted by cheaper (inferior) alternatives.
Customer Review: Check This Out ! - Get One For Nothing At All ! - Check This Out ! (B)(B)(C) Approved!

TomTom - External Antenna for TomTom One & GO 510/710/910

TomTom - External Antenna for TomTom One & GO 510/710/910
Ensures optimal GPS reception for your ONE: Some athermic heat-reflecting windscreens and built-in windscreen heaters block GPS signal reception inside the car. The magnetic, waterproof TomTom ONE External Antenna overcomes this and ensures optimal GPS reception, should you place it inside or outside the car.

Customer Review: Antenna is amazing
My mate got me this for my tomtom, and it is amazing! I live in london and so tall buildings tend to mean weak receptiona and the tomtom go 910 i have takes a while to get a signal (without the antenna). So my mate got me one and it gives such better reception!

I get a signal much more quickly, the tomtom can see more satellites and never seems to lose the signal! Its definatly essential for city driving, as there have been a few times i’ve driven about in central london and my tomtom has thought im on a parallel road to where i am. But that just doesnt happen anymore.

This product is cheap and improves signal immensly. The wire is a bit long, but thats better than being too short!

Customer Review: Tomtom Go 910 arial review
I bought one of these arials for my TomTom GO 700 and the reception went from dodgy in many places to full bars almost everywhere, and quicker startup, even in central London and traveling around mountain areas in Wales. I’ve recently got a TomTom GO 910 as my wife and I got to the stage when we both wanted the satnav on the same day. With our car, the TomTom GO 910 has poor reception everywhere, although in several other cars we’ve tried it in, the reception is perfect, so I’m buying the arial for the 910 now and am assuming it’ll do the same good job. It’s good the TomTom Go comes with a microphone as standard, as that’s making a big difference for phone calls - I don’t take calls when I’m driving, but having hands free is better for calls than using the mobile phone set - especially on a long call. The bluetooth for the TomTom GO 910 is also good as directions (and mp3 files output, and text messages being read out) are now coming out of the car hi-fi as luckily the car hi-fi has got bluetooth input. It’s 4 stars as it works fine - I just wish it came with the 910 as standard for the price you pay

Philips DVDR 3380 DVD Recorder

Philips DVDR 3380 DVD Recorder
Customer Review: Philips comes good
I received this DVDR as a replacement for a previous Philips model DVDR which had crashed after a couple of years with a known software glitch. I was somewhat hesitant to deal with Philips after this bad experience, especially as I had to pay approx ?80 for the privilege, but I have no regrets. A new DVDR of this quality would have cost much more and the old one was not repairable. This uprated DVD is a faultless performer, is more user-friendly than its predecessor and can be changed to being region-free in a few easy moves (at no cost and without CDs or software downloads). Soooooooooo simple, I’d need to have been a moron not to be able to do it. Now I can watch films I’d waited half a lifetime to view because they’re only available for Region 1. I have it linked to a freeview box also with its own recordable hard drive and think I have the best combo without selling my soul to Sky+.

Customer Review: Superior DVD Recorder
Well first off this is my first ever DVD recorder, so I knew I was in for a learning curve upon reading the instructions. I know the fundamentals of DVD authoring, but had to read the instructions nonetheless. Luckily they are written out so well, I was recording DVD’s within the first day of operation. And it only took a few practice goes on a DVD-RW to fully learn all the most essential of operations.

The good:

- One touch recording. In other words, press the REC button several times for getting it to record for 30, 60, 90, 120 mins… and so on, as opposed to continuous recording (When you go to bed, go to work etc) which fills up the whole DVD. Very handy feature which I’ve never seen on a VCR before.

- Great (and simple) system and disc menus. The default (and only) disc menu is a little bland and boring though.

- Comes with 1, 2, 4 and 6 hour recording modes. 2 is DVD quality and 4 is VHS quality. I use 4 for everything I copy from videotape and many TV shows I record.

- Ability to split titles on RW discs. Means you can trim the (unwanted) start or end bits off recordings on these discs.

- You can append recordings. Ie- record at the end of an existing title rather than record a new title. Can be done on both R and RW discs.

The bad:

- The recorder occasionally hangs. Often this happens when you’re disc editing and choose a new index picture. (The thumbnail pic shown in the disc main menu)

- No fast forward/rewind ability while in edit mode. Edit mode is used to split titles, add chapters etc. This is more a nuisance than a problem.

- “Hiding Chapters” doesn’t work with other DVD players despite what the manual says. Ie- you use the hide chapter feature to “hide” commercials you have recorded, with the intent they don’t show up during playback. Unfortunately, they still do on other DVD players, even though the manual says otherwise.

- Automatic chapter creation is ONLY set to 5 mins, rather than being customisable. Ie- a 21 minute TV show would be better with 7 minute chapters which would line up closely withy commercial breaks.

- Says that new recorder software can be downloaded via the Philips website, but at the time of this review writing, it can’t. No such new software exists yet.

Conclusion:

I really do love this recorder despite the cons listed here. The pros do definitely outweight them due to quality rather than quantity. The main gripe I have with this recorder is the chapter functions. On RW discs you SHOULD be able to edit them by removing commercials rather than just hiding them (which doesn’t really work anyway).

And it would be nice to be able to do that on R discs by virtue of making the “recorded commercials” into unretrievable space on the R disc since R discs can only be written once anyway.

There also exists a need to be able to choose from different disc and system menus rather than the bland default one, and be able to set chapter length rather than settle for 5 minutes only.

Customer Review: Leave well alone
Had two of these. First one died after three weeks - it just powered itself off and never came back. The second one was pretty much DOA - displayed ‘Starting…’ but never started. Apart from that, it was easy enough to set up, but the user interface was not intuitive and the remote control response time was painfully slow.
Customer Review: ONE BOX TO FIND THEM, ONE BOX TO BIND THEM & IN THE FRONT ROOM USE THEM
I think this unit is good. I’m a confirmed Apple Mac user and had considered just putting another Mac in the front room with a DVB Tuner card in it. I might still do this, but for different reasons now. The rest of the family don’t embrace all the new technology and this is a BETTER DOMESTIC type solution. I like them so much, I bought 3 - but please note, I have a self interest as I’m now selling the other two units on here at a special price. I do like these unit though and even at full price would recommend. The dual tuner is useful in areas not yet getting a full digital service. It seems to play anything I put in it from my collection. Bags of Hard Drive space, yielding plenty of digital recording time. As a Apple Mac user I like my kit to look good and this meets that criteria as well.

Panasonic DMR-ES20DEBS DVD RAM Disc Recorder
Customer Review: pathetic
I rang this retailer up abou this product and the staff were very un professional and also hung up on me as they were unable to answer my comments i would recommend NOT to buy any products from this supplier as if this is the way they treat customers before they buy god help us if we folk out money then this behaviour occurs.
Customer Review: 6 months then bang
I purchased the Panasonic recorder because it had good reviews and also did all the things I wanted - play DVDs’ ,record plus freeview all in one neat box. But all I had is trouble. From the start the machine would not keep any preferences when it is turned off, so it has to remain on all the time unless the machine decided to turn it self off - for a self check - which it does, often. Now 7 months since purchase it no longer records or plays any disk! DO NOT BUY THIS MACHINE - YOU WILL WASTE YOUR MONEY!

Customer Review: Going Digital
The HDD DVD recorder seems excellent value for money and does the job perfectly. I don’t think you can record and watch a DVD or recording at the same time (other than the timeshift pause live tv function), but I might not have worked that part out yet. The instructions are pretty complicated!

My only concern with this product is it’s lack of built in digital decoder, so to record digital I have to use my old digital decoder. My TV has a built in decoder but I don’t think I can use that to record, so I have to have an additional decoder……I’m not quite sure what the solution is when the terrestrial signal gets switched off as it is a faff to make sure that the digi box is on the right channel for recording.

So although I’d recommend the product I think that next time I’ll definitely get a built in decoder as it would be tens times easier that way. Spend the extra money if you can afford it….

Customer Review: Waste of money
DVD recorder, built-in Freeview, multi-region - what more could a person ask for? Well how about the ability of the thing to actually work? I’ve had this product for about a year now and during this time it’s done nothing but freeze on me every time I actually wanted to use the thing. In fact most of my time this past year has been spent crawling on all fours round the back of the telly unplugging then plugging in this device just to get it to operate. Well not any longer. Last night the thing packed in altogether. And a good thing too. That means I can now get myself something decent. Hurray! The only positive thing I can say about this product is the endless joy I now derive from bashing it repeatedly with a hammer.
Customer Review: Constant freezes
I have owned this product for one day and my first impressions are that it is rubbish. I have already had numerous crashes and on rebooting from the mains it works for a while and then crashes again.Remote control buttons won’t operate the machine. This has definitely been a bad buy and will be being returned. Customer Review: SIMPLY TO USE. FEW POINTS FOR PEOPLE TO KNOW.
Firstly, this machine does not have a HARD DRIVE at all. Anyone who says it has has a different model number to this one. Regarding the only 2 hours recording thim this DVD has the facility to record EP which is 6hours play on DVD or 10hours on DLayer disc. Refer to pg 42 of manual and pg 23 for all settings. To operate these on the on creen display press the rec mode on the remote near 3 red record buttons on remote. It will show on screen when you repeatedly press rec mode on remote. A cute feature on this is when you are selecting programmes to record on the TV menu the machine will tell you if there is not enough room on disk to copy programmes it on. So then you just select the rec mode and in it corrected. As for the EPG update at 3-4 pm i found that if you put machine in total shut off mode i.e.(no time displayed at all) then the noise is not as bad. The first programme i recorded i had to power the machine up to see if it had stated to copy or not as nothing lit up on the display, my other Sony actually started up but this one does not. Great for the planet eh. Much more user friendly than my old Sony and I love the fact that you can start to watch something after you have started to record it. Say the phone goes so you start to record Corra, you can then start to watch it when phone call ends. You select title list and it will show you what you are recording then select enter and then select play from beginning, you watch start of show and the DVD finishes recording the end of Corra. Very clever indeed. Great machine, would recommend it to anyone. You’ll love it. So simple to use. Wrighty

Logic 3 MIP108 I-Station 8 iPod Speakers/Docking Station - White
For use with: All iPods

Customer Review: Smashing sound, shame about the extended functions…
I ordered this particular set of ipod speakers because I needed something reasonably compact without compromising on the sound and did not want to spend over ?100. It was a bonus that it came in white and would look more co-ordinated in the room it is intended for.

I have paired this with my ex-ipod; 4th generation 40G, to give the old ipod a useful function, and it sounds great, the remote is comprehensive, but the disappointment is the fact that my song names cannot be displayed, in the lovely backlighted blue display panel, with this ipod docked in it. Which is a waste of a function, in this case and hence a loss of a star.

Overall great sound and volume at an inexpensive price, but make sure your ipod is compatible for all the extended functions otherwise it may be a waste of money.

Customer Review: A must have product for all iPod users
I read a lot of reviews on this product before building up the courage to spend ?79.99 on this product, and I’ve got to say that I’m very impressed, and i would recommend it to anyone who is thinking about buying it.

The best thing about this product, is that iconic white colour, only a mad man would buy this product in white for a Black iPod. The next feature is the surprising sound quality. I thought that the maximum volume would be limited and that the quality of sound produced wouldn’t be as good as a hi-fi. I was soooo wrong. At half volume this portable beauty kicks out enough sound to get an old lady dancing and singing along to slipknot :P

I very good product that definitely deserves 5 stars.

Customer Review: Great product for non freeview digital users
Got this product as we have virgin cable and wanted something that could record onto a hard disc, which pretty much rules out everything with a built in freeview tuner.

Had the product set up in minutes, plug in the scart from the digi box and the other to the TV and thats it!

The recording buffer which automatically records whatever you’re watching is fantastic. Watched a DVD and found that the hard disc had recorded what was on the digi box which was great. Easy to rewind and pause live TV.

Fully recommended. Would get 5 stars if I could work out how to set the default channel to the decoder scart!

Fantastic.

Customer Review: Wot no Freeview?
Have just bought and sadly returned this item today. The built in tuner is analogue only, meaning that it’s not really suitable for me - it needs a separate Freeview box to be able to record channels others than BBC1 - Five. No Electronic Programme Guide means that if you’re after something that can be used like Sky+ with the added benefit of a DVD recorder, you’ve bought the wrong thing!
