Samsung DVD-HR755 - 250Gb Hard Drive DVD Recorder - Multi Format With HDMI Input
Used Price: ?179.99
Customer Review: Defective by design
This Samsung product has many great features. HDMI, HD compliant, 250GB and so on. Yet it will have you cursing at the device within hours of starting to use it. When programs are to be recorded using the timer capability, the device must be turned off. If you are playing something at the time, it will not record. So you must switch it off, let it start recording, then go back to what you were watching before, which naturally it has forgotten about leading to irritating searches. Then when the timed recording finishes, it switches off the device, regardless of what you were doing. It is intensely annoying to use. Not a good feature in a TV recorder. Other systems do not have this design flaw. One can only speculate as to why Samsung designers might consider this a sensible feature as it so obviously is not.

As standard bearers of the budget music software army, Data Becker are seeking to offer very good value for very little money: with the Music CD Recorder they’ve come quite close to hitting double top.

First off, this isn’t the most comprehensive or all-powerful of “rip-’n'-burn” software set-ups. Whereas some CD burners offer to beautify your soundtrack or frame your picture or newly edit your titles or, no doubt, coddle your breakfast eggs, the Music CD Recorder seeks to, well, record your music CDs. But in that limited role it works a treat. With its CD grab function, CD copying is a cinch; likewise the Intelligent Wizards make a very decent fist of guiding you through any glitches or gremlins. Meanwhile the sound restoration tools are well capable of enhancing most sounds; and to top it all off the noise filters, 3-D wave analysers, wave music editors and so on, are all present and totally useful for when you want to get a tiny bit clever and Oscar-winning.

Now for some criticisms: the console is a bit simplistic; the colours are raw and garish; the onscreen dials look like oversized Smarties. But these are mere details when set against its value-for-money credentials. –Sean Thomas

Customer Review: Budget CD copying at its best!
Wow what a great piece of software The best features of this piece of software is the cd editing features where you can take the hissing out of your old collections of cassettes and vinals! You can also edit out parts of songs you dont like, make remixes of your favourite songs and then copy it to a 80 min audio cd. It also lets you make “data” cds where you can store about 200 mp3 or wma files on a cd (but this doesnt play in some cd players) Also the Cd labeling is a nice touch to this budget software , if you want to make a really good label you are going to have to put your imagination to it. There are a few flaws to this software though the colours used in the software are a bit blunt and boring but this doesnt really affect the usage of the software in any way, this is the cream of the crop of the budget

Samsung Super Multi Format DVD Recorder With HDMI DVD-R155/XEU
Customer Review: can it record from sky plus ??!!
I have a sky plus box and was wondering if this dvd recorder will record programmes off this, if anybody knows anything about this please could you put your answer on here for me that would be great, many thanks x

Customer Review: Great machine
Initially I bought a HDD dvd recorder (not Samsung) to replace my old Samsung model.

After endless trouble trying to set up I shipped it back and bought this, the updated version of my old dvd. No set up problems with this. Easy to use and much quicker to load and process the discs.

It’s quieter as well.

If you don’t need a dvd with a hard drive, and on reflection, I don’t think I did! Then this piece of hardware comes highly recommended, and with a great price tag!

Customer Review: Floral head scarf
Generally this is lovely piece of kit. It never seems to crash or misbehave. I've had one failed finalisation attempt with mine, which left the disc empty, but I've no reason to think that this was the recorders fault - it reported a data error (perhaps the disc had just failed). My main gripe with it is that, I can't for the life of me get it to record from it's input SCART using the RGB signals - it all seems to be stuck on composite video. This, for me has meant that the picture from my freeview box is noticeable poorer than if I wire the freeview box directly to my TV. The picture quality is still good, just not excellent. It also has a fan in the back, which is whisper quiet, but seems unnecessary and might perhaps pull dust into the unit over time - we'll see. Recording time is up to 8 hours. For 1 to 2 hours, the picture quality is pretty pristine, after that artefacts do show a little - most noticeably on overlaid text. Still quite useable, mind and better than VHS. Trimming of video clips is possible only on DVD-RAM or DVD-R formated as DVD-VR which is incompatible with most DVD players, and is really only a fairly rough affair - enough to remove adverts, but not to edit a wedding video. Divx and MP3 playback work a treat. It does seem to be able to play SVCDs and VCDs, but unable to play MPEG1 and MPEG2 files (which seems odd). There's also a multi-region hack available on the web, which works a treat. As a rule, it's dead good. If only I could get it to record from RGB signals though.

Viva Vivaldi! is a concert by the Italian mezzo-soprano Cecilia Bartoli interspersing arias from the 20 surviving operas of Vivaldi with two concertos. Given with the early music ensemble Il Giardino Armonico before a very appreciative audience in the Th??tre des Champs-?lys?es, the performance is part of Bartoli’s exploration of the Venetian composer’s opera music which also includes The Vivaldi Album. That said there is very little overlap between the studio-recorded CD and this 105-minute concert. Anyone thinking of Vivaldi’s vocal music in the context of his uplifting scared works may get a shock, for Bartoli performs as if her life depended upon it, attacking pieces such as “Armatae Face et Anguibus” from Juditha Triumphans with vengeful gusto. Indeed, there is a startling dynamic energy, which contrasts powerfully with the more restrained interpretations by singers such as Emma Kirkby. Bartoli’s natural Italian and the live atmosphere of Maria Grazia d’Alessio’s oboe gives her interpretation of the quietly haunting and melodically rich “Non ti Lusinghi la Crudeltade” from Tito Manlio a particular piquancy. The Flautino Concerto is a most attractive interlude, while the more famous Lute/Violin Concerto beguiles with its exquisite lyricism. One Vivaldi opera not represented, Orlando Furioso, is available in a complete performance from 1989.

On the DVD: The anamorphically enhanced 1.77:1 image is well above average for a concert video with good detail, definition and colour, and compression artefacting only noticeable on rare completely static shots. There are three sound options: DTS, Dolby Digital 5.1 and PCM stereo. The surround options are certainly all enveloping, though there is a certain gimmickry in placing the flutes in the rear channels which is attractive with the eyes closed but is decidedly unrepresentative of what is happening on screen. In these modes Bartoli’s voice is curiously unfocused. The stereo alternative is clearly locked to the screen, with much of the information actually directed to the centre speaker. This is less expansive but has a natural clarity that will appeal to those who want a more accurate reproduction of the event. There are multiple language subtitles, including English, though the only special feature is the option to have the musical score superimposed over the concert. While a fine idea in principle the execution leaves everything to be desired: the score is presented on a translucent white backdrop, through which the musicians can be seen as pale, bleached-out ghostly figures. Unfortunately the overlaying of the two images results in such an irritating flicker that the screen is barely watchable. –Gary S Dalkin

Customer Review: Veni, vidi, I fell in love
Well well! What a voice - and what a girl. This DVD is worth every penny - except that it will have you reaching for the catalogues to get your surround sound system upgraded. Not only is the quality excellent, the selection of material is wonderful and shows off Cecilia’s talent. But what I enjoy most about this DVD is the fact that she seems to be enjoying herself so much. It draws you into the performance.
Customer Review: Reference quality performance
This disc, presented in DD5.1 and DTS, presents a concert recorded live by people that care about the way a concert should be portrayed. The 18 arias and concerto contained in it are performed by one of the best mezzo-sopranos, and some of the best musicians, we are lucky enough to have in our time. The direction catches the emotion that Cecilia Bartoli puts into this mesmeric performance. As usual with Arthaus, the bit rate never drops below 10, ensuring a crystal clear picture. The addition of “Score Plus”, an innovation that puts the score on the screen as a subtitle, is a great step forward for DVD. A reference quality disc.

Customer Review: Avoid!!
Ill get straight to the point, this is an AWFUL bit of kit, its painfully slow, records only when it feels like it and even then if it does record what you want it may just decide to randomly delete it at any time. Its also quite prone to freezing if you ask something complicated like changing channel to quickly. Oh and finally the picture quality is honestly so poor i don’t know how it passed quality control!!
Customer Review: Dont buy it - Period!
I bought the Belgian version of this device as it was on special offer, and 100 Euro cheaper than the Samsung one with the same spec. When I got it home i found out why. It crashes at the drop of a hat and having spent half a day trying to upgrade the firmware (I’m an electronics engineer so its not me!) I gave up. The hardware is fine and the build quality is good but without decent firmware its no better than an expensive paperweight. Ironically I bought it to replace a PC system as my wife was complaining that it was too unreliable. You dont need the hassle - honestly! If you think you are safe buying Philips - don’t, they are no better than any taiwanese no-name brand these days I’m sorry to say. No less sorry for them being the first company I worked for.

Philips DVDR610 Multi Region Capable DVD Recorder
Used Price: ?89.99
Customer Review: Garbage
This dvd recorder has put me off Philips products for life. It is the worst piece of electrical equipment I have ever owned. As other reviewers have noticed it can simply stop in the middle of a recording. Some discs it simply will not read - on one occasion it would not read the second disc of a 4 disc boxset, even though every other dvd player I own would read it. Don’t waste your money.
Customer Review: Completely unreliable - avoid like the plague
Like many other reviewers I’ve had loads of problems with this infuriating machine. When it works it’s great but it will often switch off suddenly during a recording or on playing a disc so if you want to record something it’s a complete gamble. A friend of mine who has a similar Philips model has had the same problems. Also it will not recognise some discs which it has previously recorded on so you can’t even access wg=hat you’ve recorded. I ahould have known I suppose because my Philips dvd player also developed a fault. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Customer Review: Worst dvd recorder I have owned
I bought this to replace a Medion (Tevion) recorder bought from Aldi. I assumed wrongly that the Sony would be of higher quality. My experiences have been similar to those of other reviewers. The machine has always been impossibly slow, hard to use, and lacking in some obvious features. It has always needed re-booting regularly, and now it has decided to die completely, with the dreaded “HDD error” display. Of course, it is now 14 months old,and just out of the one year guarantee. I echo the advice of other contributors - don’t buy a Sony. I have had no trouble with my Panasonic dvd player, but I wonder now with PVRs and cable/satellite playback whether I need a dvd recorder at all. Very disappointing machine, and very poor value. As for support from Sony - a joke.
Customer Review: Sluggish, poorly thought-out and unreliable
I got my first one of these as a replacement for the Sony RDR-HX510, which broke down after a short time. I have to say I didn’t really like this model. Although it had a hard drive that was twice the size of my previous machine, the extra capacity seemed to have been provided at the expense of many of the features which made the RDR-HX510 so good. Gone was the full-screen edit facility, with the playback being in a much smaller screen within the main screen. The rest of the screen area was needlessly given over to dead space. There were other drawbacks: Gone was the x2 FF and RW option of the predecessor, which I very much liked, and used a lot. Now the first setting was 1.5. Not too bad a speed, but unfortunately rendered next to useless, because playback is not smooth. The predecessor when running in 2x FF would playback the recording at twice the speed, and ran smoothly, whilst also allowing you to hear the double-speed sound track. This was a lovely feature for the purpose of quickly, accurately and easily finding certain points in a recording. The new machine only played back at a slower x1.5 speed, and ‘jumped’ annoyingly every few frames or so as it did so, making the playback so jerky as to be unwatchable, if you don’t want to get a headache. NO RECORD PAUSE!!!!!!!!! Now this is the most bizarre of all the feature cuts made with this supposed upgrade. There was no REC PAUSE button anymore. Again, for the purpose of editing out adverts, this is a command very commonly used (you can’t use the REC STOP function, because this will then break up the programme into what the machine sees as entirely separate recordings, so that a movie for example would be cut up into as many as seven separate recordings, which of course don’t playback consecutively. Therefore, when making a direct recording, you would naturally use the REC PAUSE button at the start of the ad break. This is usually my preferred method of cutting out ads, rather than using the edit facility afterwards, as using the REC PAUSE button gives a seamless edit point in playback, with no momentary freeze, as with recordings edited later in edit mode. Timed recordings The set up for this function was the most complicated and least intuitive I have ever encountered on any television recording device. The menu was very hard to navigate, and when you had finally managed to set your recordings, not all the details were displayed for them on one screen, so it was very hard to go back and review your timer settings. Even after several weeks of using this machine, I could not get the hang of this feature to the point where I could set a timer without thinking about it (as I have been able to do with every other VCR and DVD recorder I’ve owned). In addition, overall the machine was very sluggish. Its response to the remote commander was painfully slow, so editing and titling was a time-consuming nightmare. Nevertheless, I persevered, not wanting the hassle of having to send back another machine. However, the decision was made for me when, after less than a fortnight, the unit developed a fault. While trying to record to the hard drive, I got an error code of C:13 and a message saying ‘The Disk is Dirty.’ Now sometimes you might expect to see that when recording or dubbing to a DISK, as the Sony machines seem to be hyper sensitive, and even brand new disks, straight off a spindle are occasionally inexplicably rejected, but to see this message relating to the device’s hard drive was obviously worrying. I deleted a few recordings from the hard drive, wondering if the fact that the hard drive was nearly full had anything to do with it, but it made no difference. Perversely, although the machine wouldn’t allow me to record anything new to the hard disk, it did let me dub programmes from the hard drive onto DVD disk. However, even this facility was short-lived, and soon it was dead altogether. I got a second one of these models from Hyper-Fi in October 2007. It lasted 17 days before developing the same fault, with the same error message ‘The Disk is dirty.’ This time it wouldn’t even let me salvage the recordings I’d made, as I just got the message ‘Cannot record to this disk’ if I put a blank DVD in. I thought I’d try switching off the unit and unplugging it, as this has occasionally worked with the numerous other faulty DVD recorders I have had from Sony. On this occasion however it just made a bad situation worse. This time when I switched the power back on, all that happened was that the message HDD ERROR appeared flashing in the display of the unit, and that was that. The machine was effectively dead. So this model is appallingly bad to use and equally unreliable. On the good side, Hyper-Fi were brilliant; with possibly the most speedy, efficient and friendly customer services I’ve had the pleasure to deal with. I say that here because the Amazon web site wouldn’t let me submit seller feedback for them for some reason. Bottom line: don’t buy ANY Sony DVD recorder. I’ve had NINE different machines in 18 months, and all have them have broken down within a short time. Of all of them, this was the worst. Get a Panasonic instead.

Tomtom ONE UK Car Charger Customer Review: Did the job perfectly
I had problems with the original TomTom car charger not connecting properly to the unit, and therefore failing to charge in the car (a pretty serious shortcoming as battery life is no more than 2 hours). As it charged without any problems when connected to my PC, I decided to try buying a replacement charger.
The price of this unit (currently 1p) is unbelievable, and I was sceptical about it because of that. However, the cost of P&P is relatively high, and I guess that’s where they hide the real cost. Whatever - it arrived, and it works perfectly, so don’t be put off by that.
Good product (although it’s hardly rocket science), but I personally think it would attract more people with a realistic (low) price and a corresponding reduction in the P&P charges. The way it’s marketed at th moment does a disservice to a perfectly good product.

Xtrememac MicroMemo for iPod with Video - White MicroMemo Digital Voice Recorder for iPod w/video - White - EU
Customer Review: Turn your iPod into a portable digital sound recorder
I’d give this 5 stars if it wasn’t for the disappointing perforance of Xtremamacs own microphone.

The real selling point of this gadget is that it turns your iPod into a portable digital sound recorder. It has a 3.5mm socket for stereo line-input and 2 selectable sensitivities : ‘mic’ and ‘line’. It makes sound recordings in ‘wav’ format, making them readily exportable to just about any sound application on PC or Mac.

The first thing I did with this gadget was to make a test recording with the supplied mono microphone, using the ‘mic’ (sensitive) setting. The recording level was disappointingly quiet.

Next I tried a Sony powered microphone designed for use with minidisc recorders. This resulted in a very good stereo recording, but I had to use the ‘mic’ setting (a recording made with the recommended ‘line’ setting was barely audible).

The Xtrememac’s built-in speaker is quiet but good quality. In practise its main purpose is to confirm that you have in fact successfully made a recording !

In summary, this item as supplied is fine for recoring voice memos, with the supplied microphone close to the person being recorded. I don’t think the microphone supplied would be ideal for recording in a lecture theatre or for recording a conversation between a number of people.

However, with a good powered microphone it really comes into its own. There is also the possibility of connecting the line input to another external source such as a mixing desk, tuner output etc.

I will be using it to make rough demos of my songs to upload onto Myspace etc. Recordings with a powered mike are almost good enough for CD quality, but may need a little cleaning up to remove a subtle level of hiss that will be detectable to the discerning lestener.

Philips DVDR80 DVD Recorder
Digital picture and sound quality with Dolby Digital 5.1 playback
Used Price: ?248.49
Customer Review: Good ideas, poor product design!
I bought the Philips DVDR80 recorder in 2004, from another store, for ?610 (+ insurance) and just after 6 months, it started to fail to read and record DVD discs properly, this was due to a cheap Philips laser reader pickup and under-developed software. It was sent for repair to one of Philips registered repair stores and a new laser was replaced and software updated. I was pleased when I got it back because I loved the features of it: the different recording qualities and flexible recording! Just recently it had became faulty again, and this time it couldn’t record nor did it recognise any disc I put into it, so the DVD recorder was sent back for repair and Philips, with all their qualified repair staff, told me that it was unrepairable and that they are no longer selling that model - this was disappointing, and in a way a waste of money! Philips used to be very good with their products. Nowadays, Philips seem to have very good ideas, but poor and half-baked product designs that are never well thought out, and are quick to release products without testing it first to make a quick buck! Since the company had bad management over the years, their standards and quality controls have gone down. What a shame they are no longer a top brand that anyone can trust!
Customer Review: Very good overall
I’ve had my DVDR80 for a couple of months now and I’ve been very pleased with it, especially after reading the problems many people have had with the 70 and 75. I have to agree that the remote isn’t the best but I’m getting used to it. My two main difficulties are that you have to press and hold to be able to fast forward / rewind (I keep skipping chapters by mistake) and then that the letters aren’t written above the keypad numbers. I don’t think the letters are written in the manual either so I’m not sure if I’m missing any functionality. I just keep referring to my mobile - the same letters seem to be assigned to the same number keys. I especially like that my Sky box can start off the recorder. A handy hint for when entering title names - if you press ‘Select’ then the letter is changed to uppercase. So, if you’re used to texting on your mobile then it’s fairly easy to enter titles and then go back and change any letters to uppercase afterwards. All I’d like to see now is the ability to merge recordings as well as split. I’m doing that on my PC at the moment and it’s a little bit cumbersome to go between the two…

Toshiba DR160 DVD Recorder
Amazon Price: ?108.88
Used Price: ?82.99
Customer Review: Adequate basic recorder
I was looking for a second entry-level -R/RW recorder, having already got a Funai 2737 (which does the job fine). Decided to try the Toshiba as it had the benefit of Chase Play. In actual fact, this Toshiba seems to be the same underlying chassis as the Funai, with a different (somewhat more attractive) fascia. All rear ports and the user interface are all identical. The only difference is the addition of chase play. If you are drawn to this machine because of this feature then beware. Chase play can only be used when recording in quality setting of long play, or lower. This is tolerable on a small screen TV, but the quality when viewed on a large screen is barely acceptable, more or less making chase play a feature you will never use anyway. Apart from that, the unit looks and works fine, however, it might be worth considering the Funai and saving yourself ?25.
Customer Review: Not a bad machine, just too noisy
This machine has some very good points, but its too noisy to be used in a living room. Ours was RMAed. On the plus side: - Discs are initalised quickly, you can be recording on DVD-R within 20 secs. - The menu system is clear and easy to use - The DVD playing machanism is very quiet, you can’t hear the disc spinning at all - The DVD-R disc recorded played perfectly in Pioneer DVD (Dv464), Argos in Car DVD and PC. - It can play CDs of Jpegs. However the downsides out weight these good features: - Its very noisy, there is case fan at the back, that is always on when the recorder is. Watching Planet Earth with the DVD recording is, unconfortable, there is a constant whiring. Its 3 or 4 times noisyer than my AV reciever and I thought that was noisy! - remote control is “boxy” and square, hence unconfortable in the hand. - DVD-R take a LONG time to finalise, over 20 Mins. - It cannot play DVD-R discs of photo JPEGs burnt on my PC, that my Pioneer DVD player plays fine. Hence only 3 stars I’m afraid ….

Lite-on 5045 Dual Format DVD Recorder with 160GB Hard Drive
Forget about the running out of recording space. With the built in160GB HDD (Hard Disk Drive) you may record up to 198 hours (SLPmodes) of quality video programs on it. The co-existence of theoptical disc drive and the built-in HDD on LVW-5045 doesn

Customer Review: OMG - They actually make you pay for this?
I bought one of these machines a week ago, having owned reliable Lite-on machines before. It arrived (from Germany) and worked superbly for 36 hours! It then refused to eject the disc I was playing, and just taunted me with ‘HELLO’ constantly! I emailed the supplier 3 times, and have yet to receive a reply from them. If I do not receive a reply by 10 Feb, I will be making a complaint and a claim to Amazon asking for a full refund! AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID UPDATE! Having made my claim through Amazon, the seller almost immediately made contact with me and arranged to pick up the Recorder. I have now had a full refund (from Amazon) and am awaiting the collection of this overpriced doorstop!
Customer Review: Liteon 5045 - too many problems
My liteon is barely 2 years old - numerous problems. On a number of occasions the hard disc has reformated itself without warning. But the bigger problem is that it will no longer record from hard disc to a DVD of any type. Liteon technical support have not answered a single email to date - and I am informed by a technician that it will be cheaper to just buy a new DVD recorded instead of have it repaired. Shame because the functions were actually quite good.

Sony RDR-VX410 DVD Recorder VCR Combination
Used Price: ?189.99
Customer Review: CAN I SEND IT BACK? PLEASE!!
Despite the negative feedback from some reviews (which I DID read before purchasing, I’m ashamed to say) I decided to brave it and buy a Sony RDR-VX410. Credit where it is due, the picture quality is very good. It is also relatively simple to use if you don’t bother about the advanced features. Simply recording from TV, copying DVD to VHS and vice versa works well and should please most users. HOWEVER DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT try to play double sided DVDs. It will get stuck inside the machine for a VERY LONG time. Guaranteed! I get the same problem with some normal, single sided DVDs but couldn’t figure out any sort of “pattern” with them. The machine tries to “load data” for absolutely ages and never starts playing. You press the eject button, it acknowledges the command by displaying eject on the display for a few seconds, then it tries to “load the data” again. This cycle repeats itself WAAAY, WAAAY longer than a normal, level headed person would be expecting to wait for a simple “Eject” function to be performed. Last time it happened and I wasn’t so furious that I could time it, it took 25 minutes for me to be able to get the F*****G disc out. (”Ah! It must be a problem with the discs”, I hear you say… WRONG! It isn’t! I play them ALL PERFECTLY on my CHEAP AND CHEARFUL Alba player, which is now permanently stationed on my rack, above the Sony. And to think that my intention when I bought the Sony was to reduce the number of appliances in my bedroom!). This problem occurred 8 to 10 times in the past few months. It must be an incompatibility issue of some sort, a design fault or this one is faulty, I don’t know. Quite frankly, I expected much better from a product made by a household name such as Sony, which for me has always been synonymous with reliability, ease of use and long lasting equipment. This one has left me wishing I hadn’t bought it. Most operations are painfully slow and the eject button has a mind of its own. Also, the menu on some DVDs simply don’t show. You can’t select an episode or chapter or scene. You have to play the whole movie, whether you like it or not. Having said all that, I still trust Sony, naively trying (hard) to convince myself that this was just a bad design or I got unlucky. Can I send it back? Please?
Customer Review: A Good Buy!
Having read the review on this site, I was loathe to risk the purchase, but having long experience of Sony products I decided to risk it. I am so pleased that I did. I have not experienced any of the problems the earlier reviewer mentions. ALL my DVD’s and video’s play on the machine, “homegrown” or purchased - with excellent results. My only complaint? The Instruction book is rather complex, and pre-supposes a knowledge of the subject.

With its integrated card reader and USB port you can play and watch video programs stored in various devices. As a TV receiver it has the integrated features of fast program scan, Electronic Program Guide (EPG) and Teletext.

Customer Review: Where it belongs
Yes I bought one of these and it’s now on the local rubbish dump where it belongs. It never worked.

Customer Review: Elegant and nice!
I was in the market for a good quality portable DVD player for my daughter and stumbled on this Xoro gem which also comes with Freeview TV and whole host of other useful features. The player looks really smart and feels robust. The screen gives very good pictures. The unit’s seven-day electronic programme guide is easy to operate and the tuner only takes a couple of minutes to locate the TV and radio channels. The player comes with its mini-aerial, and like all digital sets, this TV does have to be in strong signal area to receive TV preogrammes. Other features include an SD card reader so one can view their photos as a slideshow. There are two headphone jacks which is handy if you have two kids who want to watch a DVD at the same time when you are driving!

The only area that is not allowing me to give it 5 stars is the TV reception in poor signal areas (not the players fault mind you!). Overall very pleased and recommended.

August DA110CD is a multi-functional personal entertainment centre. It is LCD TV, digital Freeview TV receiver, digital radio receiver, high quality tablet DVD player with slot-in disc loader, media player from SD/MS/MMC memory cards and from an external hard disc via USB port, digital photo displayer and widescreen (16:9) high resolution monitor (800×480 pixels) for other media player or a game console. With stylish state-of-the-art design, outstanding picture and sound quality and user friendly features. It becomes an ideal TV and media player for kitchen, bedroom, caravan, boat and travelers. It can also be connected to a larger screen to output TV, video and digital photos to your home TV. Please note that there may be difficulty to receive Freeview TV signal by the included portable antenna in some areas where the signal is not sufficiently strong at present. This is due to that the Freeview service (www.freeview.co.uk) in the UK is yet full power broadcasting to support portable TV antenna at present. The reception will be improving along with the progress of Digital Switchover Program (http://www.digitaltelevision.gov.uk). A signal amplifier or booster may improve reception capability in regions where the signal is marginally strong. (Please note that reception capability may also be affected by various factors such as proximity to Freeview TV/digital radio transmitters, tall building structures, thick walls, ceilings and etc.). A rooftop TV aerial may be required to watch Freeview channels in regions where the signal is insufficient for a portable antenna.
Customer Review: Impressive for a portable LCD TV
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I bought one of these for my wife as a present, especially as I’d never heard of the manufacturer before, but I was pleasantly surprised. Because I’m so close to our local transmitter I’m within the “shadow” area and have to use a good rooftop aerial, none of my prior TV’s have obtained a decent picture from either an inbuilt aerial, or even one of the custom wall-mounted types connected through a booster, so I wasn’t at all surprised to find I needed to connect this to the external aerial as well. For that reason I can’t make a fair comment about the inbuilt aerial. No doubt I’ll find out how good that is when I next go camping, but if we can’t get a signal it’s easy enough to take a few films along with us instead ! That aside, picture quality is very good, whether for analogue TV, freeview, DVD, or plugged into the Sky box. DVD in particular was much better than I was expecting for such a compact unit. Sound is fairly decent too, obviously it’s nowhere near as good as a hi-fi when it comes to audio cd’s, but good enough to play music on in the kitchen, bathroom or a tent if you just want something playing in the background while you get on with other things. The flexibility of the unit is what impressed me the most, it’ll handle just about anything you can throw at it. The only thing it doesn’t have is an HDMI input for my HDV camcorder, but then it’s not a High Definition TV so I knew that wouldn’t be an option…. I’d definitely recommend it as a kitchen or bathroom TV that will also double up as a personal DVD player to keep the kids occupied in the car on a long journey, or a wet evening at the campsite. My only complaint is that the controls can seem somewhat sluggish in responding, I’m not always sure if it’s registered the button presses or not.

Customer Review: Philips 32PF5531D - 32″ Widescreen HD Ready LCD TV - With Freeview
Ordered this TV from Amazon 22:30 on Tuesday 12th February and paid for express delivery which was excellent as the TV arrived am Thursday 14th, Was looking at a lot of 32″ TV on Amazon but this one was the cheepest I saw and purchased it based on the 2 good reviews it had. Ever so easy to set-up and once it was out of off the box it was installed and ready to watch in under 10 mins and picture quality is far better than the old 19″ TV it replaced This also came with a freeview box inside which will save me now ?30-?40 when they switch us over to the dicital signal.
Customer Review: Excellent piece of kit
I’m very impressed with this TV, especially for the price I paid for it. I ordered it on a Saturday & it was delivered to me on Tuesday - how’s that for prompt delivery! The TV is super, the picture quality excellent and the sound very good, although to be fair it would sound better through a surround system or a decent HiFi unit (but then I expected that consider the actual size of the speakers in this thing). The set-up was a doddle, once I’d remembered to hit the OK button when English appeared on the screen (trying to read the set-up menu in Polish was somewhat interesting first time round!). Two scart sockets mean that I can easliy plug in my satellite connection, a DVD player & a video recorder so that they all work together. I’ve not tried the Audio Out yet but will get round to that in time. Overall an excellent purchase.

Superb LG 22LS4D with a HD Ready panel for crisp, clear images and a digital tuner to receive up to 42 digital TV channels. Perfect for the bedroom or the smaller living room.
Customer Review: A great TV!
I’ve owned this TV for a few months now and i have to say its great! the picture quality is superb and having a higher native resolution, its great to use as a PC monitor. The only problem i found was the sound quality of the built in speakers, they sound more like loud headphones, but this can be easily sorted by connecting a set of speakers to the headphone socket. If your looking for a high quality HDTV/PC monitor you really cant go wrong with this. there are plenty of connections, i currently have a pc, xbox 360, ps3 and a freeview box connected and theres still another AV socket and S Video to spare.
Customer Review: Very good TV but poor sound
For gaming this TV is great, the picture is crisp and clear. But the sound quality is beyond poor. The base is drowned out all the time and what makes it worse is there is no headphone jack to connect speakers to.

TomTom GO 500 - GPS Navigation System with Bluetooth Handsfree Customer Review: Good Tool
I think some of the bad reviews are being a bit harsh. Remember SAT NAV is just a map like any other map, albeit electronic. If you are using a paper map which displays two-ways on a now one-way road, you use your judgment as an intelligent person and choose not to go down that road. From this you learn that obviously your map is out of date and likewise the maps in the TOM TOM can become out of date as streets change.

Most people want to sit back and let the TOM TOM do the driving. If that is your attitude then of course you will be disappointed. Remember that this is a tool to make your journey and finding your way easier than always referring to a map. The benefits of this little device far outweigh the negatives.
Customer Review: great but
This is an invaluable piece of kit to anyone who travels a lot
helps you avoid those painfull traffic jams as well.
Two slight down sides one when travelling on the motorway its almost impossible to hold a telephone conversation as you cant hear what the caller is saying, although is fine on normal roads doing normal speeds. If the tom tom has been very heavily used occasionally one has to remove the card and reset the device. Iwould not want to be without my tom tom when travelling in or to unfamilar districts.
