I’d been searching for ages for an iPod speaker dock system that would rival and maybe even replace my old separates hi-fi system that had started to show its age. (I work in the film industry and used to run a recording studio so good sound is very important to me). I was pretty thorough in my research, home-tested two different units, became a pain to many a shop assistant and also poured over reviews on the net researching which units to test. I finally bought the Klipsch iGroove iPod Speaker System from Amazon and am very happy with it indeed. In fact, I think it is the best sounding iPod speaker dock that I found to date and recommend it most highly.
Speaker docks have two design limitiations:
1) The size of the dock tends to limit the bass response.
2) The way many docks connect to the iPod is via a male socket that plugs into the base of the iPod. This socket is often hard-wired to the pcb of the dock system, is subject to stress when the iPod is plugged in or unplugged and therefore can fail after light use.
The iGroove has a bass port at the back of the unit which is very effective. Additionally, the iPod fits snugly into the cradle on the unit, with a neat slider arrangement embedded into this cradle being adjusted up or down depending on which iPod you fit. (I use this unit with a 5g Video iPod and a 4g 40 Gig iPod just fine). The actual male connector is fixed firm and has no play to it. By adjusting the slider to the correct hight, you can drop the iPod into the unit and take it out again without causing any stress at all to the plug. Also, if you adjust the slider correctly, the iPod cannot move at all when connected, thereby limiting the potential for any stress to the connector.
Untis I tested included the following:
Monitor Audio i-deck Speaker Dock for iPod (I actually bought one of these and although it sounded great, I returned it after a couple of months as the connector failed - a common fault according to Newsgroups)
JBL Onstage II - iPod Speaker System - (very dissappointing sound and really lacked in bass)
JBL Radial - High Performace iPod Speaker System - (although more powerful, still not as impressive as I’d hoped)
Smaller, cheaper units sounded smaller and cheaper! I also read some pretty worrying comments from users of iRythhm regarding failure of the connector…
In summary:-

Remote is a bit fussy - have to point it directly to the unit as it is infra-red (the Monitor Audio iDock used an RF remote which was much better).

Very pleased with it, sound is truly amazing for such a small unit, great bass (much better than the Bose, I think, and cheaper too) and very little distortion at high volume. It’s very close to the Apple hi-fi for sound quality but is much smaller and the ipod sits securely in front, not balanced on top (significant risk of damage in a house with 2 small kids rushing about). The ability to use other MP3 players or laptops with it was also a big plus. The only niggle is that the remote is tiny and easy to lose, so a place to store it in or on the unit would have been helpful.

I bougth this item 3 days ago now, and like other amazon shoppers, i tend to view the reviews.
Some of the reviews for this item were a little worrying, but i went ahead anyway, and i am very pleased i did.
Firstly, it arrived very promptly, well packaged and brand new.
The instructions are simple and within 10 mins i was up and running.
There are two ‘ arms’ to support this device, iwould suggest using just the one, it is plenty strong enough.
The device sits perfectly in my Ford Focus, and remains in a firm position, even going round corners.
The clarity and the volume are brilliant, and more than ample for drivers who like their music loud but not deafening.
I would def recommend getting one, and i will be ordering one for my wife after i finish this review.

Easy to set up & works fine. Sound quality however poor : inferior to CD & FM car radio.I’ve never heard any other makes so can’t compare but sound quality is a major issue.Dissapointing because ipods are good quality.

Customer Review: Never Buy This!
Bad Points: 1) Right out of the box it booted so many times every day I lost count and hasn’t stopped since. 2) It randomly loses sound or signal on all channels and must be turned off by the button on the machine then on again before it will work. 3) Sometimes it will suddenly give out a very loud static hiss that won’t stop until you turn it off at the button on the machine then on again. 4) Our Matsui tv remote is also able to interfere with it so we must carefully aim the tv remote above the digital recorder or it will mess up recording/playback etc. 5) When pressing buttons on the digital recorder remote it will do the action of the button pressed previously a few times before it will do the action it’s supposed to be doing. For example, if I try to raise the volume then lower it, the button to lower it will continue to raise the volume for a few presses. 6) Timed recordings often don’t work on playback, they’re just black through the entire duration with no sound. 7) Sometimes programmes set to record are not recorded at all (probably because we turned the TV off with the TV remote while the digital recorder is recording another show and it’s brought up a message asking if you want to stop recording. If this is up, timers don’t record like they should). 
Its electronic programme guide is slow to load and often doesn’t load up completely 9) Sometimes it will get stuck in a loop of trying to record something on a timer, then booting, then starting to record, then booting. Luckily after quite a few minutes I managed to be quick with the remote to stop it recording so it’d stop booting. 10) It’s always slow to respond to the remote control, sometimes taking as long as 10 seconds to respond. Good Points: None that make it worth suffering all its bad points for! It makes me sick to think how much was spent on it. I must be insane to have bought this product. I’ve had it 1-2 years so it’s been well tested.
Customer Review: Avoid the twin tuner GHDD1785 too!
I bought the slightly pricier GHDD1785DVBT (from elsewhere) as it had twin digital tuners for a very reasonable price. Plus points - an attactive and compact unit with easy to use menus and EPG, the picture quality is great and hardly ever any picture interference. On the negative side, and most annoyingly, even on standby it regularly switches channels on the TV (eg when watching DVDs). The sound freezes up or becomes unsynchronised when watching and recording simultaneously. Apparently some of the the infrared remote commands seem to use the same frequency as some of my other non-Goodmans equipment. I returned and replaced the box at the retailer but the faults appear to be design or engineering flaws, so this baby is going back as soon as I can watch all the backlog of recorded programs.

Ill get straight to the point, this is an AWFUL bit of kit, its painfully slow, records only when it feels like it and even then if it does record what you want it may just decide to randomly delete it at any time. Its also quite prone to freezing if you ask something complicated like changing channel to quickly. Oh and finally the picture quality is honestly so poor i don’t know how it passed quality control!!
Customer Review: Dont buy it - Period!
I bought the Belgian version of this device as it was on special offer, and 100 Euro cheaper than the Samsung one with the same spec. When I got it home i found out why. It crashes at the drop of a hat and having spent half a day trying to upgrade the firmware (I’m an electronics engineer so its not me!) I gave up. The hardware is fine and the build quality is good but without decent firmware its no better than an expensive paperweight. Ironically I bought it to replace a PC system as my wife was complaining that it was too unreliable. You dont need the hassle - honestly! If you think you are safe buying Philips - don’t, they are no better than any taiwanese no-name brand these days I’m sorry to say. No less sorry for them being the first company I worked for.

Customer Review: Marvellous - don’t hesitate
Looks great - plays great - records brilliantly. Bought this to replace a Philips - and it’s perfect. Records onto any old DVD+ or DVD- (even cheapo ones from Lidl!), replays at fantastic quality AND upscales to 1080p! Not listed as multiregion, but still seems to play my few US discs quite happily. Also plays discs made on my PC without complaint. Looks the business, too, in moody black! Even broadcast output from a digibox looks better played through this machine. However, the Sony wants to be the last thing in the chain - ie plug the digibox (or whatever) into the Sony, and then the Sony into the TV. (My chain goes VCR > digibox 1 > digibox 2 > Sony GX350 > telly - and works a treat.) At this price you’re not going to get a digital tuner. (Even if you did you’d still only be able to record one thing - a twin tuner PVR would be better.) But recording quality on the Sony GX350 is indistinguishable from the original - even at 2.5 hour length. In fact, recording and playback quality are both absolutely marvellous. Complaints? Well, the manual seems a little over-complicated (110 pages!). And as someone has said before, the on-screen instructions are in a tiny font. Editing functions are limited to DVD- discs. But for 99 quid, who’s quibbling? First class.
Customer Review: Difficulty in setting up with Sky HD
I bought this to do 1 thing, which is to empty my full Sky HD hard drive, I know it doesn’t record in HD, as yet nothing commercially available will. No all I wanted to was to put the 6 recorded Rugby league games onto their own discs. I have an AV amp at the heart of my system, I have the SKY HD box and this recorder feeding into that via HDMI and an HDMI from AV Amp to the Plasma TV, working a treat. Now I wanted to connect the recorder side of things via scart, firstly no signal at all coming into the recorder, that was the SKY box output setting, sorted, then when I did eventually get a picture its about one third the size of my plasma with no sound at all. This I assumed was the very expensive RGB Scart I used which I suspect is picture only, add an audio lead I thought, the problem is there is no audio input on this Sony other than the decoder/line in scart. So I have had to buy a second fully wired scart, but still when I look at the picture through this scart it is still reduced in size to the middle of the plasma. Frustrating!! so in terms of playing DVD’s it is good, trying to get recordings from the Sky HD box to it though is a different matter.

I bought this a while ago, the first one I got didn’t even switch on so they replaced it. The second one worked ok for about 5 months and I have nothing but trouble with it since….it only records when and if IT feels like it - it has no consistancy it reads a disk fine one time and then put the same disk in 2 mins later and it says disk is not compatable! It’s a very expensive DVD PLAYER NOT RECORDER unless you only want it for 5 months. Please save your money a buy a decent one - that’s what I’ve had to do!!!

Customer Review: Stylish, good quality and easy to use
I was after a nice LCD TV for the bedroom which wasn’t black, that was quite good and didn’t cost me a fortune… Well I found it! Very stylish, it looks great but it does the job well too. Extremely easy to set-up, it’s all automatic and you just need to press the Ok button few times, great picture and quite good sound too really. Also, menu are quite intuitive at least compared to other brands… which is a plus! Freeview is as good as with a set-top box and connectivity is very good. I’ve got to try it with my Xbox… 
So overall extremely pleased especially if you think about the price is currently on sale for! Very good value for the money spent. Oh, delivery from Amazon was fast as usual and without problem.

I bought this as a replacement for my parents kitchen tv. It is a good looking tv not to heavy at all and easy to install and get up and running as my parents found to their delight. Once the digital channel button was found on the remote there was no going back to analogue tv. The picture is fantastic with only a slight blurring with fast changing colours, but the black is excellent making the colours stand out and be vibrant. Some other reviews have mentioned the sound not being he strongest but no complaints so far and the room this is in, is not a small room. Overall mightily impressed with this tv and bargain as well.

Customer Review: the only one to consider
After much research and going from one review website to another I narrowed down my choices to 2, the topfield or the humax, boy did I make the right choice, the topfield is a without doubt the best there is on the market, even the slightly higher price tag its worth every penny. It will transform the way you can watch televison, its so easy to use and set up and the picture quailty is much better than the previous digital box I used. Having heard the noise from a neighbours sky plus machine I was very concerned about the noise the machine would make and the topfield does not have a cooling fan, unlike the humax.There is a slight noise at start up but once its up and running the machine is totaly silent. The other amazing plus point is that once you get to grips with the basic machine updating via the website and forum pages takes the machine to the next level. Bought from amazon it arrived within 2 days and was up and recording in minutes!!

Have you noticed how the only programmes you want to watch all seem to be on at 9.00 pm on the same night? Now you can record 2 while watching one.Everyone else has mentioned the obvious aspects easy tuning,etc and I agree with all this. But as well as liking TV I am a big radio fan and before Digital the the only way I was able to record was using Audio Casetters which were pretty useless, Now I can “diaryise” Radio channels as well as TV and I love the old Radio 4 Archives on BBC7. The digital radio channels are wonderful. I also own one of te original Pace recorders which were good in their day but only 10 hours of storage!!! The topfield is just so much better. the TV Guide within it makes setting up a doddle. Just scroll down the channels guide and press record on the ones you want. You can then adjust to daily,weekdays, weekly one off etc. oddly I seem to watch less as I just watch the programmes I really want. Cannot recommend it enough

Just about to reorder, the first one lasted about 2 yrs, which is great for the price! Great sound, easy to work. One major draw back; My lighter dock is so low down on the car that I can’t actually fit my Ipodmini into the dock so it lies next to the gear stick. Other than that I love this item and it’s a perfect solution!

Customer Review: You are just buying hassle. Avoid this one.
At first look this blender looks decent quality with a good glass bowl. I have had two and both have just fallen to pieces. The first one was replaced without question by Amazon after the bearings gave up after only lite use. The second has also blown apart the blade drive. Delonghi are absolutely useless on after sales service and will not reply to emails or respond to phone calls.They just keep you hanging on earning them money from your call. Their parts supplier say they do not carry spares for this model. How bad is that? Avoid this machine and Delonghi.

Customer Review: Overrated, very disapointed. Avoid.
There is no built in digital receiver (a separate set top box is needed), the disc player has a high pitch whistle when playing a disc and play back quality using the hard disc facility is poor. Oh and my toshiba television remote (32wlt68) does not operate it when switched to dvd or vcr settings. So I now have a zapper for my set top box, one for my t.v. and one for the dvd/vcr player.Thats three in total. To record a programme onto the hard disc facility via the set top box is like crossing the M25 on foot blindfolded and walking backwards. The back of my t.v. unit is like spahetti junction too.
Customer Review: Great but not quite perfect
Having read all the reviews on Amazon about this machine, I decided to take the plunge while the price was so good (?165). While overall it’s a great machine, it does have some disapointments. The first thing I discovered was that it is not multi-region (at least one reviewer said it was). It may well play NTSC VHS (I don’t know, I don’t have a tape to test it with) but it certainly wont play region 1 DVDs. The next thing I discovered was that it wont copy DVDs recorded on another machine. This is a pain if you have, say, old camcorder footage that has been previously transfered to DVD and you want to re-edit on the Toshiba’s HDD. This is obviously none copyright material, so why not let it be copied freely? The last problem that I discovered was when transfering old camcorder-shot VHS material from the 1980s. Sometimes during the transfer, the machine stops dubbing and shows a message that it will not dub copyright material??? And when it does copy, it’s a bit hit and miss on the final result, with copies suffering from tracking style problems. I guess the solution is to hook up a seperate VHS/DVD player for the initial dubbing of old material. Not ideal and defeating the object somewhat but once they are transfered, that’s it. On the plus side, using the HDD for recording is great. Setting it at LP, the picture is perfectly acceptable. The thumbnails are essential for identification as the recorder doesn’t automatically name the recordings and doing it manually via the handset is tedious. It does actually list the channel, recording setting and day/time/date of the recording but the time/date function does sometimes default to ‘Mon 01/01/07′(maybe this is a fault on my machine?). The timeslip function is another great feature. If a TV programme is about to start and you’re still making your sandwich, just press ‘timeslip’ and carry on with your chore. When you sit down 10 minutes later, press ‘timeslip’ again and the show starts from the begining and you can watch it as if live (and fast forward the ads). You can even watch a previously recorded programme on the HDD while recording something else on the same HDD at the same time!!! Transfering from HDD to DVD is easy. I transfered 2 movies, total running time 3 hours (after I had edited out the ads) using the auto function to fit them neatly onto the disc. The result was perfect and the quality great. The finished disc had a neat menu (don’t think it will do chapters) and played fine on another player in the house. My TV is a bog standard, 3 or 4 year old telly. Not even widescreen and I’ve not had any of the problems that have been mentioned in some of the other reviews. I have a freeview box connected by scart and a normal sky box, again scart connected. Everything is just connected as if the Toshiba was a normal VHS machine and there are no problems with not being able to watch one channel while recording another that have been experienced by other reviewers. So, despite the problems of transfering old video material (and that may be just unique to my stuff), it’s still a great machine and at ?165, it’s a great bargain.

As standard bearers of the budget music software army, Data Becker are seeking to offer very good value for very little money: with the Music CD Recorder they’ve come quite close to hitting double top.
First off, this isn’t the most comprehensive or all-powerful of “rip-’n'-burn” software set-ups. Whereas some CD burners offer to beautify your soundtrack or frame your picture or newly edit your titles or, no doubt, coddle your breakfast eggs, the Music CD Recorder seeks to, well, record your music CDs. But in that limited role it works a treat. With its CD grab function, CD copying is a cinch; likewise the Intelligent Wizards make a very decent fist of guiding you through any glitches or gremlins. Meanwhile the sound restoration tools are well capable of enhancing most sounds; and to top it all off the noise filters, 3-D wave analysers, wave music editors and so on, are all present and totally useful for when you want to get a tiny bit clever and Oscar-winning.
Now for some criticisms: the console is a bit simplistic; the colours are raw and garish; the onscreen dials look like oversized Smarties. But these are mere details when set against its value-for-money credentials. –Sean Thomas

Customer Review: Budget CD copying at its best!
Wow what a great piece of software The best features of this piece of software is the cd editing features where you can take the hissing out of your old collections of cassettes and vinals! You can also edit out parts of songs you dont like, make remixes of your favourite songs and then copy it to a 80 min audio cd. It also lets you make “data” cds where you can store about 200 mp3 or wma files on a cd (but this doesnt play in some cd players) Also the Cd labeling is a nice touch to this budget software , if you want to make a really good label you are going to have to put your imagination to it. There are a few flaws to this software though the colours used in the software are a bit blunt and boring but this doesnt really affect the usage of the software in any way, this is the cream of the crop of the budget

Customer Review: Hugely Disappointing…
Purchased this unit 4 months ago and was very pleased with it: multi-region, great design, easy to use, large storage capacity. In the last 6 weeks the unit has gone from occasionally rejecting dvd-r/rws, to rejecting all blank dvds (of many varieties), to the point where it cannot even read pre-recorded dvds (and makes a horrible noise when doing so). While the hard drive still works a system error also occurs every few days. Have contacted Samsung, who were not helpful in the slightest. After a good start this product has become very disappointing. Other buyers beware that although a great unit, its longevity is dubious. At ?200+ buyers should expect more.

Customer Review: Dissapointed and Disgusted
I ordered this item on 13th January 2008,that date has most certainly been unlucky I as yet have not received the item. Amazon are still advertising the item as available and in stock, I have lost count of the amount of E Mails I have sent demanding an answer from them,I get auotomated replies from Amazon and the occasional name added to the response, but no commited answer from Amazon. They have even taken the antisipated delivery dates off my account notification. I have demanded a confirmed date, but I never get a reply. The service is disgusting,they are advertising the product still, and I have asked many times for them to send the items they are advertising as in stock,no answer!! By the way, the item they now advertise is more expensive than the item I ordered, I think that tells you something “con” is the term I would use. WHERE IS MY STUFF??????
Customer Review: Great product - highly recommended
I installed this yesterday mornining, and after one day of use I’m here writing this review. It’s easy to set up and so easy to use it’s unreal. My wife was a bit hesitant about using it to record stuff, but programming via the electronic programme guide is a sinch, after about 5secs she had the idea. It’s important to ensure that you get a NEW model, don’t buy secondhand or you could end up with having to run a firmware upgrade to make the EPG programming work properly- visit sonyeurope.com to download the firmware upgrade if you have made that mistake. Upscaling to 1080p is superb, I tried it out with Casino Royale and A Scanner Darkly. I had my neighbour round as I was trying it out, she was so gobsmacked by the quality that she decide to stay and watch for a while! This little box is a winner. The only downside is that for DATA DVDs you are limited to the DivX codec, whereas most internet downloaded TV stuff is XViD, hopefully there’s a way round that. But hey I’ve only had it a day.
