Customer Review: try another
Fine at first, then oh dear, so many problems. Not reading, not finalizing, jumping, loss of power, to name the most frequent. Before sending it back 2nd time brought a replacement one of another make. When it came back we gave it to our grown son, it gave him a small electic shock, thanks for that lite-on-it.

Customer Review: Fab Little Thing
I bought the DVD recorded about a year and half ago and haven’t looked back. I don’t know what other customers have done to their machines, but mine continues to work perfectly. The All-Write seems fine, we were lucky enough to happen on some very cheap DVD RW discs which work. Check the Lite-On website for a list of discs it likes. Having downloaded the firmware it also handles every other region very well, including the American R1 and the South East Asian R0 / region free - it even plays odd copied discs that have refused to play on my DVD player, PS2 and PC. The channel set-up was a slight hassle and since I don’t even have digital TV (just the basic 5) I wasn’t too bothered. For terrestrial analogue TV even the super-long play (6 hrs per disc) is more than adequate for playback. I can’t comment on how it handles digital TV or HD but I don’t see why they’d be a problem. The recorded discs even play on my other DVD players. It’s got Video+, it’s reliable and quiet (compared to a Playstation). The only thing that’s annoying is that you can’t edit what you’ve recorded on the machine itself, but then it is pretty cheap… and you could always do that on your PC if you were desperate. I bought it to replace a VCR and would earnestly recommend the LVW-5006 to anyone after a basic DVD recorder.

Customer Review: Common fault of switching its self off
Have had exactly same experience as others, had machine for 5 months now turns its self on and off every few seconds. 2 friends bought same machine and had same problem. Contact Sony 08705 111999 and they will give you name of nearest Sony repair firm, who will repair if within 12 month warranty. Hope this helps, frankly dissappointed that this recognised common fault does not mean an automatic replacement from manufacturers.
Customer Review: O.K. if you have never used a Humax
Potentially excellent combination of upscaling dvd player, dvd writer and freeview HDD recorder to go with my new sony LCD but I could not stand the crude way the EPG expects you to set up recordings. On my 3 year old HUMAX I set up 95% of recordings by searching for program name. To my surprise you cannot do this on the Sony - you have to laboriously go though the epg manually to find the programs. On further research (See the excellent comparison data on www.pvrjunction.co.uk) it seems that only Humax, Daewoo, and Topfield/TAPS allow searching by text. I also found the interface generally slow, and the fan noisier than I found acceptable. Had to go back!

Customer Review: Looks great but Problems Problems, PROBLEMS!
BEWARE- although this is a lovely looking player after exactly 1 year of owning its now unusable for recording. When originall bought i had to have it replaced several times before i actually recieved one that worked. Throughout its life i’ve had a few things go wrong such as locking up and having to reboot, then recording a program only to find at the end there’s nothing recorded or at least the recording is unaccessible. Not only that. the recordings are in a non-standard format therefore cannot be recognised for playing by some computer programs. Right now, even with a firmware upgrade and a factory reset it just makes RW disks unusable and just doesn’t record reliably. In fact if it does record i’m surprised and then if i try to record another title on the same disk it usually becomes unreadable on that attempt! Whats even worse is -if i lock the disc on this machine which is meant to protect the recording - it actually makes it unreadable. I PERSONALLY HAVE LOST IRREPLACEABLE FOOTAGE BECAUSE OF THIS AND ITS JUST NOT GOOD ENOUGH. overall the spec looks great on paper, its easy to use but it would be nice if it all just worked. I just hope that the other Ellion models are better designed for those who buy them. Watch out folks

This is the the queries that I have sens to ELLION, If anybody can tell how get My Ellion dvd 530s to “SEE” my Freeview settop I will be Most grateful. This is my Fifth attempt to get help from ELLION? I am trying to setup my new digital Ellion DVD-530s (PAL) Dual Recorder. I have tried to follow the manual, but find it rather lacking in detail. All my equipment have scart connectors, can you show me the best and easiest way to setup the following System. Freeview set top, VCR and a DVD-530s (PAL) dual, to PHILIPS widescreen TV. So far I’ve been able to make recordings from 4 normal transmissions, but my dvd 530s will can’t “see” my Fergison Freeview set top, therefor I am unable to make any recordings from it??? Come on, If you can’t give me an answer at least acknowledge my Emails. I am Still Waiting. Tom Lyon
