Panasonic DMR-EX95 - 250gb Hard Drive DVD Recorder & VCR Combination - With 1080P Up-Conversion & Freeview - Silver
Customer Review: Something to be aware of
I bought this item just over a month a go as an anniversary present for my parents.

After they had unwrapped it at a family gathering I plugged it all in etc but got a message of ‘HDDERR’ and the DVD just opened. Thats the sum total of my experience!!! Totally embarassing.

I researched this very carefully but had not heard of such problems but when I went surfing again, a couple of similar things cropped up with reference to the Samsung HDD disk being temperamental.

I didn’t buy it from Amazon but a company called Cheap Telly (yes, the name does rather sound iffy in hindsight). Apparently, according to Panasonic, you have got 28 days from their despatch date (not delivery date)in which you would get the unit replaced. Even thought I didn’t plug it in until the 28 days had passed they are now saying that I will have to take the unit for ‘repair’. It’s outrageous!!! My parents surprise was completely ruined and they add insult with this.

I’m still negotiating with Cheap Telly but for the price I paid (still over ?400)And because of the name of Panasonic, I expected much better things. Amazon are usually excellent in this respect from my own experience so you should have better service if you buy from them

Others here have enjoyed the unit so it may well be worth purchasing. Just beware and make sure that you check yours as early as possible as the customer service from Panasonic isn’t really what you would hope for.

Sony RDR-HX910S DVD Recorder with 250GB Hard Drive
Used Price: ?229.99
Customer Review: I bought two
I love these HDD/DVD recorders. With a huge hard disk, I just set the weeks recording on Saturday morning and then can forget it. The interface is not as intuitive as my previous Toshiba (you can’t combine recordings into one file or make copies onto the hard disk from the hard disk) so loses a star.
Customer Review: Whoever invented this wonderful machine is a genious!!
I purchased this machine as an upgrade to my DVD recorder. I wanted a hard drive with a lot of memory so I could record things when I am away from home. I am not dissapointed in any way with this! It’s so easy to use & u can record over 400hrs worth of progs!! The great function is ’synchro record’, which allows you to record with ease. This is great if you have Sky or Cable, because all you need to do is select all your progs in your tv guide to autoview and switch your box to standby-and the machine will do the rest! It records when your digibox activates a signal and there is no need to set your timer ever again! Easy!

Customer Review: Conspiracy theory!
This is too much of a coincidence. My Daewoo was absolutely fine, as per all the positive reviews until I got to just short of having it for fourteen months (last week). It has now decided to do exactly as someone else has mentioned and report that there is “no signal” and after having checked and replaced all the various connections I began to realise that I had wasted my money. It was good, if a little slow and clunky, when it worked, but now it is just a useless piece of junk that is probably going to end up in the skip. Well done, Daewoo - you saw me coming!
Customer Review: Your Cookoo to buy Daewoo!
The Daewoo DF4150 despite very little use broke beyond repair just 14 months after purchase! The DVD refusing to function at all beyond the opening and closing of the disc drawer. During the 14 months I used the machine I found the creation of DVD chapters/menus very difficult the procedure being non-logical at best. The menu screens created looked very basic and amateurish. The instruction manual was poorly written and of little help. The picture quality from VHS tape recorded onto DVD was average to poor, this I suspect being due to the poor quality of the VHS components i.e. tape heads etc. Their was also a great deal of excessive on screen noise on the play back of VHS tapes. This Daewoo has had its day!
