Philips DVDR3305/05 DVD Recorder

Philips DVDR3305/05 DVD Recorder
Customer Review: Pathetic machine- even more pathetic customer helpline
I’ve had nothing but trouble with this machine since I bought it (not from Amazon). There is at least a 40 second delay after pushing any command buttons. Nightmare when you want to record anything improptu..by the time you’ve got an empty DVD in and waited for machine to acknowledge it and then press the record button, programme is almost over!!

Now after my warranty has run out, its decided to retain one of my DVD, the deck won’t open at all. Tried the customer helpline, after the long laborious menu,it eventually tells me the tel no. has changed, tried the new number and the message tells me to ring the original number… talk about going round in a circle! must have wasted three quid

Think I’ll just buy a new DVD-recorder…certainly won’t be another Philips.

I should have read customers’ reviews on this product before

buying.

Customer Review: Disappointed
Bought mine in Nov’05…have been rather disappointed with it since. Wish I’d looked at reviews first, this item has put me off Philips products totally. My father-in-law has a dvd/video combi, the dvd refuses to play sometimes unless you give it a tap or turn it upside-down and try again.

Very awkward to use, my wife is still unable to use it to record a program as its not straight forward at all. (no disrespect to the ladies but they are not normally technical minded about these things)

Have set dvd’s to 4 hour recording, recordings are sometimes pixellated.

There is no 3 hour record mode.

Menus are awkward to navigate through.

When Pdc is ON, it will not record the program I have set to record.

When recording using Videoplus you still have to set the record mode, ie AV1, AV2,F-AV etc.

The clock doesn’t set automatically when you switch on the mains plug, you have to manually set the clock if you want to set up a timed recording.

It takes a long time to initialise when you switch it on.

I did have trouble with it freezing up.

The remote has to be pointing directly at the machine for it to work.

Good points are it records onto dvd+ or - r/rw.

Wouldnt buy another Philips product again.

Customer Review: How do you find a good harddrive?……
It wasen^t easy, but after going to many shops and hearing about the tech stuff I was very confused by it all. But a rule of thumb is more memory and easy to use is best!. Then buy this cause its got alot of memory 250gbs and its easy menus are a plus, and it has usb at front which is great, and conections at back which is many, and picture is brillant and it even upgrades pictures/movies tranfered by usb data clip. It has multy input ie….scarts*2…and it does not have freeview - Which is good because you dont have to buy and fit a new areial on roof just to get it to work!. It works well with skybox and video recorders and surcurity camaras and anything you plug into it!. EXCELENT product great memory easy to use works well…only complaint would be plastic front pull out for conections looks abit fragile, and hinges mite give in time, But if its fine when you get it then if your carefull it will be alright.
Customer Review: Easy Interface & well-featured
Looking is so cool and better than any other brands. Easy to navigate set-up and other operation menus and once you go around all menus once, you will get the hang of it. Software is designed quite user-friendly. It has also got good compatibility on Divx discs and all Divx discs with .avi files have been well played. Excellent connections such as HDMI out, Scarts, DV in etc give you variety of choices when you connect the DVR-960E with different AV products. It deserves a five star as it is reasonably priced for such premium features including a 250GB HDD.

Customer Review: Good apart from hdmi
This recorder was fine until I decided to use hdmi. Once I had bought the hdmi cale (not supplied) a few days after using/buying this product I noticed a huge problem. Syncing was well out between lips and sound. This only occurs when using the hdmi cable, which kind of defeats the purpose of paying the premium for having an hdmi connection. It was so bad it’s like watching a badly dubbed Chinese Karate film from the 80’s. Using the composite was fine, no sync problems whatsoever. In general it was a decent recorder (I returned mine and bought a different brand) let down badly by the hdmi problem. Like I say it’s fine if you dont use this, but you are paying a premium for the advertised hdmi socket, and why bother paying this if you dont intend to use it? My advice is to buy a different product. A firmware update id not fix the issue.

Customer Review: Not a review, but more of a comment
The statement by nigelr isnt quite correct, you will of course be able to record digital signals from a set top box or a satalite box after the analogue signals are switched off, so it wont be obsolete, what it does mean is that you will not be able to watch one channel and recorde another as you can do with a video now.
Customer Review: No Freeview
I haven’t got one, but must point out that this recorder only has an analogue tuner, so it has poor picture quality and will be completely obsolete within 1-4 years (depending on where you live). Quite alarmed that Amazon are selling it without making this clear.
