Philips DVDR3590 - 250Gb Hard Drive DVD Recorder
with One Touch Pause Live TV freezes the action instantly
Customer Review: Avoid!!
Ill get straight to the point, this is an AWFUL bit of kit, its painfully slow, records only when it feels like it and even then if it does record what you want it may just decide to randomly delete it at any time. Its also quite prone to freezing if you ask something complicated like changing channel to quickly. Oh and finally the picture quality is honestly so poor i don’t know how it passed quality control!!
Customer Review: Dont buy it - Period!
I bought the Belgian version of this device as it was on special offer, and 100 Euro cheaper than the Samsung one with the same spec. When I got it home i found out why. It crashes at the drop of a hat and having spent half a day trying to upgrade the firmware (I’m an electronics engineer so its not me!) I gave up. The hardware is fine and the build quality is good but without decent firmware its no better than an expensive paperweight. Ironically I bought it to replace a PC system as my wife was complaining that it was too unreliable. You dont need the hassle - honestly!
If you think you are safe buying Philips - don’t, they are no better than any taiwanese no-name brand these days I’m sorry to say. No less sorry for them being the first company I worked for.

Customer Review: Great machine - when it works!
Got one of these bought for my birthday. After 6 months it had to have a whole new DVD drive fitted - wouldn’t play or record anything! 6 months later it started to malfunction AGAIN. COMET sent it back to their repaire shop and told us to choose something else instead!! Am opting for a Panasonic DMR E727EBK instead and hope this is a better option. Very disappointing from an industry leader like samsung - but excellent service from Comet!
Customer Review: Effecient and Simple
I recently purchased this DVD Recorder as a second to an existing more expensive JVC model. The Samsung was easy to setup straight from the box and within minutes I had all the TV channels and my CCTV system linked in and working. Recording to HDD is easy although the system does not support an OverWrite feature on repeat (Daily/Weekly) recordings which is a shame. Navigation around titles is easy once you have found the ANYKEY (seriously!) and the copy to DVD is both quick and easy to operate. Editing facilities are basic but again easy to use and playback quality is good. If you need a good value for money machine with easy to use basic features or a second machine for basic duties look no further than the Samsung.
