Samsung Multi Format DVD Recorder DVD-R149/XEU
Fantastic value dvd recorder from Samsung
Customer Review: Samsung DVD R149/XEU
I have had two examples of this recorder. The first one turned itself off at random when viewing a pre-recorded disc. It wouldn’t record on ram disc using the timer. It would not format ram discs but kept coming up with ‘System error is found’, accompanied by a loud buzzing sound, after exactly 10% of the disc had been formatted. The machine locked up after this and had to be unplugged to reset it.
Hughes direct sent me a replacement. This had almost exactly the same faults. It didn’t turn off as often as the first one. Their technical dept sent me a firmware update which did nothing except cause less loud buzzing when the formatting error came up after 10%.
I shall be contacting Hughes about this shortly. I have to say Hughes have been very easy to deal with and I am sure the matter will shortly be resolved.
Generally picture quality was good, better on the first machine I had but still good on both machines. Remote was good and had lots of easy to use features. It is just a pity about the randon switch off and the inability to timer record on ram disc. It will play ram discs made on my Panasonic recorder.

Sharp DV-RW260H DVD Recorder / VCR Combination

Customer Review: Quality - Sharp DVRW260H
Ive had my Sharp DVRW260H for a few months now. Im very impressed with the picture performance. The Progressive scan output puts many DVD recorders of a higher value to shame. And the normal picture output featurs 500 lines of res, which is an improvement on what I have used in the past The best bit (And most usefull in my line of work) is the ability to copy from VCR to DVD or DVD to VCR at the touch of a button. Making a DVD of all your home movies is a doddle. The only thing I can fault this on is that the Free Scart Lead in the box. It should be discarded striaght away. Its cheap and horrid and in my case caused picture problems. Ive popped into currys and got a Monster (thats the make) Scart lead and this really shows what the Sharp is capable of. This is a Recomended Product as far as Im concerned
Customer Review: Sharp DV-RW260H
Potential buyers should be aware that this is region 2 player only and no hack is available. Therefore DVD playback is restricted and in particular excludes any disc from the USA and many from the Far East. Also the requirements for DVD recording is very presciptive which means that one has to be extremely careful when purchasing blanks. The performance of the VCR is good but the DVD playback is no better than that of many players which can be purchased at only a fraction of the cost

Customer Review: After 4 months
Still delighted with this. Yes it’s a shame it doesn’t have two tuners, and USB would be better than SD (which I don’t use), I can’t get it to read MP3 from a DVD-RW, and I agree it would be nice to be able to record two things at once (I can’t help pushing things). But considering how flexible it is, it is fairly easy to drive, the quality is good and excellent value. It’s playing my CDs (including the MP3s), archiving my old VHS tapes to DVD (trimmed & tidied), and regularly used in ‘chasing playback’ mode to skip commercials and pause the TV.
Customer Review: Quality Piece of Kit
I have had one for a week, and I am very pleased with it. The build quality is very high. It was a surprise to see it was made in Slovakia, which is not a country I associate with high-tech manufacture. Maybe it is time to change my perception of that land. It is a boon to have so much in one box, DVD, VHS, HDD, Freeview, even an SD card slot. It has done away with three machines, and cut down on the snake’s honeymoon of mains, ariel and scart leads. This is a good way of justifying the expense to a houseproud partner! It is fairly easy to use. The instructions are easy to follow, and it has ‘contextual intelligence’. By that I mean, if you insert a pre-recorded DVD, it assumes you want to play it, if you insert an SD card, it asks if you want a slide show or to copy photos to the HDD. One potential problem with this machine is that it only has one tuner. If your TV is analog and you aren’t planning to upgrade it before the switch off, you will lose the facility to watch something and record something else when they switch off the analog transmitters. You have to be a bit canny to make sure you are future proof. I am OK with it, my telly has integral freeview. It can copy to and from any of its drives, but will not touch copy protected stuff like pre-recorded DVDs and tapes. I am happy with the machine. I would say its main facilities are the ‘all in one’ nature, the quality and the huge HDD.

Customer Review: Excellent piece of kit for the money
As you would expect from Panasonic an excellent item for the money. Very nice to look at. I bought this unit to replace a VHS recorder. Object was to site this at main tv in living room, record to dvd / hdd. This would let me watch the recorded dvds in kitchen equipped with dvd player. Recording is easy using the EPG (and it’s a good EPG) or timer setup. It has audio output so it can be linked to speakers. As already pointed out, and in common with most digital recorders, you can start watching whatever you’re recording whilst you’re recording. Why bother? You can skip the ads! Instructions are good. If you want to use it for similar reasons, buy some +RW disks and follow the instructions re making a Top Menu on the disks.
Customer Review: EXCELLENT MACHINE
This recorder is everything you would want in a dvd recorder.ignore the negative comments on this recorder, they are from idiots who believed they were getting a twin tuner with this, which has been very well pointed out by other reviewers that you only get this feature in japan.the simple way around this so called problem is to buy a set top freeview box for as little as ?15 and problem solved.this recorder is very simple to use and you can pick it up without even reading the instructions.it has all the usual features and transfer from hard disc to dvd disc is fast speed.you can record to hard disc and watch a recording from hard disc at the same time which i did not expect.this recorder is so good i would buy a second one if i could find use for it.if your after a good quality machine that does as it claims this is for you.
