Customer Review: Suspect Quality Issues
I have now had 2 of these. The first one failed to accept any pre-recorded discs and was tempremental. Amazon replaced it straight away but the replacement started skiping and locking up when replaying HDD recordings and refused to copy to discs. Amazon refunded in full. We are now probably going to get the more modern RDRHXD870B and give that a go. The HX725 manual is huge and not too good, but if you’re reasonably competent you should be OK…
Customer Review: Excellent machine
I’ve had it for less than 10 days but so far I’m delighted. Getting around the handbook took a couple of days. It’s very confusing but everything concerning the DVD recorder operation is there. Hooking up with a cable set top box with two SCART connectors (Sky, Virgin) was not explicit in the handbook. Most of my problems were how ever solved once I browsed the GuidePlus website at http://www.europe.guideplus.com/. I don’t have much time to continue this review but if you’re really cracking your head send me an email to gabrielmoren@gmail.com, I’ll be happy to help.

Customer Review: Early days yet…but initial impressions poor.
Had my 970′ unit delivered to a neighbours house as I was out last week… She told me she had been also been out when it was delivered and later found it on the garden side of her six foot fence (with no access gate) sitting on its side in a huge ornamental flower pot ! I am frankly amazed that a ?300 (and very fragile) item could be handled so carelessly and now I’m just waiting for it to break down. Performance, well, so far unimpressed, the freeview tuner is poor and cannot pick up, previously perfect ITV1 and C4 channels. My Samsung TV does not automatically switch over to it when wanting to watch a recording from DVD or HDD (does anyone know how to solve this?)and upscaling even with progressive scan setting to ‘on’ is no better than my replaced ?29.00 Philips DVD player! Only redeeming feature is ’series recording’. Moral of the story…. stay in for delivery and consider carefully whether you think a Sony branded, Pioneer recorder is really worth this kind of money.
Customer Review: Can a black box change your life?
I bought this after a bad experience with a Sony 860 (which went back), so I approached this machine with some trepidation. The previous machine had great facilities, but just didn’t work very well (poor sound, switched itself on and off etc!). Happily, this is a wonderful piece of kit and brilliant value for the money. Recordings to the HDD drive are superb (especially in HQ), and the EPG and series link work well. Setting programmes to record is so easy and dubbing to DVD is also simple and fast. Reviewing what has been recorded is a breeze; the recording list has thumbnails which play excerpts to remind you what the programme contains, as well as the programme title, time it was recorded, channel (BBC1..) etc.! Being able to start watching a recording before it has finished and the ease and fuss-free operation actually changes the way you watch TV. Also, it is a great DVD player and the upscaling via the HDMI link makes standard DVDs look near ‘HD’ quality. What’s not to like?

Customer Review: Looks great but Problems Problems, PROBLEMS!
BEWARE- although this is a lovely looking player after exactly 1 year of owning its now unusable for recording. When originall bought i had to have it replaced several times before i actually recieved one that worked. Throughout its life i’ve had a few things go wrong such as locking up and having to reboot, then recording a program only to find at the end there’s nothing recorded or at least the recording is unaccessible. Not only that. the recordings are in a non-standard format therefore cannot be recognised for playing by some computer programs. Right now, even with a firmware upgrade and a factory reset it just makes RW disks unusable and just doesn’t record reliably. In fact if it does record i’m surprised and then if i try to record another title on the same disk it usually becomes unreadable on that attempt! Whats even worse is -if i lock the disc on this machine which is meant to protect the recording - it actually makes it unreadable. I PERSONALLY HAVE LOST IRREPLACEABLE FOOTAGE BECAUSE OF THIS AND ITS JUST NOT GOOD ENOUGH. overall the spec looks great on paper, its easy to use but it would be nice if it all just worked. I just hope that the other Ellion models are better designed for those who buy them. Watch out folks
Customer Review: help with Ellion 530s
This is the the queries that I have sens to ELLION, If anybody can tell how get My Ellion dvd 530s to “SEE” my Freeview settop I will be Most grateful. This is my Fifth attempt to get help from ELLION? I am trying to setup my new digital Ellion DVD-530s (PAL) Dual Recorder. I have tried to follow the manual, but find it rather lacking in detail. All my equipment have scart connectors, can you show me the best and easiest way to setup the following System. Freeview set top, VCR and a DVD-530s (PAL) dual, to PHILIPS widescreen TV. So far I’ve been able to make recordings from 4 normal transmissions, but my dvd 530s will can’t “see” my Fergison Freeview set top, therefor I am unable to make any recordings from it??? Come on, If you can’t give me an answer at least acknowledge my Emails. I am Still Waiting. Tom Lyon
