Customer Review: Returned 3 units under warranty in one month - now on number 4
The 3 returned units either did not record on a DVD+R or did not play a VCR properly: the VCR picture kept breaking up.

The unit I have now seems to work. However I cannot recommend this model for obvious reasons.

Customer Review: Promises more than it delivers
I bought this unit when my AIWA VCR died. I want to be able to transfer mini-DV to DVD, record onto DVD from TV and play my video collection.

First off, the VCR playback quality is surprisingly poor. I just wouldn’t use this unit to transfer a video to DVD - you might as well just buy the DVD second-hand. Also, the picture you see with video playback is the digitised image, so you get the combination of video distortion with digital distortion. I have also experienced the poor auto-tracking that the other user mentioned. So, this part is a major disappointment.

DVD recording from TV seems to be fine. However, one annoying thing is that it gives you multiple recording quality options, but doesn’t tell you how much time you can record for using a particular quality. So you end up guessing. Secondly, when I record onto DVD-RW, I can’t fast-forward or backward with the picture, sound or even timer. You just have to guess when to press play and see where it drops you back. Haven’t yet tried transferring from mini-DV.

In summary, I’m a bit disappointed by this unit. I’m seriously considering buying a second-hand VCR to watch my videos on, which kind of defeats the object of buying it in the first place.

Customer Review: Very reliable at such bargained price
It looks so smart with slim size cabinet and can fit anywhere so nicely. The 250GB HDD capacity just gives me peace of mind on storage capacity of recorded TV contents as I know that I could be able to store so many hours of contents into HDD section not having to worry about copying onto DVDs from time to time. Timer-recording has worked out well without having missed any single scheduled ones and copying from HDD to DVD has performed well. Nicely built-in connections such as two scarts in & out, Componnets, Audio and Video. Picture quality is excellent. I am 100% convinced that it must be a excellent choice in terms of price, quality, design etc. I have never seen any smart-looking branded recorders like this and they all look like bricks compared to this.
Customer Review: The best thing I have ever bought
I came across Ellion when I was looking for an HD/DVD recorder. The leading makes were too expensive and the Ellion was the right price, had the required functions - a big hard drive capacity, numerous recording facilities, timeslip etc - and looked great. I’ve had one for around 18 months and I wouldn’t be without it. At first, I started using the timeslip function regularly, until a friend who bought one on my recommendation told me that you can watch a ‘live’ recording from the start. This meant that you were watching something while it was recording and it was permanently stored on the hard drive, unlike timeslip, which merely stores the programme in a temporary cache. I once accidentally hit the stop button on the remote while watching a timeslip recording and lost it forever. Remember, timeslip enables you to use pause or rewind/fast forward, but not stop; that literally erases the recording. By recording conventionally, the programme is always on the hard drive. It just takes a while to figure it out. Otherwise, the Ellion is a seriously brilliant piece of kit. Great looks, great functions, great price. For a manufacturer that isn’t one of the ‘big boys’ they deserve a lot of credit.

Customer Review: Good but not perfect
Everything works as specified but… 1. DVD drive is noisy when playing and recording, I can sometimes hear the motor noise over quiet parts in a film which is annoying. 2. The layer change pause on purchased films is very long, much worse than my older Sony DVD player. 3. On screen menus and graphics are not consistent between all features, it appears Panasonic have thrown together the software from some of their other products into this box. 4. The DTT guide has no search. 5. Remote control could be simpler, several buttons have very similar functions.
Customer Review: disappointing …
Already have a Panasonic hard-drive dvd recorder (EX75)downstairs, and it’s superb. I bought the EZ47 for the bedroom, and also because I wanted to transfer some of my videos onto dvd. Disappointed for 2 reasons: 1. It suddenly bursts into life in the middle of the night, whirring away for several seconds and waking us both up. I can’t find any apparent reason for this. 2. Although it boasts no loss of picture quality when transferring from video onto dvd, the fact is that if you watch any video on a lovely new flatscreen tv - the picture quality is rubbish anyway. The dvd copies are therefore rubbish as well. I hadn’t realised this before, having only watched dvds on the flatscreen. Video is very old-tec now,and doesn’t stand up to the new tv technology. This copying function was therefore a waste of time for me, as video-quality film is unwatchable on my telly.
