Customer Review: Switches off every 5-10 minutes - stay away from this!
It is too late for me to return the product to Amazon, but I will see what I can do with the Sony customer services. I have used it for a month and, with a few minor problems, it has worked OK for 3 weeks. In the last week, however, it keeps switching off VERY frequently. It does so when I watch TV and also when I am watching TV. On the TV, it freezes for a few minutes, so you lose 5 minutes every time it switches off - frozen image, switch off, switch on again and bring it back to the right channel.

I am going back to my cheap freeview box + dvd player. If I cannot return the dvd recorder, I will only use it for the occasional recording, but then it is far too expensive for this!

Customer Review: Sony DVD recorder just keeps powering off
Bought this recorder in March 2007. Initially thought it was fantastic but after a few weeks started powering off at random times. This week, despite putting everything to the factory defaults I am now trying to return it to Amazon. It can be ok and then will power off and try to restart. My wife has missed loads of programmes and is not happy. We have loads of Sony gear, telly, camcorder etc and always thought Sony was great. First Sony product I have had which has been faulty (replaced a Sony video recorder which was brilliant) I think I am being harsh but I expect a really high standard from Sony - might have expected this from some unknown brand.

Customer Review: Unreliable
I have had and returned 2 of these. At first worked well, but in both cases after several months became suddenly unable to change channels, ie turned into a god DVD player & useless recorder. have changed to another brand
Customer Review: Daewoo DR-2100P
Opened the box, connected the cables supplied and the machine done what it was supposed to do. I found it to be very “User Friendly” unlike the previous Philips DVD Recorder I had. Setup was amazingly easy, recording and playback was very good. Only a couple of irritating points,(a) the DVD drawer is very flimsy, could be made substantially stronger, (b) although adequate, some form of illuminated bar would be helpful to allow you to see what progress the disc is making, (c) the push buttons on the remote control a tad on the small size. All in all a good machine at a good price.

Customer Review: dvd recording for scaredy cats
Well ,I finally took the plunge and bought a dvd recorder to transfer old family video before they disintigrate(and my little 70s pop combo vids. but thats another story. This machine looks like a twin cd drive but isn`t. Being a guy , reading the instructions was not an option and we were up and running in minutes. Stupidly, I didn`t realise that I had to finalise the disc to make it usable in other machines…ok I read the instructions a bit…. Buy with confidence.Good quality, extended play and auto chapter marking make this a breeze.

Customer Review: If only it did what it says on he box!
Sadly I must confirm the two first reviews, and can only offer “Mike30″ my congratulations on finding one of these products that works properly. Mine wouldn’t record from the timer. At first I thought it was me, but after about four weeks of useage I felt I was sufficiently familiar with the unit to conclude that the problem was with the product, not me! Samsung asked me to deliver it to the local appointed service agent, which I did. I was told by staff there that this is a common problem and that many units suffer the same fault. Repairs require a replacement part which needs ordering from Japan, and will take about a week to arrive… Oh dear, If only I’d read these reviews first!
Customer Review: One of the best products I bought in ages.
I have now played with this unit for a very short period in under a week and now seem to understand basically everything I need to know about recording and playing DVDs, very easy to use. Using the EPG guide for recording I can say I have had no problems what-so-ever, each page refreshes very quickly with no problems. I cannot understand how some people blame the unit for picture quality when in fact it is their own reception. Check you’re aerial. Using the recording function to DVD and playing it back I had no problems but would say you must use the correct DVD -R/RW otherwise you will not be able to finalizing your DVD for other DVD players to play. The TV turner upscale to 1080i onto your LCD TV and picture quality is second to none. There is a wide range of recording formats to use for recording. Tip for best play back use XP for recording to hard drive. I have no regrets what-so-ever in buying this product and would recommend this to anyone.
