Customer Review: Poor Sony Product & Very poor Company Support
I am on my third machine, none of which have been any good. The third machine

received July 2007 has been back to the authorised repairer five times. In twelve months I have less than 3 months use out of it. The main problem was the machine switching on and off as per other reviews. The repairers have replaced many parts and I am currently waiting for the repairer to receive a

printed circuit board to rectify the problem. I have no faith that this will completely solve the problem. DO NOT expect any help or consideration from

the Customer Service section of SONY UK. The machine has been with the repairer since 26 October 2007 and is still there now. BUY one at your peril

prepare to be disappointed.

Customer Review: Common fault of switching its self off
Have had exactly same experience as others, had machine for 5 months now turns its self on and off every few seconds.

2 friends bought same machine and had same problem.

Contact Sony 08705 111999 and they will give you name of nearest Sony repair firm, who will repair if within 12 month warranty.

Hope this helps, frankly dissappointed that this recognised common fault does not mean an automatic replacement from manufacturers.

Samsung DVD-HR730 - Multi- Region DVD Recorder With 80Gb Hard Drive
Used Price: ?179.99
Customer Review: Great machine - when it works!
Got one of these bought for my birthday. After 6 months it had to have a whole new DVD drive fitted - wouldn’t play or record anything! 6 months later it started to malfunction AGAIN. COMET sent it back to their repaire shop and told us to choose something else instead!! Am opting for a Panasonic DMR E727EBK instead and hope this is a better option. Very disappointing from an industry leader like samsung - but excellent service from Comet!
Customer Review: Effecient and Simple
I recently purchased this DVD Recorder as a second to an existing more expensive JVC model. The Samsung was easy to setup straight from the box and within minutes I had all the TV channels and my CCTV system linked in and working. Recording to HDD is easy although the system does not support an OverWrite feature on repeat (Daily/Weekly) recordings which is a shame. Navigation around titles is easy once you have found the ANYKEY (seriously!) and the copy to DVD is both quick and easy to operate. Editing facilities are basic but again easy to use and playback quality is good. If you need a good value for money machine with easy to use basic features or a second machine for basic duties look no further than the Samsung.

Ellion DVR-960E 250GB HDD DVD Recorder with HDMI output & USB input
Amazon Price: ?159.99
Customer Review: Good DVD player, but functions are poor.
Ok let’s start with the good points. 1) It’s a sleak design. 2) The playback of the player is good. Multi formats with no problems. 3) Recording from television is relatively easy. 4) Setting it up is real easy. This is where the manual actually DOES help! 5) Great price for what you get. OK bad points. 1) Forget about the instruction manual, it’s near useless. 2) Copying from DVD to HDD is non-existent. Try as I may I cannot get the Edit menu to appear. 3) The remote control is poorly designed with tiny buttons. Don’t try giving this to your parents! 4) The player is unresponsive. Hitting the eject button will get you nowhere until the player has powered up & disc has loaded. 5) Switching off the DVD midway through a film will result in it starting from the beginning when you next hit the play button. It does not restart at the same point, which most DVD players do. 6) Finally, don’t even consider e-mailing the Ellion help desk. I’ve asked them about the DVD to HDD problem 4 weeks ago & all I got was a “we’ll get back to you” message. So in conclusion, my advice is that it’s good for the price, but don’t expect it to do what it says it will do!!
Customer Review: Not Good
Got through two of these machines before deciding to spend my money on something more reliable. The first machine gave constant interference problems on my TV. I got horizontal lines moving down the screen and no amount of scart lead swapping or changing made any difference. Amazon very good in dealing with a replacement. The replacement was obviously correctly working re the above problem - good picture quality and all functions seemed OK but as mentioned by someone else, the utterly flimsy DVD drawer cover was broken on arrival! No way to fix as the hinge was made of puny plastic and clearly a very weak point. Although not affecting the operation of the machine once a disk was loaded, it got in the way when trying to open or close the drawer. Sent it back for a refund - again, excellent service from Amazon. Ellion could learn something there! In my experience, not recommended - you get what you paid for. Ellion are unkown for a reason.
