Customer Review: Common fault of switching its self off
Have had exactly same experience as others, had machine for 5 months now turns its self on and off every few seconds. 2 friends bought same machine and had same problem. Contact Sony 08705 111999 and they will give you name of nearest Sony repair firm, who will repair if within 12 month warranty. Hope this helps, frankly dissappointed that this recognised common fault does not mean an automatic replacement from manufacturers.
Customer Review: O.K. if you have never used a Humax
Potentially excellent combination of upscaling dvd player, dvd writer and freeview HDD recorder to go with my new sony LCD but I could not stand the crude way the EPG expects you to set up recordings. On my 3 year old HUMAX I set up 95% of recordings by searching for program name. To my surprise you cannot do this on the Sony - you have to laboriously go though the epg manually to find the programs. On further research (See the excellent comparison data on www.pvrjunction.co.uk) it seems that only Humax, Daewoo, and Topfield/TAPS allow searching by text. I also found the interface generally slow, and the fan noisier than I found acceptable. Had to go back!

Customer Review: Best gadget so far
This is by far the best gadget I have bought so far. Was looking for a means of sending mp3 and avi direct from my computer to my tv/amp via wireless in a different room. The house I am in has very thick walls and I was concerned however, I have a very good signal and getting good quality avi files and mp3 direct to tv. No flickering and very easy to install. Recommend this item.

Customer Review: This could be Sanyo
Having previously owned a sanyo dvd recorder I could not help noticing that some of the worst features of the Sanyo has been taken over by Philips. The machine so far has been ok although I am not happy with the fact that it does not give you an option regarding initializing discs which will mean that in time it will not instantly recognise an already recorded disc and go straight into initialising thereby erasing a dvd. Like the Sanyo this machine will not allow you to record on any disc that has already been recorded on another machine. The disc menu only shows three titles at a time, again just like Sanyo, but the most annoying feature shared with the Sanyo is the lack of any display in the video mode as to how much recording time is left on a tape,A feature that was standard on the later VCR machines. There was one feature that surprised me and that was the fact that it was not possible to pause recording in dubbing mode, but then i discovered by trial and error that the append disc feature works in the dubbing mode on this machine, which at last is a plus NOT Like the Sanyo.
