Customer Review: Great picture, good looking set, poor service
Having agonised over which TV to buy I finally opted for this giant from Samsung. First decision was LCD or Plasma. I got very close to a 1080p LCD (Samsung again) but the skin tones let it down and also it didn’t perform so well on standard definition (SD) material. Decided to look at Panasonic and Samsung Plasmas and very little to choose between them except you got bigger screen for your money with Samsung. Having got it home I was very impressed with picture on Freeview (built in) and on DVD via the SCART (RGB) connection. Havn’t got any HDMI kit yet so cannot comment on its performance with upscaling although that is next on the list! However one serious gripe has occured. I have an external audio/video switching unit (Pioneer receiver) and as the Samsung sound (and in deed most TV’s) do not have good speakers in them I wanted to use an external receiver and speakers. To keep quality high I choose to use the optical audio output from the Samsung. Immediately I noticed dropouts on the audio. I called Samsung and they said “it must be my receiver or optical cable”. They recommended I by a good quality cable. So ?45 later I have a new optical cable and still audio dropouts. Being a bit of an engineer I decided to measure the optical audio stream with a meter on another bit of audio kit. Sure enough the audio was dropping from the TV (not the cable or reciever). I then browsed the AV forums and found that this is a common fault with Samsung Q/C 96/97 series TV’s! Called Samsung again and they ordered an engineer to contact me. To cut a long story short he said Samsung were aware of the issue but do not consider it very important! A Firmware revision “may follow at some point in the future”……not very impressive! Make your own mind up about whether that is good customer service! If you do not wantg to use digital audio out from the TV this is an excellent set but if you think you may want to improve audio at some point avoid all Samsungs in the Q/C 96 and 97 series.

Customer Review: Super product at a market leading price
I have had excellent results with this product i picked up all the same channels as i did with my house aerial. This product is well packaged and easy to use, the remote control is a useful addition. Coming up to Christmas at this price it makes it an ideal stocking filler !
Customer Review: Digital TV stick
Maybe my signal area isn’t too hot but i found this piece of kit to be pretty bad. I couldn’t pick up alot of channels that i thought would be a given. I couldn’t get any of channel 4’s catalogue other than e4+1 and i struggled with ITV’s armoury too. I often had drop outs and annoyingly long freezes, whilst my digibox in the room next door worked perfectly. the little arial it comes with is a joke. anyone that tells you they get a picture with that sorry excuse for an arial is a joker too. The remote control is about as convenient as getting up off of your comfy chair and using your mouse, which doesn’t give using the mouse enough credit. I ended up returning mine after a week, after feeling that there could be better products on the market. There were. I exchanged mine for a KV World PCI option, which instantly picked up every channel in a quater of the time and came with a fantastic remote control (and receiver too). I’m now able to sit anywhere and shut my PC down with this remote. Very usefull. No signal drop outs and no problem scanning. I wouldn’t recomend this knowing there are other options that are much better on the market. I never tried the recording with the Freecom DVB USB stick but with the constant drop outs it didn’t seem worth it.

Customer Review: CRASH-REBOOT
This product produces very good tv images and was relatively straightforward to set up,however, it has kept crashing my laptop running XP and despite firmware updates the problem hasn’t been ameliorated.
Customer Review: Not vista compatible, despite the website saying so
First i’d like to say, do not pay the rediculous prices someone has this item on for. I paid ?15 for mine from tesco, they are not worth ?90+ Second, the website has a zipped file which contains “everything you need to get this item running on vista” Rubbish. I tried countless times…nothing. On XP i have seen this work great with an external ariel though. So ir you have a compatible OS, this is a good item

Customer Review: Great tv/Great value
Recieved on time[good old amazon], took just 10 minutes to set up it is fantastic, at present on analog[no freeview in my area]the picture is outstanding with just my rooftop arial, should have got one a long time ago, would recomend to anyone with a PC and no tv card, just plug in and it’s all systems go.
Customer Review: But be careful with Vista
The product worked fine on my Dell with XP as its operating system. I had to connect the main house aerial but thereafter picked up 66 channels. However when I tried to use it with my new computer (also Dell) it gave a great picture but corrupted the DVD driver such that it disappeared. I had to restore to prior to the software installation. The remote control would not work either. The lesson is that the software is just not compatible with Vista and this was confirmed by the Freecom. If you have Vista or expect to upgrade in the fore-seeable future then do not buy this product.
