Panasonic DMR-ES10EB-S DVD RAM Disc Recorder
Customer Review: Broke twice, and slow!
I’m on the my second player, and about to return it to get another!!! Yes, it’s broken again. The first one died after about 2-3 months, as it didn’t want to read any dvd. It didn’t matter if it was a dvd-rw, dvd-r or a brand new dvd. I got it swapped in the shop I bought it from. This one has been fine for many months, but now it’s doing the same. It is saying that dvd’s are unformatted, when they are not. I format them again, and it comes with the same message. It’s also starting to get picky over what it wants to play, and this includes purchased films. It’s also slow. From off to record takes over a minute. From off to play is about the same time. It’s very slow. Also, if you are watching a film, and you turn the player off, then it goes back to the very start. Not like most players which stop half way. I would recommend getting a dvd recorder with a hard disk, as you don’t have the issues of dvd’s getting scratched, and the player only wanting to use bits of the dvd. I had been putting up with it being slow, but now it’s just annoying. I wish I had spent my money on something else, and I’m very disappointed as it’s such a good make. Don’t buy this one. You also can’t edit dvd’s before you finalise them (dvd-r), so you can’t add chapters. And it does a check at about 3am if you put it on quickstart mode, which is very noisy, and has woken me up before I turned this function off!!
Customer Review: Good but…….
I was very pleased with this at first, the picture quality on long-play is very good except for Football and boxing. Any fast sports and the picture pixillates. Sports should be recorded on short-play which gives 2 hours and long enough for most football except where there’s extra time(World Cup!). If something good comes on and I want to tape it, I can’t just bung in a cd, it has to be formatted and this is annoying! To be honest vcr tapes had a lot of bonuses in terms of being user friendly, bung it in, press record, don’t like that? bit-wipe it! I will eventually buy a hard drive recorder.

Customer Review: Terribley Complicated Player
We have had our DVD Recorder for about 5 months now and I must say, its the most difficult piece of technology I have EVER come across. I must admit I am usualy a bit of a technogeek when it comes to things like this, and have them figured out in 10 minutes, but this player/recorder has made me surrender… and I loathe it.. probley because its defeated me. Still to this day cannot get it connected up how I want it. Followed the instructions down to a T, done exactley what it says with the correct cables.. yet it fails to record with my cable box. I have just been fiddling about with it this afternoon, and managed to get it to record spongebob squarepants of all things.. it won’t let me play it back now though!! With it connected how the intructions showed me, its made the picture quality of my cable tv slightly fuzzy and on the DVD player menu and when playing a dvd, theres very heavy ghosting going on.. this annoys the hell out of me. If you enjoy over rated, difficult to understand technology, if not.. I recommend LG, Sony ect.
Customer Review: Philips comes good
I received this DVDR as a replacement for a previous Philips model DVDR which had crashed after a couple of years with a known software glitch. I was somewhat hesitant to deal with Philips after this bad experience, especially as I had to pay approx ?80 for the privilege, but I have no regrets. A new DVDR of this quality would have cost much more and the old one was not repairable. This uprated DVD is a faultless performer, is more user-friendly than its predecessor and can be changed to being region-free in a few easy moves (at no cost and without CDs or software downloads). Soooooooooo simple, I’d need to have been a moron not to be able to do it. Now I can watch films I’d waited half a lifetime to view because they’re only available for Region 1. I have it linked to a freeview box also with its own recordable hard drive and think I have the best combo without selling my soul to Sky+.

Customer Review: Can a machine be more UN-user friendly?
This machine is truly dreadful. It is slow and very complicated to use. Even a professional I had to call to look at it gave up! I have wasted so many DVD-RW disks because despite the book saying it is DVD-RW compatible it so obviously isnt unless it is a particular brand - the most expensive (what a surprise!). The machine is going back for a refund! Can’t get rid of it quick enough! 0/10
Customer Review: Hmmmmm
This is now the third unit i have had and this one has now gone faulty. The sound from this unit is terrible. The picture from this unit occasionally goes to a blue tint. The unit is VERY Noisy. In fact i’m sure my warranty is not yet up so I think i will replace this one. In other words avoid buying this!!
