Customer Review: tomtom one GB
This thing works a dream and all for ?99. I am now burning all my maps and cancelling the divorce from my wife. What are you waiting for stop reading and buy one. BRILLIANT
Customer Review: Good product
I had a previous TT which was bulkier and cost over ?500 so when it was stolen got this one as a replacement, amazed to pay a lot less this time, for what is an improved product. Still user-friendly, you can use this straight out of the box. My wife borrowed it and I did not have to give her any instructions. The mount is not as sturdy as the early version and in cold weather can be a problem to stick to screen. I drive 30k miles a year and using this have hardly ever had a problem getting to clients, the biggest one is when the house has a name and not a number, in this case the post code will get you within yards of your destination. Neither have I been routed the wrong way down a one-way street although it has directed me up some scary B roads in the country, much to the amusement of farmers who must be getting used to Reps being redirected past their fields on a short cut, use your common sense and stick to the A roads and you will be fine. I have learned my lesson about leaving this on display in the car, and now it is removed when I leave, it can fit in your shirt pocket for when you have to visit the Services, and fits easily in your briefcase as it is a lot less bulky than the previous version. Have not used the traffic alerts or anything fancy. Recommended if you want a simple no-frills machine.

Customer Review: Tom Tom 520 great - less sure about Traffic
I’ve had the 520T for 6 months now. It was my first Sat Nav and I’m very pleased. The main device is very easy to use and has been genuinely helpful, even though I rarely drive long distance without a passenger. The plug-in traffic aerial only gives information on major roads like motorways and hasn’t always been accurate, so next time I’d get just the 520 without Traffic (Tom Tom are bringing a new Traffic add-on to the UK next year, which promises to be much better, though more expensive). I’d give the 520 itself five stars and the current Traffic aerial two stars, hence four overall.
Customer Review: Misleading, Very Poor Software, Oh and a Car Crash
I simply must write to advise people to seriously consider purchasing one of these, especially for anyone a) not computer literate, or b) a relatively new driver. My partner has been driving 6 months now and had mentioned a few times, despite my trying to convince her to learn to map read, that she wanted sat nav, which culminated in her getting upset at getting lost for a couple of hours one night. Anyway, I bought this product on the back of rationalising that she’d not be distracted reading maps while driving and it had hands-free mobile facilities. First off, the hands-free is a waste of time; it’s got such a terrible mic that you end up shouting and being misheard the whole time. Distracting at best. Secondly, the traffic for life is misleading as its just an RDS aerial, and not the actual TomTom traffic service. Thirdly, the TomTom HOME software is truly awful. As a software developer with a background from a very well-known software company, it is one of the most unreliable and bug-ridden pieces of work I’ve seen since the mid-nineties. Search out the forums to see the issues people are having with it. Finally, the actual device is buggy, too. I’ve witnessed first hand as an experienced driver the misleading directions and told my partner to keep an eye on the map and not to take the spoken directions verbatim. Today, just after the device hung as it received a phonecall, my partner mounted the central reservation and had a puncture while trying to “keep right”, while the map was pointing to a left turn. Probably something an experienced driver would have dealt with, but the poor girl is, as I type, waiting for a tow-truck. The AA said that she “wouldn’t believe the amount of accidents they attend as a result of sat-nav”. If the internet can do anything, it can provide a balanced set of opinions and aid people in making buying decisions, and avoid dissapointment or worse. Therefore, I implore you to consider how bad life was when you had to look at a map and read good ol’ road signs. What a shame.

Customer Review: Average but expensive
I’m sorry, but I have to agree in part with JJ Moore. “Tomtom one XL” is plastered across the front of the case so that if anyone was in any doubt about what’s in the case, they need wonder no longer. It would be a lot less conspicuous in an unmarked bag or case. But apart from that, I cannot understand for the life of me how this One XL carry case can retail at ?18. I believe that if the black fabric covering was stripped away, a simple cardboard case would be revealed. It looks nice I admit, but it feels cheap and weighs nothing when you pick it up. It probably cost less than a quid to manufacture somewhere in the far east, and we are being ripped off to the tune of ?18 - for a cardboard box in a fancy costume. Unfortunately, I bought mine before I knew all this, but if I could turn back the clock I would find an alternative. I recommend that you do the same.
Customer Review: Why buy this item
If the idea of removing the unit from the car is to deter theft then carrying it with TomTom Xl branded on the case is just saying “Oh look I am carrying a Satnav please mug me”
A plain case is enough to protect it.
