Avoid these common photography mistakes

1.) Not understanding your equipment

You don’t necessary need to know how to operate every function on your camera. However, it doesn’t hurt to devote some energy into actually learning about all the various functions you paid for when you purchased your camera. It can be as simple as regularly devoting time to learn ONE new function and use it to take experimental photographs during a photo session.

2.) No clear focus of the picture

The human eye and brain tend to automatically filter out objects in our environment that we find uninteresting, but when we try to capture a scene on photo we need to realise that our cameras do not work like us humans they will picture everything in the scene. Before taking a photograph, decide what you wish to capture in this picture and then look for items that may distract the viewer from that. Many beginners make the mistake of having to much clutter in their pictures.

3.) Always photographing in a standing position

Shooting from eye level might be the most comfortable way of taking a photograph, but many pictures will come out much better if you start experimenting a bit. Try taking pictures from above or below, strive to reflect objects in a different way than the way we usually see them?

4.) Being to quick to delete pictures

Digital cameras make it possible to instantly delete pictures in the camera without ever bothering to watch them on a larger screen. However, it is very difficult to accurately determine the quality of a picture when watching it on the tiny monitor of ones camera. If you take a lot of pictures it is worth buying a high-capacity card. That way, you can save all your pictures until you get a change to review them on a large screen. Picture that seem bad on the LCD display might turn out to be great when you get to see a larger copy.

5.) Being too shy to ask for help

Asking other people for help can be a great way to learn but if you prefer to keep your hobby private that is of course okay as well. If you choose to talk to others you will be able to learn a lot from other people and you should not be afraid to talk to experinced photographers. There are a lot of people out there who love to share their knowledge with beginners and thanks to the advent of the Internet finding them is now easier than ever. If you want to take better pictures, there are a lot of online guides to be found on the net, and there is also a myriad of photography forums where hobbyists and professionals gather to exchange tips, ideas and opinions. There are a lot of general photo sites as well as a lot of nische photo sites if you are mote interested in a certain niscche such as wildlife photography. Try joining a fish photo community, visit an architectural photo archive, or join a group of hobby photographs that announces weekly themes to inspire each other?
