Customer Review: A delight to use
When my Sony Camcorder ended its life I thought it would be difficult to replace and yet at half the price this item proves to be a more than adequate replacement and it’s half the size and weight too. The manual for any camcorder is frightening - so much complex detail - will I ever learn? No bother with this camcorder - just switch to auto and nothing could be simpler to use and get great results from. Before ending up with this item I bought a Canon model which was about ?[...] dearer. I returned this unit since the picture quality was awful and at that stage I thought that might be the best the mini-DV format could provide. No way - this JVC Camcorder gives excellent quality and it quickly adapts to changing lighting conditions. Flicking away from “Auto” to “Manual” there are a wide variety of features you can use to get top quality shots in more difficult circumstances. Taking them one at a time they are easy enough to master. Ths snapshot feature is a bit disappointing since it does not operate in the 16:9 format mode. Surely everyone has a widescreen TV these days. My only other criticism is the cost of replacement batteries - close to ?[...] - a bit of a rip off I think. I tried a supposedly replacement battery at a much cheaper price off Ebay - it looked the same but kept coming up with the message “communication error” when used. It had to go back. The battery supplied gives about 75 minutes of use and recharges in about 90 minutes so it is not too much of a problem not having a spare. I used Pinnacle software to download, edit and produce DVD discs in formats to suit PC and DV player. Great results were achieved with very little bother and I am no computer wiz kid. This unit may not suit the pro but for mere mortals, like me, it is about as good as I want and I am called a “Grumpy Old Man” by my darling wife.

Customer Review: GREAT LITTLE CAMCORDER
very impressed with the picture & sound quality of this entry level camcorder from panasonic. Not always brilliant indoors, but just use your common sense and make sure there is as much light as possible. Also quite impressed with the standard battery supplied, even using the viewfinder,i was supprised how much filming you can do.All in all, brilliant value for money.
Customer Review: Such a shame
I agree that this little camera is great. it’s so easy to use, nice and small to carry about with you and the picture quality is all you could want it to be. But I can’t understand why Panasonic don’t supply any software with this little gem. Frankly it’s stupid. If like me your PC doesnt have firewire then you’re stuck. Yes i can go and buy a firewire card; but when you’re buying a good product from a well established brand you dont expect to have to go and add bits to your PC to make it work. Dissapointing.

Panasonic - HDC-SD1 - High Definition SD Camcorder

Panasonic - HDC-SD1 - High Definition SD Camcorder
High-definition video cameras deliver incredibly realistic images that draw the viewer into an exciting new world, and proprietary Panasonic technologies have reached new heights in HD quality. The beautiful images recorded by a Panasonic high-definition video camera will bring back the emotion of the moment again and again, even years from now. A new peak in HD image quality. Experience it in DVD or SD/SDHC Memory Card style.

The compact design makes the HDC-SD1 easy to carry about, and with its smart styling you’ll want to take it everywhere.

In the AVCHD format you can record onto an SD or SDHC Memory Card and get up to about 90 minutes of continuous recording.

In Quick Start mode, the SD1 begins recording in just 1.7 seconds from the time the LCD is opened. This lets you shoot those sudden shooting opportunities.

Customer Review: Brilliant camcorder - best i’ve ever owned
I have had this camera for just unter a month now and it just keeps on amazing me after owning mini dv cameras in the past the picture quality on this is absolutely brilliant and the camera is so quite so you dont get any annoying noises on the soundtrack

Very fast focusing and Light adjustment includes the usefull zebra mode to warn you of over exposure.

only word of warning is software provided is near to useless with basic editing and upload software.

on the other hand if you own a mac get yourself a copy of the new ilife’08 package and you are sorted. I am also reliably informed that a recent update to final cut studio 2 allows for the editing of AVCHD footage.

and for ?603 this camera is a bargain :)
Customer Review: Scrimped on the basics
Yes this a very nice compact high definition camcorder, but for the money wouldn’t you expect a little more?

For example where is the camera case? -I can understand there not being a high quality leather one, but not even a vinyl case? What about a lens cover? And wouldn’t a HDMI cable (so you can connect it up to your high definition tv) be a nice addition?

Some decent software (that you could edit movies with) would be nice too.

Finally, a viewfinder so that you are not TOTALLY reliant on the LCD view screen would be neat.

Nice machine Panasonic, but you’ve scrimped so much on it, that the package as a whole suffers.

Customer Review: Great cam, ruined by fault after fault
I actually won this camcorder in a competition so thankfully I didnt spend any money on it, but the money spent in repair after repair after repair for this thing probably was more than the price anyway! It is great quality, good features, but within a year or so I had a lot of faults with the tape assembly (tapes jamming inside, or tape bay refusing to eject), after having these faults fixed then there were problems with the heads (it needed a head cleaning after almost every use!), then the tape assembly started playing up again, then it had a weird software glitch that kept saying “press reset button” which didnt cure it even when you did, then the heads played up again, then the carriage assembly, then the heads… and so on. After it wrecked a mornings shooting this morning (”please clean tape heads” it said, after I had JUST CLEANED THEM!) I was ready to throw this piece of junk out the window. Maybe I just had a dud ex display model as my prize.. I dont know. I certainly wouldnt buy Panasonic again after all these problems.
Customer Review: Good for price but…
I have had this camera for 2 years and have appreciated its ease of use and features - e.g. audio dubbing to replace or add to an original soundtrack. Unfortunately it does not perform well in very low light and the microphone picks up a lot of wind noise. It has only been used several times - holidays, birthdays etc and has developed a fault with the tape transport mechanism, which I would not expect of a Panasonic (or any) product of this age. Until now I have been very happy with it though I have not used many of its features, and the picture quality is quite OK. I may have been unlucky with this camera but, unless it can be repaired economically, I would think twice about buying this model again.

Customer Review: Perfect for my Fujifilm S9600
I purchased this bag online so was unable to test the fit with my Fujifilm S9600. Luckily it fits like a glove. I was looking at the Apex 110AW also but the 120 is a little longer which means it’ll take the camera with the lens hood in place. I can fit in a all the associated cables, spare batteries and the battery charger without it all rattling around like they would in a much bigger bag. The build quality is superb, padding seems good and there is a microfibre cloth built in to protect delicate lcd displays on the back of your camera. The easily deployed (and easy to stash) rain cover will protect your camera and case from the elements. All in all I am very impressed. Size was important to me as I wanted all my stuff in one place but I wanted a bag small enough I wouldn’t be put off taking it to places. Although the S9600 isn’t a digital SLR it is very similar in size so I can see this bag being perfect for your EOS 400D, or similar, with a reasonably sized zoom lense attached.
