Customer Review: A versatile compact
I bought the S5 last year, having previously owned the S3is. Overall, the camera has met my expectations. OK, its not as good as a full DSLR, but at less than half the price of a DSLR + lens, it is good value as a versatile point and shoot.

Customer Review: Awesome Prosumer Camera
I have been using digital cameras since 2002 and have always gone for Canon, my first camera being a 2mp compact. I have been swithering about the 40D for ages and the imminent arrival of the 450D had me sitting on the fence even more. I took myself to one side and had a little chat about what little difference an extra 2mp will make and decided to go for the 40D. I am so glad I did, I have been using a 350D and the step-up in terms of build quality is unreal, you know where the extra money has gone. In terms of exciting new features there really isn’t anything to get excited about. Sure, it has liveview but so what, all my compacts have that. Saying that it is a useful feature but not something you are going to show off about. I have been showing friends the camera and althogh there isn’t any killer features to show off with, the camera is probably the ultimate incarnation of an SLR in this price bracket. What this camera offers is complete confidence and a feature set that inspires creativity and solutions to any photographic challenge. Everything works well and within a couple of days you come to grips with the controls an away you go. I got a couple of lenses, a Sigma 10-20mm and a Sigma 24-60 f2.8 constant aperture and I am saving hard for a Canon 70-200mm lens. When I get that I will have a very respectable kit that covers any photographic situation. The finish and build of the body is second to none, magnesium alloy throughout and it is light, strong and the rubberised coating is very tactile. A small indentation below the shutter button allows your middle finger to sit tightly against the grip and this gives a real good hold. The buttons are on the whole well position but the four small buttons along the top panel sometimes cause you to twist and convolute your digits to pick certain features. I photograph in a variety of situations from landscape to candid, portrait, still life, the whole lot really and this camera is never away from my side. The menus are indepth but accessible and pretty much every function you could wish for (and a few more besides) is available to tweak, set to auto or disable. I really can’t praise this camera highly enough, I shoot mainly RAW files and the quality of the processed image (when using the included software) is second to none. My photography has really stepped up a gear purely due to this camera and for that reason alone I couldn’t recommend it highly enough. Don’t fall into the megapixel trap, the 40D is pretty comparable to the 450D (especially with the current cashback offer) and you really owe it to yourself to buy a fantastically well specified camera with a build quality that will ensure it gives years of service.
Customer Review: Wildlife shots should never be missed
The camara is great, I have stepped up from a 350d and used to use a EOS3 in the days when slide film was the best I could find. If your going to use it to do wildlife photography the camera is unbeatable for the money, at 6 FPS you should never miss a shot and with such a large LCD screen it is so easy to check the shot is in focus whilst in the feild any mistakes can be corrected there and then. A 4GB card will still hold over 1000 shot in high setting (not RAW) I am really pleased with this Chritmas present to myself and am now trying to pursuade somebody else to buy one… Canon have done a great job with this one. It helps having great lenses (which Canon are also very good at) but having a great camera behind them is very important, if you really care how the pictures are going to come out this is a great machine for the enthusiast.

A really amazing camera!! super sharp images, perfect deep and fruitful colouration. This is definitely a camera to buy. my only problem with it so far is that the aperture only goes to f7.5; I needed f16 in a studio environment, but really how often do you use a studio? other than that this camera fits all my needs, its just about perfect. Customer Review: Software problems
This camcorder is sold with Macintosh compatible software (Digital Video Solutions Disc Version 19.0) unfortunately the other software supplied (Roxio MyDVD) which allows download of the video to a computer is only compatible with a Windows based PC. The moral is if you have a Mac you cannot download video for editing and copying purposes. This has been confirmed by Canon Support. This apart it is a good camera but, as a Mac user it is useless. So be warned.

Customer Review: Technology comes cheap…
At ?180 I continue to be amazed by price and quality of technology. “Tape?”, you may ask but as the media is cheap and having found it easy to do basic editting on my PC, I feel justified by the decision not to spend more money on a DVD-model. I selected the MD235 over the MD160 as it was cheaper and I didn’t need a still photo feature. Also, the camera records in widescreen as standard & has an optional mic input which may come in handy in the future. Straight out of the box, I found the camera was easy to use. The camera is light and compact. The zoom is quick and focussing reasonably rapid though low light performance isn’t that good with the “LCD light” practically useless. The playback and image quality is lovely and colours are vibrant and lively. On the LCD, the joystick menu system works better for me than Sony’s touchscreen technology as it’s a easier to navigate the menus. All in all, very pleased and would recommend highly. I also bought DVK-203 Accessory Kit (Extended Life Battery, Carry Case & Tape) which helped get things going too. The camera doesn’t come with a firewire cable so I ordered one too…

Did a lot of research before buying: looked at mini dv’s, but tape seems so old-fashioned and fiddly now, and besides they’re on the way out. Hard disc drives didn’t convince on reliability, and reviews of earlier dvd camcorders criticised quality of recording compared to tape. And then the DC50 came along. Canon have obviously learned lessons along the way and produced a truly fine new-generation DVD camcorder. It has an extra-large CCD sensor to let in lots of light, which was a big factor in my buying it. Also a factor were the number of excellent customer and official reviews. Can’t do a teccie’s review, as I haven’t got to grips with the software yet and haven’t done any editing. However I’ve just come back from the Edinburgh Festival and really put it through its paces, both on land and sea. It feels good and solid in the hand, and the main buttons are well positioned for one-handed use. The wide screen is great, and of course for playback in-camera you just jump from scene to scene, as opposed to tedious rewinding and fast-forwarding with tape. As a point and shoot it’s dead easy, but this camcorder will do so much more (like fading in and out of scenes), and I’m still getting to grips with all its functions. I’m not bothered about using it as a stills camera, but there’s 5.3 megapix for you to play around with! Battery life (BP208) is about 90 minutes for recording, longer for playback. You can recharge it in-camera using the supplied charging lead, but I would suggest a spare battery (about ?30 for a proper Canon one) and battery charger (I got a good one on the internet for about ?12, including an in-car charger), then you can recharge both at once prior to going out. You will get about 25 - 30 minutes of recording time on a disc, using standard play. Both disc and battery are quick and easy to change. You can do either some editing in-camera, or just simple deleting, depending on which of 2 modes you initialise your disc in (something I’m still trying to get my head round), but it’s also easy enough to download to your pc using either USB or the disc itself. And the real beauty of this system is that you can just finalise the disc and pop it straight into a dvd player for immediate viewing. Most importantly of all, the quality of the movie is simply astonishing. The colours are vibrant and sharp, and even in low light situations (such as the Tattoo or inside pubs etc) I didn’t have to change to a low-light programme. That huge CCD sensor did its job. The Tattoo looked fantastic, and even inside a dark shop was almost as light as day. Sound quality is excellent too. Replaying the disc on our lcd television, my teccie husband and I could’nt believe the quality: as good as anything on tv. Even the camera shakes of a nervous newbie operator (me) didn’t matter too much, thanks to the superior image stabilisation system. I cannot tell you how good this camcorder is: I think it’s probably one of the best on the market, and answers all previous criticisms about dvd camcorders. It’s worth every penny, and there’s nothing to disappoint. If you’re thinking of buying one, if possible don’t economise with a cheaper one (with smaller CCD): this is a case where you really get what you pay for. The quality is truly outstanding, with all the advantages and ease of use of dvd. And I find Canon consistently excellent anyway (2 digital cameras and a photo printer - all brilliant).

Customer Review: I like it anyway!
I brought this camera for myself a few weeks ago, (because nobody brought me one for Christmas :-p )mainly based upon the great price and the funky colour.

I’ll admit that when I first received it I was a little disappointed as the screen was quite grainy as another customer pointed out, but this in no way affects the quality of the picture once taken. In fact once I uploaded the pictures to my PC most came out crystal clear (some were a little blurred, but that was more the result of my poor photography skills then fault of the camera)

I really couldn’t see much picture quality difference between this camera and my brothers camera which was almost double the price.

It does what pretty much every other digital camera out there does; tons of different settings to play around with like night mode, beach mode, landscape mode etc; movie recording; sound recording; timer(which beeps before the picture is taken so you don’t get taken unawares);anti-blur; and a small internal memory of about 30 pictures.(its probably best to get a memory card though, I got a Fuji 1GB XD Type H Card for ?6, and it gives me something ridiculous like 600 pictures or 20mins movie memory, which seems like so much!)

The camera is so little and light that I just carry it around constantly in my bag, though I had to buy my own case to stop it getting scratched. Being so small can cause a bit of a problem with fingers slipping into shot, but its easily overcome with a bit of practice holding it.

I also agree that it has to be one of the easiest cameras to use, I haven’t even had to open the manual yet. Installing the PC software was also easy as pie. Definitely one for the not so technologically minded.

So basically this camera is probably not best for the professional photographer, but is great for everyone else who just wants to take nice normal everyday pictures, holiday snaps, special occasions etc. Well, i like it anyway!

Camera is lightweight funky and simple to operate. Battery charged up quickly and in no time I was snapping away. the product is very easy to use and the quality of the pictures is very good, I am no technical person, and I found it extremely easy to use. Bought this software based on all the great reviews.Unfortunately I found it extremely frustrating to actually cut a scene from the captured footage,then when finished after a 3-4 hour slog,I burnt to DVD only to find the image jerky.

Contacted the Customer service on e-mail as the phone number did not work and despite following the instructions from the e-mail help line the results are still the same.Complained to the supplier who now refuses to refund.

This experience is really off putting,maybe the people who love this software can explain why it’s so good.It does nothing for me!!

Customer Review: Brilliant Easy to Use Camcorder
I bought this camcorder in December and it was the best camcorder i have used! For a DVD camcorder this is brilliant as it uses Optical Image Stabilisation which corrects any potential handshake when shooting, the zoom is more than enough when filming any type of shot, and when I have finished I simply popped it into the DVD player so my family and I could re watch our special Xmas Day all over again
Customer Review: Good camera - if you can view the pictures
As a novice to DVD camcorders, I obviously didn’t research the right things. This camera is easy to use, BUT if you record in Video Recording format (VR) which is the only way you can use the built in software to edit your film, then the results can’t be viewed on your computer unless you have Power DVD, aren’t compatible with Windows Movie Maker, and can’t be viewed on most DVD players. It took me two days of trawling through web forums to work this out, as the instruction book only says “can be played on compatible…” without being at all specific. If you record in video format, you can watch on your DVD player, or on your computer, but can’t edit in the camera, and the files are still not compatible with Windows Movie Maker. So - I will need to buy software to convert, edit and then burn back to DVD. I’m currently looking at AVS - any advice would be welcome.

I bought this camera about two weeks ago, and it is fantastic.

Easy to use and very compact. It looks and feels quality in your hand. The screen is big and easy to use. I was worried about the touch screen as a few had said it was tricky and not very responsive. But i must say it is really easy to use and very responsive. It takes phots really quicky, one after another and powers up ready in no time at all. Highly recommended.

Worth paying that little extra for over a canon one for example.

The best thing about this camera is its sturdiness portability. If one is not used to Cybershots, it takes just a little time to understand how it works. Pictures are very clear (though I have not tried in low light yet), macro is fantastic and it feels good in your hands. The only thing I do not particularly like is the lens cover (at the front) which has to be moved up and down (when you intend to shoot or stop shooting) all the time, which adds a little bit to the laboriousness that one would not want from a camera of this type. Otherwise, warmly recommended!!!

The Nikon coolpix L4 is a great little camera. It’s easy to use and with 4 mega pixels it takes good clear photographs. You can take it straight out of the box, load the batteries and shoot. I bought this as a replacement for my Nikon 3100 because the battery cover cracked after 2 years, thinking it would be up to the standards of that model. However I have been very disappointed at its autofocus which seems to only focus on objects about half of the time. Maybe I should just find a 3100 again, because I never had any problems with it.

This “toy” costs ?80! 1.3 Megapixels is not even a usable image in this day and age. Anyone reading that statement may think that I should give the product a little slack, as it is a “kids” toy. It has an adult price tag, so I’m going to treat it as such, and compare it with similarly priced camera products. If the product was ?20 I’d give it the benefit of the doubt. ?20 for rubbish photos, but it’s giving my little girl hours of enjoyment. That is fair enough: you can’t put a price on your child’s happiness. But ?80 for rubbish photos? This camera offers an Interpolated 1.3 megapixel camera. - You can get an adult’s 7 megapixel camera for the same price with movie playback. 5 megapixel for ?50. (Check amazon for yourself) The camera also comes with 8MB worth of memory. Yep eight whole megabytes. By today’s memory to price conversion that is about - if we’re being generous - quarter of a penny worth of memory. The mark-up on this product is extrordinary. It must be at least 10 times what it costs to produce. Even selling this product for ?40 would give Fisher Price a significant profit on every unit sold. I’d recommend buying your child a cheap adult’s camera and paint it pink. If they smash it; just buy another. Smash that? Buy a third. Still cheaper… …and better photos.

Customer Review: Best for those with little patience and knowledge
I got this as a late christmas gift. After having a baby in October there was nothing I needed for myself although I love taking pics so I bought this with christmas money. I am only 21 but I have had 4 digital cameras including this one. I have very little patience and need everything to hand, all the buttons you could possibly need are just a touch away instead of looking through lots of menus. The picture quality is extremely good and it is perfect for when I want to capture my sons movement without the image blurring. The best thing about this camera is the battery pack it uses. There’s no need for any batteries, only the small battery pack that you charge from the mains. It takes up to two hours to charge the battery and it can last up to a week with regular usage. I didn’t know these kind of batteries were used in digital cameras but saves a fortune in regular batteries.

Customer Review: fuji just gets better
Needed to get a small camera as my fuji 5500 was a bit bulky for slipping in the pocket. Am I glad I got this one. First used at a UB40 concert, fantastic clear pics. Next used to ’snap’ my husbands ship leaving port, when the batteries ran out on the big camera, again, clear near perfect pictures at full magnification. When we zoomed in on the picture once it was transferred to the computer, we could even make out my husband on the side! Easy to slip in your pocket, use, and transfer pics afterwards. Even my elderly mum can operate it (and that’s saying something!) And it’s such a reasonable price.
