Customer Review: Can be bought much cheaper now.
I know it`s almost a year since the last review but there are lots of these kits still around at a very good price. I`ve just bought one brand new on Ebay for ?5.50. A fantastic bargain. The case is good quality and as it includes the spare battery plus a +RW Disc then there`s no reason not to buy one now. I`m almost tempted to get another one just for the battery and Disc.

This is extremely over priced for what you get. Having said that though here is where you should buy it if you want it; it is 79.99 in Argos and shopping around i’ve seen it priced higher.

For the first 2-3 weeks the little DVD case is ok. After that it doesn’t last that long as you’ll have to buy a new one because it only holds 4 DVDs.

Overall, this will be good for your handycam especially the new spare battery you’ll get with it.

I’ve bought a bigger camcorder bag and DVD case now, though.

So to round up, this is a great kit to buy to start you off but you’ll probably end up buying replacements for your camcorder.

My advice is to buy it even though its really over-priced.

Customer Review: Technology comes cheap…
At ?180 I continue to be amazed by price and quality of technology. “Tape?”, you may ask but as the media is cheap and having found it easy to do basic editting on my PC, I feel justified by the decision not to spend more money on a DVD-model. I selected the MD235 over the MD160 as it was cheaper and I didn’t need a still photo feature. Also, the camera records in widescreen as standard & has an optional mic input which may come in handy in the future. Straight out of the box, I found the camera was easy to use. The camera is light and compact. The zoom is quick and focussing reasonably rapid though low light performance isn’t that good with the “LCD light” practically useless. The playback and image quality is lovely and colours are vibrant and lively. On the LCD, the joystick menu system works better for me than Sony’s touchscreen technology as it’s a easier to navigate the menus. All in all, very pleased and would recommend highly. I also bought DVK-203 Accessory Kit (Extended Life Battery, Carry Case & Tape) which helped get things going too. The camera doesn’t come with a firewire cable so I ordered one too…

Bought this at a pc fair for ?35.00, so gave it a work out on a holiday, as a bit of a toy. Never expected great quality but it held up well in bright sun and in a dim cave. Forget the mic for recording any live music as it distorts quickly,but sensitive for speech ect.Really does fit in pocket and you really start to use it everywhere which can be fun.If you put in new duracells and not using the light all the time had good results. Now the bad part the files are asc and recorded as separet files so they have to be converted by software provided which takes ages.I then edited ii together in 2 software packages, there own and XP Movie, and as yet have not been able to get it onto a dvd, or harddrive, perhaps i was doing something wrong ??. Also i recorded at so called D1 quality which is only 20 frames but better quality than VGA.Then the camera was stolen out of my coat pocket so that is that. Will i buy another one, perhaps yes if it records in a standard format. Also could not get playback direct onto TV although it was switched to PAL and 50 hz. very usful but dont throw you DV Camera away just yet.

i too have bought this item from QVC. It is great value for money and takes perfect videoing. I would recommend this for anyone who wants an easy to use video recorder thats compact to take out on a night out or for on holiday. i do agree with the previous customer the AA batteries supplied by qvc only lasted 10 mins. I have tried Duracel plus AA batteries and they lasted for about 25 mins. i’ve just purchased from Amazon an Energizer 1hr charger with 4 AA batteries at 2500mah for ?11.99 and let my video run to see how much recording i could do and i have had about 70 mins which are perfect. I like the fact that these use aa batteries because my camera as a lithium rechargeable battery and when i’m out and about and this runs out theres nothing you can do until you get home to charge them, whereas you can pop into nearest shop and pick up a set of aa batteries. i am so please with this item and would recommend it to anyone.

Customer Review: I didn’t actually get it…
I’m sure the item itself is great, but when I ordered this, I actually got the LCS-TWD instead and it was shipped from the US. So I basically didn’t get what I paid for.

Interestingly, I paid ?4.50 for p&p and ?26.25 for the item — when the package arrived, it said that US postage was $1.80 (about 90 pence?) and the value stated on the jiffy was $9.49 (about ?5?), so in all I feel like I’ve been ripped off… In fairness, elsewhere on the internet, you can get the case for anything from ?18-?24.99 so I’d say that it’s probably best to buy from elsewhere — at least you might get what you ordered.

Customer Review: Great until you find the obvious flaw!!
We bought one of these for the office. As engineers visiting site we regularly kill cameras through dirt, dust, water general bouncing incidents etc.

Now this is a preliminary review, and I’d give it 4 stars BUT there’s a major flaw (IMHO) To charge the battery you need to open the cover, remove battery and charge in a separate charger. I’m used to Fuji cameras which you plug directly into an adaptor or USB socket. I find it incredible that Olympus have designed this camera with all the fancy rubber seals etc to keep it watertight, and then you have to regularly open/close the battery compartment so disturbing the seal. In addition the clip that holds the battery in seems quite weak.

This is poorly though out by Olympus. The USB socket will take an adaptor to power the camera, but I’m told by Olympus support that this socket cannot be used to recharge the battery. How silly is that?!?

The camera takes good pictures and seems to be solidly made for the price. It’s been out in the field a couple of times and so far has survived. We have a cupboard with five (yes five!!) dead digital cameras, here’s hoping this one doesn’t join them!

Customer Review: Great camera for the beach or watersports
When you first see this camera its hard to believe that it’s shock and water resistant, the finish is very nice and it feels solid and well constructed. I purchased mine online and I was quite surprised at how small it is.

Start up is very fast and in general performance is good. Image quality is reasonable but not inspiring, this is not a low light camera, but for general use noise is well controlled, lens distortion and control of fringing is good considering the size of the lens assembly. The 3X zoom is a bit sluggish.

The card/battery and USB compartments are lined with small rubber seals, which must be kept clean if the waterproofing is to be maintained. I found the camera easy and good fun to use, although the controls on the rear are very small and rather fiddly at times. The LCD is clear but has a slow refresh rate… The case is not scratch resistant, it’s a pity that the special silicon skin that you can get in the US does not seem to be available in Europe

You should consider this camera if ruggedness and water resistant features are high on your list of requirements, there are plenty of other cameras out there in this price range that will give you better looking images straight from the camera but not many you can take in a swimming pool with you !.

I have not tested the camera underwater yet, preferring to refer to it at this stage as water resistant, bear in mind its only waterproof to 9 feet so its not IMO and underwater camera as such.

There are some nice features for beginners such as the very comprehensive scene modes and a very useful “guide” mode which can be used to adjust many camera functions, the menu system in general is reasonably easy to follow.

If you need a strong and water resistant compact Camera that you can take out in a kayak or to the beach that’s easy to use and you are happy to post process the images to get the best out of them, then this is the one to get.

Problems

Images are soft, and lack contrast although exposure is balanced and they respond well to post production. Check out some sample images on review sites before buying.

No way to control image parameters such as sharpness, contrast and saturation within the camera, which is disappointing.

30 fps movies are limited to 10 seconds! (I read somewhere that this is a Hardware limitation to prevent overheating)

No Paper Manual, I know Olympus have been doing this for years, but its annoying, especially for beginners. There is a quick start guide, who covers the basics, but most people want something they can slip in a bag and read at their leisure.
