Customer Review: Small But Perfectly Formed?
…well almost. I’ve had this camcorder for about one month now, and the performance is incredible given its size. I wont talk much about the (formidable) list of editing/dubbing/effects options available, suffice to say that once shot, you can do all the usual stuff with your footage to enhance it. Instead, I want to talk about the basic quality of the camcorder you’ll be spending your many ???’s on. Its video quality is quite simply astounding. The colour reproduction is very accurate, thanks to that Primary Colour Filter, very neutral, very true to life. The CCD produces resolutions that are easily comparable to the very best digital TV/tuner systems, and not far short of pre-recorded DVD standard. Using interlaced encoding; movement is very smooth, with no blurring of lines or colour bleed, and no discernable digital “artefacts”. I really like the 16:9 widescreen mode, which uses an optical method, giving a genuine wider-angle view, and capturing the full frame, without the pixel loss associated with digital “cropping”. The progressive mode at 25 frames/sec looks choppy as you’d expect, and to my mind is a bit of a gimmick, useful only if you plan to capture still frames from your videos. Why you would want to do that, given the performance of this machine as a 3 megapixel stills camera, I don’t know. Talking of stills, this camera really does do a good job, unlike just about all other camcorders. Having seen test photos from its predecessor, the PC330, which I was thinking of buying, the results from the PC350 are much less grainy and benefit from the same colour fidelity as the videos. The sound recording quality is both a revelation and a disappointment at the same time. It’s the Achilles heel of this camcorder, because on the one hand, the microphone is very sensitive, and with the 16bit sampling, gives a wonderfully accurate and detailed stereo soundstage with no clipping in loud situations such as at a party, but on the other hand is so sensitive that it picks up the tape motor noise if shooting in very quiet situations. The problem is not that the motor is loud, it’s that the camera is so small and the mic therefore in such close proximity to the internal workings. Ok, most of the time you just won’t notice it, nevertheless, for this reason alone, I’m knocking a star off its overall rating. The ergonomics are fine and button layout is logical. However, if you have hands like dinner plates, this is not the camcorder for you. Battery life, I think is pretty good, giving 90 minutes or thereabouts, continuous shooting, with the supplied NP-FF51. I edit videos on my computer, and the docking station is great for uploading footage/stills while charging the battery. Conclusion: Really glad I got this camera, it’s a beauty! Don’t be put off by the tape noise, that’s a minor quibble, and a fault on many camcorders.

I have this camera for about 6 months and is excellent. This is my first camcorder but i love it. Takes excellent video quality, easy to use, and quite small to always carry with you. The optical zoom is fantastic, and the picture quality with up to 20x digital zoom is very good as well. Nice and vibrant colours, no pixels whatsoever with optical zoom (mind you though need to use the right setting for the right moment). The only negative is the absence of flashlight and the battery wont last for more than 45mins, hence the 4 stars. I love this liitle gem though and very happy with it.

Customer Review: Nice looking software - just doesn’t work for me
I have used previous ULead packages before and generally found them very stable. So when looking for software to create a nice dvd I chose this package over others on the market - especially as the v3.0 had good reviews.

First impressions were positive - the program interface is nice and simple, and it is pretty fast at playing back what you have created.

The problems for me started after I had created the basic content - and was trying to edit menus/music etc. Several things just crashed the program. After contact with tech support (who responded but not very fast), I was advised to completely clear the installation off my system and try again. This time, avoiding the pitfalls I knew about, I got to the last screen where the dvd is burnt.

However when I click burn it always crashes - and this is one pitfall that cannot be avoided. I’ve tried their 4.0.1 update but still no luck - it crashes when I try to burn.

So overall quite unhappy with the purchase - I’ll give them some credit for a nicely designed program. If they fix it in the next couple of weeks their rating will go up - if not they will be dropped to a zero

Customer Review: Better value than its younger brothers
I first saw this on the Ch5 Gadget show, just after being burgled and losing my HP-R707 camera. The F30 is so much better than any of the several comparable digital cameras I tried at the time (and subsequently).

Good points: amazingly good battery life from the standard NP95 Li-Ion and rapid recharge; very fast shutter response; excellent lens; good colorimetry; good picture performance so long as you restrict the ISO to 400 or less; surprisingly good flash; very easy to use, no need to RTFM although this can be of benefit for discovering deeper menu items.

OK points: takes a few moments to wake up from fully off, but OK therafter; also soon after wake up from a long sleep sometimes you need to remember to tickle the flash in advance of needing it; movies are OK, but low resolution, however several minutes can be stored and still have room for a hundred full res pics on a 1Gig card; zoom is only 3:1, but with 6M pixels cropping is useful and gives better results than the digital zoom; the antishake works OK, but some absolute resolution is lost, however not a problem if you use the whole image.

Bad points: forget the Fuji software, I could not get it to run properly under XP, just load the driver to handle the USB peculiarities, and use standard photo tools; the annoyingly fiddly little plastic flap, but it’s amazingly still intact after six months and thousands of pics by both of us; no soft case supplied, but some of the nice phone protectors fit snugly.

I had no regrets when the HP was stolen, but I would really miss the F30! I’m considering buying another F30 (one each) while they are still available.

I bought this camera earlier this year as i wanted a decent camera to take with me on my honeymoon. I do abit of scuba diving and so wanted a camera that was good in low light conditions. What can i say other than i would fully recommend this camera to anybody. The huge screen is great, it’s compact and takes amazing pictures. My wife bought a sony cyber digital camera around the same time as me,and on comparing pictures when we uploaded them on our return, the quality of the Fuji F30 Finepix really shone through.

10 out of 10, superb!!! This camera is also alot better than it’s replacement the F31, so buy one while you can.

Customer Review: Canon 40D Introduction
Well, let me first say that the item arrived fairly quickly (2 weeks to Australia) and arrived in pristine condition. The DVD cover itself looks well presented. The DVD looks like it was mass printed with only the name of the disk on it. From there it really went downhill. I’m new to DSLR photography and have had my 40D for 3 months. However, I’m not a noob to photography principals and really wanted a hands on 40D specific walkthrough. The presentation and the graphics and audio is all top quality and that was fine. The presenter looked a bit like a robot and sounded a lot like Troy McClure which was VERY annoying. The presentation is much more an intro photography rather than the 40D, they only just touch on the simple and rather obvious features of the 40D. There’s no real in depth tutorials on how to employ the 40D in different environments or situations. Like I said they talk a lot about the important issues of very basic photography but I didn’t learn anything novel that I didn’t pick from the manual and after a week or two of mucking with my 40D or searching for 40D on YouTube. For this reason I was VERY disappointed and feel a bit ripped off. This would be more suited for someone who has never picked up a digital camera and happens to be learning on a 40D.

Customer Review: Very disappointing
I wanted a new camera as my old one, although fantastic, was only 4MP. As the image quality and colour vibrancy of my old Olympus camera was superb; I decided to stick with the brand and plumped for the Mju 820.

The camera looks very sleek and is extremely easy to use but unfortunately I found these to be the only qualities. After taking over one hundred pictures I noticed on the LCD that there was a lot of noise on all of the pictures but I hoped that when I transferred them onto my computer then the 8MP would really show…I was wrong. The quality of every single image was terrible and these were not low-light/close up shots, these were outdoor in full-light. Most were taken with the pre-programmed ‘normal’ (point-and-shoot) settings. I even tried altering the ISO and using each of the scenario settings but to no avail.

Another thing that made me dislike the camera was the fact that, although the camera looks stylish, its slim-line edge on one side contrasted with its chunky edge on the other making the camera quite difficult to hold and grip.

All in all, I would recommend extreme caution if you’re thinking of buying this camera - its 2 star rating is purely due to its ease of use.

im very happy with it,love the look and all the fetures it as.great in macro mode,really clear shots.

my only little gripe is when i croped some pictures for putting on the internet,they seemed a little grainy,not macro,but normal shots,but that could well be down to me,need more practice,so im off to play again.thanks olympus for a good product.

I love these batteries! Something to consider tho, is that a Warehouse Club 48-pack of regular 2800ma alkalines are about the same price. So for low-current applications where maximum life, cold weather performance, weight, etc. isn’t critical, there are much more cost-effective choices. AND speaking of critical, I had a little digital safe at the office (for postage stamps, the checkbook, spare car keys, and such) that ran on AA’s. I used it for years on regular alkalines and replaced them every 3 months or so. When the alkalines got low, it would still weakly open 5 or 10 times to give me plenty of time to change them. When I switched to a set of these lithiums (to reduce how often I had to do the replacement procedure) they lasted just over twice as long, BUT when they died, they were totally gone-ola. I think they’re way better at putting out full voltage to the end - which is ordinarily what you want out of a battery, unless you lock the manual-opening keys in the safe itself!

Customer Review: Fantastic Camera, especially for Holidays
I have owned one of these cameras for over two years, and it has been faultless. I am really happy with it. In fact it is the best camera I have owned so far. Great photo quality in any conditions, and a very compact design so it will fit in your pocket. It also has an advanced screen which can be viewed in even the brightest sunlight without reflection, therefore the lack of a viewfinder is not a problem, and is a necessity in order to make the camera so small. This makes it a perfect camera for holidays, where you want to have a camera you can take anywhere with you. It will fit in your pocket to take on an evening out, or day trip. There are cameras out there with higher resolution now, but I doubt many of them can compete with the flexibilty and versatility this offers.

I’ve had one of theses for a couple of years now & the results are excellent. Contrast & tones are well produced & the camera is small & very easy to use. Movie mode is sufficiently good to use in conjunction with regular digital video images when making DVD of events such as holidays although they can be a touch jerky. Beware that it is capable of producing images of a different frame speeds which may not be compatible with your camcorder so check speeds before use. Battery life too is good for several days normal work with the advantage that the camera uses a standard type mobile phone battery which gives the opportunity to have one on charge while using the other, which I never found the need to do as it will charge up OK overnight. Only major drawback is the lack of an optical viewfinder as the screen does suffer from loss of definition in bright light conditions if it cannot be shaded.
