Customer Review: Disappointingly buggy.
Agree with other review’s comments about ease of use, etc, but this software is inconsistent in it’s presentation to the user and has some minor and one major bug (so far) that I and others have discovered.

The worst aspect of Vegas 8 Platinum is that it will hang on building audio peaks when loading a captured file to the timeline if there is corruption in the file. Having looked at a couple of message boards for any fixes to this problem, it looks to have been around for a couple of releases. The only way to carry on is to end the program (or if, as is sometimes the case, this will not work you have to trash it in Task Manager) and restart it. But then if you try and recover your project on restarting the program, it tries to pick the corrupt file up again and hangs. Because you can never tell if a captured file is corrupt before you try to open it, the only way around this that I can see is to save a new generation of the project before dragging any new event to the timeline. There is no error handling for this condition. Poor, very poor.

There is inconsistent behaviour when trying to insert a Marker into the timeline. Sometimes the Marker is inserted where playback was begun, and sometimes it inserts it at the point that is being played back when M is pressed. If you don’t notice that the marker is at the wrong position you end up editing to the wrong mark.

When saving a project file (.VF), the program does not present the last place a .VF file was saved, but the last place a file of any type was saved. This contrasts with Make Movie, which always presents last place a movie file was saved.

Make Movie does not warn if the output file name already exists and creates another generation of file.

Horizontal scroll bar to change viewed region of the timeline does not appear every time the program is started, but sometimes displays as a black rectangle without any detail such as scroll buttons or the sized slider bar.

If you run out of disk space while capturing video files you don’t get notified until all the capture action ends. So you might have 20 minutes of video to capture over 10 takes, run out of disk after take 2 and not be notified until a capture has been attempted on all takes. Even then the error message is woolly, in that all it says is words to the effect that “some files were not saved for some reason”.

28 Feb 08: Didn’t take long to find another inconsistency - when doing a Make Movie, if the output file name is changed and then the user selects the Advanced Render option, the output file name in the Advanced Render section reverts to what it was before the name was changed.

06 Mar 08: During some actions such as Make Movie, parts of the Vegas window does not redraw correctly, and patches of the Desktop or parts of other windows are displayed “through” the Vegas window. Looks bad.

Also, once the full version of the software is purchased and installed over the downloaded Trial version, the .VF project files are still tagged as having been created with the trial version.

It’s been a bad day - this is the third new problems to report today. The software hangs in mid-operation. This is not associated with the hang described previously when corrupted video files are loaded to the timeline, but seems to be associated with high data bandwidth requirements. The only way to end the program is to trash it in Task Manager.

Prior to today I thought the software was poor, now I’m regretting buying it at all, and if it was possible to do so I would reduce my current two stars to one. A big name like Sony shouldn’t be putting this sort of rubbish on the streets.

Customer Review: It would be great - if it worked properly!
I bought this software about 4 months ago and have been in contact with Sony Tech Support ever since. Like the other reviewer says, they are utterly useless at getting their software to work correctly.

I have to say that I do like the user interface and concept of Vegas Studio, but every time I try to render a file which is more than 25mins long, it crashes. Sony are unable to explein why this happens. I’ve now tried it on 3 different computers and the same fault occurs on each of them.

So, if you want to render files longer than 25mins, then don’t waste your money on this program! (like I did)

Worlds smallest 3ccd camcorder, very lite, compact, joystick is a real help, colors are unbelieavable in daylight. I like the GS150 and it gets my recommendation for anyone wanting top-notch videos. However, if you do a lot of low light shooting, it’s probably not the best choice (then again, I still haven’t found a camcorder that truly excels in this area). The GS150 offers a whole lot of camcorder for not a lot of money. I bought one of these on amazon pre christmas.Great little camera. It is remarkably compact and fits in a suit or jacket pocket without being noticed. That feature is good if you are carrying a phone and other gadgets. The second thing I noticed was it was lightweight and had a real quality feel about it. Flip out screen is a nice size and picture quality is good. Video quality was found to be very satisfactory as was the 6m pixel still camera. Handy zoom lens. It is intuitive to operate so users will not need to spend much time on the chunky manual. I bought a 2 gig card which gives me more or less 2 hours of video. I am not likely to need a larger card before downloading. Comes with usb and tv leads plus sep charger. Lens cap was included and a pouch. Would have liked to have seen a Sanyo leather case with the package. Camera looks very neat in black. I am very happy with this purchase and would highly recommend it to readers.

I went for this camcorder after much hesitation. It’s both a camcorder and a 6 megapixel still camera with a flash. Surprisingly, it managed both well. Build: Head turner. Miniscule size & pocket friendly. Feels well made, the LCD screen has a confident, precise spring action. The lens is a few millimeters deep to the body surface which keeps it safe and clean. Contrary to other reviews I read; I had no problems keeping it still (even though I’m left handed). Decent quality LCD. Starts up in 2 seconds! Stills: OK for a 6 MPX camera, slightly pixilated in poor - moderate indoor lighting. Flash range is up to 1.7 meters. Impressive macro, clear down to 1 cm. Video: equivalent to any standard definition digital camcorder with any other media (HDD, mini DV). Uses MPEG-4 compression. Becomes grainy in low indoor light with auto focus struggling as well. Battery: claimed 70 minutes, less in practice (never timed it though). Has a standalone charger which I don’t use as you can charge through the mini-USB port from your PC, car lighter or mains adapter. Storage: SD or SDHC cards. You get 40 minutes / GB at the highest video setting. Can take up to an 8 GB SDHC card (thats 5.5 hours). Software: basic ULead software. Other functions: Doubles as a web cam. AV output to TV. Can capture your desktop (I found no use for this). Voice recording. Simple yet functional menu. What I found most important is how the video files are ultimately handled. Converting the Quick Time files into the Windows Media format with a 480X640 resolution will produce the best quality DVD movies that will look very good on any screen. You’ll need video editing software way beyond the supplied ULead package (I use Roxio). The results will not disappoint. Overall: Great hybrid camera/camcorder for the home user with a greater price tag.

Received the oven a week ago and have used it several times. I like the large size of the oven, the way it toasts but have one complaint: When you use it on convection bake or regular bake, there is no way of knowing when the oven gets to the desired temperature. It would be nice if a light came on, went off or if the oven beeped to let you know it has reached the temp. you have set.

I did some research and found that the BRK-200 was the counter top oven we wanted. When it arrived from Amazon we were very pleased. The convection feature is nice to have baking biscuits and such. Toasting bread is faster then our old pop-up toaster. I highly recommend this oven.

This printer was huge. It took up every last bit of available space on my desk. It was sure impressive looking. At 29 days after purchase, the magenta ink cart wasn’t recognized by the printer. It was almost full. At this point, the printer wouldn’t do anything, no scanning, no nothing. The print quality, while it was working, was extraordinary. I was more than pleased with the photos printed, as well as scanned. I give the photos that it let me print 5 out of 5 stars. However, I will not spend my valuable time messing around with ink carts. I have no patience for that. My old Lex Z55 lasted 5 years and all I had to do was slap in the 2 carts and go for broke. From reading lots of other reviews on this printer, the magenta cart fails within 30 days and you call Canon and they send you a new cart. I think they must have put a bad batch of computer chips on the magenta carts in with the included with purchase ink carts, just to get rid of them. Then, when a purchaser calls and complains, they promptly send a new one. Just on principal, I think this is a bad deal for consumers and I am not supporting a manufacturer that does this. I could have called and got my new cart and kept the printer, but instead, I packed that sucker back up and requested an RMA from Amazon to come get it, which they did, free of charge. Now I am looking for another decent printer, that will either be another Lexmark or an HP. Never again, Canon. I won’t ever purchase one other electronic anything from your company. Bad business, all the way around. Don’t buy this printer.
Customer Review: Great Printer for the Technically Challenged
I wanted a new printer to use for a multitude of tasks.. the primary of which was to go with the new camera I purchased to print pictures. I found it easy to use and the quality of prints is wonderful. Only thing I can ‘complain’ about is the ink cartridges. Seems expensive to replace and not the easiest ones to find (I can’t find the info on the box or in the instructions, I am going to have to open the printer and look at the ink cartridges to know which ones I need when they get low). Other than that, I highly recommend.
