Customer Review: If only it would work properly…
Good features and easy to use - conceptually. But. But. But. It constantly freezes and crashes my PC despite having much more memory and disc space than the minimum specified. My CPU speed should also be more than adequate to do the job. The internet has many reports of people having similar trouble with this software. This is absolutely unacceptable for software which will be used for large time-consuming video editing work, where a failure can be highly irritating to say the least. Pinnacle try to hide behind various excuses, mainly blaming the heavy computational load of video editing. That is rubbish. Properly written software would just run more slowly - it would not, repeat, not crash. The software concept must be fatally flawed. After a week of struggling I gave up and bought Sony Vegas instead. I have been using Vegas every day for two weeks now without a single freeze or crash. However, note that Sony Vegas is more complex to use and so has a steeper initial learning curve.

Customer Review: Great Pocket Video Camera
The Ultra Series Flip Video is perfect for recording up to one hour worth of video. It is perfect for families who want to share videos. I found that the sound quality is ok. The zoom is adequate but not great. And the picture quality is good for its price. The better the lighting you have, the better the quality of the video taken. It even looks good when watched on a TV screen. No sense lugging around a camcorder when you can carry this very light and small video camera that fits in your shirt pocket. Downloading the videos to a computer is simple and it keeps with some pre-loaded software, which makes it easy for you to edit, email, save, and make photos from the videos. The editing is very basic; it lets you trim some off the front and back of what you recorded. And it is set up to link right into You Tube. I was able to make a video just seconds after installing the batteries. The Ultra Series Flip Video has the ability to be mounted on a tripod as well as an action mount that can both be bought separately. But the 1-hour of video is all it can hold, which is more than enough for me. It does not have the ability to have the memory upgraded. Just to summarize this video camera is very light and easy to use. It is so easy to use that no instruction manual is necessary and I am not electronic savvy. It comes with all you need, including TV connector cable, carrying case, wrist strap and even the batteries. This is all you need to share video with your family at a low cost. (Amazon US US$100)
Customer Review: Okay - Not Quite as Trendy as it Seems
I do like this solid state camcorder but it’s neither exceptional value for money or versatile either. For kick off the quality of production is nothing exceltional, and by that I mean to compare with other similar priced products. To give some sort of idea what it is like, your mobile phone if it has the function for video would be similar if used on low res. That’s not to say it’s awful and clearly it’s designed as an easy cheap youtube device, just don’t expect too much. It’s also big. Given that it’s a solid state unit, it could be made a bit smaller, which would fit in with it’s go anywhere utility advertising. Having said that, a large part of this is down to using standard AA batteries which is convenient. They seem to last a good long time compared to other products like this. The zoom is digital which does limit quality. The recording angle is a wee bit narrow as well, so don’t expect any great indoor wide angle shots either. One thing that did bother me most of all is that there is no protective cover that closes over the clear plastic lens cover, meaning that any rough stuff, or grit in a pocket would cause a problem. There are many good points though. It’s well made, comes with it’s own flip out inbuilt USB A connection, so no extra wires, and I like the shape. Clean and simple. I guess in the end it would be exceptional value at 50 quid but at 100 it’s perhaps a bit steep.

Customer Review: Forget the still images!!!!
Yes, the still images are cronic, but thankfully I didn’t buy it for that. I wanted a compact modern up to date digital compact dv camcorder with all the toys and guess what….thats what I got. The quality of the picture and sound playback are very very good. Battery life is not eaten up in no time like my old 8mm camcorder. The large 3″ lcd is superb….”wish my wife was as happy with an extra half inch”. If I was to dare and put any kind of downer on this camera it would be the palm strap which tends to make the camera hang down when you hold it…you have to compensate for this.
Customer Review: Still image is really bad
Hi, All other things being good (except video under low light is not as good as my old analogue Sony), but one thing is really bad. The digital still photo quality is really really bad, useless. I suspect the camcorder is faulty so emailed the photo to JVC tech support but the email seems lost in vein! Can anyone send me your photo so I can check whether it is faulty. I can send you one if you want. My email is yalouwang at ntlworld.com Thanks. Yalou

Customer Review: You get what you pay for
This camera has a lot of problems. When recording there is a wavy line on the bottom of the screen, the auto focus doesn’t work properly and the battery life is terrible. By far the worst problem is that it keeps crashing when it is being used with the charger plugged in and spoiling the video. In fact the charging system seems to be terribly amateurish in design; it doesn’t indicate it is charging at all when the camera is switched on and will only give you battery levels by way of a flashing LED when it is switched off so you don’t really know whether its fully charged or not. The picture quality is very grainy and it seems to need strong light to give any reasonable quality at all. Every now and then the zoom facility gets its tights in a tangle and it refuses to focus at all. However it is cheap and easy to use so that’s in its favour. For someone who just wants holiday videos and isn’t too concerned about quality, or for someone just starting out in video then its a good buy. It does work its just that it isn’t very good.
Customer Review: Jury’s Out
My experience with this product has not been great. I bought at the ?200 price, I was initially very disappointed with the battery charge, when recording in normal mode, I got nothing like the time specifified in the manual for a full charge. Then, on my 3rd recording, the camcorder developed a fault, with the DVD-RW going round continually when you power on, and there was NOTHINGA i could do to stop it, remove the disk etc, tried everything, including removing batteries. So I had to send it back. I hope I have not been silly, in asking for a new camcorder rather than a refund, but hope springs eternal. By the way, my disappointment is with Samsung - amazon were outstanding, not only the good price which everyone notes here, but this is the first return I have made in c 7 years of custom, and I was super-impressed with how easy it is to make a return. How to Photograph Absolutely Everything: Successful Pictures from Your Digital Camera

How to Photograph Absolutely Everything: Successful Pictures from Your Digital Camera
Customer Review: Great starter manual
This is exactly what I was looking for, a book which taught me the basics then applied them to different situations. I feel a lot more confident playing around with the settings on my camera and my photography has improved as a result. I like the way he has taken a photograph for each subject and then explained the settings on the right hand side. After reading the first two chapters I was able to cover up the settings, look at the photograph and predict what he had used. In no time at all I was grasping the logic and gaining confidence. A lovely book for beginners. I cannot recommend it highly enough. I also like the fact that he has explained commonly made errors in composition and lighting and illustrated the flawed results on the same page. I am starting to think about composition in a new way too. My photography skills were in a rut, this book has changed that.

Customer Review: Great for beginners and enthusiastic amateurs!
This is great if you’re keen but need a bit of practical guidance and some inspiration. This books shows you some inspirational shots as guidance and shows you the set up (eg where to stand, where to place your subject etc…) and tells you the ISO, aperture, shutter speed etc… for many of the pictures. It is jargon-free, easy to read and split into useful chapters, including portriats, moving objects, taking pictures of children, close ups, night shots, etc…

People criticising this book have missed the point; it is MEANT to be simple, it isn’t aimed at people who are already pretty proficient at photographs, it is aimed at people like me who are moving on from a compact and need a bit of guidance to get the best from the camera. If that’s you then this is the book for you.

Understanding Exposure: How to Shoot Great Photographs with a Film or Digital Camera

Understanding Exposure: How to Shoot Great Photographs with a Film or Digital Camera
Customer Review: Wow - exposure made easy
I bought this book after reading the reviews…and was rewarded !

I was afraid that it would be too technical but it is indeed explained in an easy to read AND understanding way (I’m not an English native speaker).

The many photographic examples make it easy to ’see’ too.

As an avid amateur I have been experimenting and it’s indeed literally a small price to pay to get nicer photo’s in the end.

Customer Review: Outdated and lightweight
The book is written it a folksy, readable style with lots of anecdotes and will be pleasant reading for non-technical people. Unfortunately once you dig beneath the exterior there’s nothing much there.

It covers the creative aspects of aperture and shutter speed, which you can find out online easily. Most explanations are better than Peterson’s. It gives you some rules of thumb for manual metering, which are mildly useful but wildly out of date for digital photography; he never mentions exposing to the right, nor even histograms. Postprocessing, which changes the way you can think about exposure, barely gets a mention except to be dismissed as too much work. His explanation of how a camera meters and what kind of situations it handles will and poorly is very good though, and the reason I gave 3 stars rather than 2 or even 1.

If you shoot film then I would rate the book a little higher; but no-one comes to photography at this stage to shoot film and this is clearly a beginners book.

Customer Review: Makes the complicated easy!
The Nikon F5 is a professional level camera and as such can be a daunting piece of equipment for the amateur photographer. Sure you can leave in in programmed mode and you’ll be rewarded with well-exposed and accurately focused pictures in most situations - but what about when you’re faced with capturing a tricky scene such as a high contrast landscape or a fast-moving sport? - this book tells you how to use the F5 to its full potential in varying situations and therefore improve your chances of getting that great shot (and so allows you to focus on the content of the picture rather than worry about the technical details). Not only that, but there is real-world advice regarding the plethora of custom settings, effective use of flash, lense choice, etc. - in fact, everything you need to get the most from your F5…
