Customer Review: Camcorder Review
Be aware if you want to edit footage on a computer, it doesn’t come a firewire cable or software CD. I tried to phone Samsung for help and they promised four times to phone me back with a solution, but they never did.

Customer Review: good but misleading - you need more than just this camcorder
If you’re buying this MD160 camcorder as an entry level machine for the start of your budding filmmaking career, it can be a bit misleading. This is my first camcorder and after much research of price and formats (harddrive/DVD/miniDV) I settled for this as good value for money, one of the best features not listed on many is the ability to transfer back to a tape in the camcorder once you’re done. The camera itself is fairly easy to use out of the box with a lot of features buried in its options if you want to be more specific about what you want to shoot or want to just play around. I haven’t had a lot of time to shoot videos but you’re going to hit the biggest hurdles out of the box before you even start anyway. It should have been more readily listed by Canon that you need to already have more than just this camcorder to use it, it doesn’t come with a miniDV tape it doesn’t come with a firewire cable the software it does come with is for use with the SDcard feature only, which is also disappointing in that you can only record video in 10-30 second bursts. The main features I wanted were the ability to shoot video transfer it to my PC for editing. Not only do you have to buy a separate firewire cable to connect your new camcorder to your PC to be able to do this. Here’s where the DM160 instruction Manuel leaves you in the lurch, pointing you to refer to your own software for how to do this essential feature. Windows XP (home edition) comes with windows movie maker as standard and fortunately it is very easy to use that program to transfer your recordings (in .wma file format) to your PC (and back) with enough options to make low quality youtube videos or full TV standard. Other programs like Nero and Adobe Premiere (stores in .AVI format - large files though) can also be used. So make sure you have one of them and more importantly a firewire connection on your PC before you buy this camcorder. As not knowing this with camcorder out of the box was very disconcerting and disappointing for me.
Customer Review: Pretty good for the dosh!
Opted for the more expensive MD160 instead of MD101 for firewire connection (and a few other things). Good miniDV camcorder for those who don’t want to spend a fortune and don’t require HD. Doesn’t do low-light well but can live with that. Also no separate battery charger (charges attached to camera) so that is unusual, haven’t had a problem as bought additional hi-capacity battery, might be an issue with standard battery if you want to record more than an 90mins or so. Bought Sony Vegas 8 as well and quite happily downloading to a Vista pc via firewire. If you want bells and whistles (and to spend more money) this is not for you!

Customer Review: Does it work with iMac or not??
I am looking to upgrade my camcorder to the Sony, and i am buying an iMac so want to make sure the camera works with the imac. I see 3 conflicting reviews for this camera - can someone please tell me if it works with iMac for stills and video It seems that Apple and more importantly Sony do not comment on this simple thing! I would be eternally grateful! thanks
Customer Review: Small in size but big on performance
The Good:world’s smallest full HD camcorder, fits easily in shirt/trouser pocket, easy to operate even if left handed, works well even in low light, well made.Excellent auto focus and superb lens.Lots of manual settings. The Bad:quite expensive, case and HDMI lead not supplied,no mic or earphone jacks,no shoe,a bit heavy for its size and ugly to my eyes, uses expensive sony memory cards. If you want a really small camcorder that shoots excellent video and quite good stills under almost any conditions then look no further as this camcorder out performs any similar/slightly larger size from Sanyo or Panasonic. This is especially so under low level lighting,eg. in bars ,restaurents or clubs.Even though video noise increases it is never too serious and the auto focus still locks on.A Panasonic sd9 or other camcorders in the same range are very poor under these low light conditions with serious video noise and a Sanyo will suffer from a hunting auto focus. The touch sensitive screen is easy to use and there are a large number of manual settings should you need them. However if point and shoot is what you want this camcorder copes superbly under all conditions.I actually give it 4.5 stars.Do not hesitate buy one you will not regret it.

Customer Review: If only it would work properly…
Good features and easy to use - conceptually. But. But. But. It constantly freezes and crashes my PC despite having much more memory and disc space than the minimum specified. My CPU speed should also be more than adequate to do the job. The internet has many reports of people having similar trouble with this software. This is absolutely unacceptable for software which will be used for large time-consuming video editing work, where a failure can be highly irritating to say the least. Pinnacle try to hide behind various excuses, mainly blaming the heavy computational load of video editing. That is rubbish. Properly written software would just run more slowly - it would not, repeat, not crash. The software concept must be fatally flawed. After a week of struggling I gave up and bought Sony Vegas instead. I have been using Vegas every day for two weeks now without a single freeze or crash. However, note that Sony Vegas is more complex to use and so has a steeper initial learning curve.

Customer Review: Pretty good!
I got this camera a few weeks back, and I have to say that I’ve been delighted with the results. As has been mentioned before, the picture quality drops in very low light situations, and if you want to film on the highest zooms then you’ll need steadier hands than mine(or a tripod)! But, all in all it’s worked very well for me indoors and out. One of the appeals of flash memory for me is the ease of transferring video on to a laptop. I can’t comment on how it performs with a card reader, but the device itself imports the data quickly and with the minimum of fuss, although you have to keep the camera plugged in to the mains whilst you do it. I’d read that some people had had issues importing to iMovie on a Mac - no problems here for me. I’m not too sure why Canon have bothered with the FS10 & 11 models as the price of flash storage makes them overly expensive, but that’s their decision! All in all, if you’re looking for a very compact, lightweight, easy to use and cheap flash memory camcorder, you could do a lot worse than this little number.
Customer Review: Grainy and lots of noice at low light
I bought this camcorder because of the Canon’s reputation for poor light performance, but I am disappointed, too grainy and lots of noice at low lit situations. Avoid this if you want to do filming indoors. good points are , very good quality at ideal lighting conditions Zoom is very good( I can’t find much quality difference at say 1X and at 45X).

Sony DSC-T3 Cybershot Digital Camera [5MP 3xOptical] - 2.5″ LCD
Customer Review: Small camera, big potential.
I bought this camera two years ago and have loved it ever since. The design, for a start, is sleek and smart. The smallness and thinness of the camera enables you to fit into the pocket easily (and without looking obvious that there’s something inside bulking), saving you from taking it in and out of your bag constantly and/or engaging one of your hands constantly which you may need to use. Many people have also praised the design of the T3, which makes me, the owner, feel extremely proud! However - do not let the smallness mislead you! It is quite heavy for such a small camera, which lets you know that there’s a lot going on inside there and that it isn’t as weak as it may seem. You have control of the light that goes in, many different modes you can shoot in (best to keep it at program where you can play around with everything), white balance that is good for daytime but not-so-good for nighttime, and a - this is good - number of of picture-recording modes! When fast things are happening and you don’t want to miss it (e.g. blooming fireworks), it is advised to use the burst modes as it will capture the flavour of them. I also want to praise the movie-recoding mode in the T3. I can record for unlimited time and have clear voice playback. It may not seem so loud on the camera but once transferred onto the computer, you’ll be surprised at the volume! And, the flash may appear as a thin strip of light next to the lens, but do not be fooled into thinking it emits a weak light. It is extremely powerful and lights up the object very well. Not the background contents though. But that’s okay! ‘Cos the subject is clear and sharp and unlike most flashes on subjects, it does not overexpose the subject so that it gives a washed-out effect. The colours from the camera are reasonably good. It works best on a sunny day, taking in all the colours and sometimes making it more vivid & interesting; and average on a dull day, but manages to make the best of it. Don’t be disappointed on those dull days though, as portraiture is best shot then because the light isn’t so harsh on the person. I also love how the lens does not stupidly poke out of the camera when you soon. This means that in a crowd, nobody can catch on it and knock it off. Without it sticking out, it does everything a lens that stick out will do. Why I only gave it 4 stars is the tempramental light changes. Even when nothing changes in the environment, the sensor is extremely sensitive and you wll find that the LCD sometimes may go from bright to dark (and vice versa). A way to get around this is to set the EV to compensate. But after menu-digging (another problem) and testing the lightness against the steps, the moment may already be gone, or people may have stood in the way for the shot. I also gave it 4 stars because after 2 years of shooting, somewhere in the middle the camera’s ’semi-manual’ settings had pushed me into wanting a camera with more precision and choices. So along the lines, I had to spend a large amount of time test-shooting and selecting the settings to take the picture I want. But bear in mind this is only when you’re a super control-freak like I am. If you just want to take point-and-shoot with the quality and control of the top band, then the T3 is for you. [..]
Customer Review: The Sony DSC-T3 is a pleasure to use- most of the time.
I have owned the T3 for about 9 months and have found it generally very satisfactory. The single greatest plus factor is its size. It fits easily into a pocket and so is always available for use when required. The large screen size is easy to see in most light conditions. The printed picture quality is very good. I find the menu system a bit difficult to navigate, especially when tryng to seize a picture opportunity in a hurry, but the printed manual is excellent. The only problem I have found with the camera is that it performs unreliably under hot humid conditions. I recently took it to The Carribbean, where it refused to work at all when the temperature was in the 80s and the humidity was high. Normal operation resumed as soon as it was again in cooler conditions. Sony have refused to address this problem as it is an intermittent problem and would not show up on their laboratory testing. A shame when the performance of such an excellent product is in question.
