Customer Review: A very good camera which has not let me down
I have owned this camera for over a year now, with holidays and weddings filmed. So far I have to say that it has been really good value for money. The picture is very good, it has a 40x optical zoom (you will need a tripod if using) and the touch screen is very simple to use with some useful features. I’m not an expert on cameras so this is perfect for filming home movies (decent or otherwise!), holiday stills and footage plus I have recently filmed a wedding which came out really well. The 30gb of memory means that you can literally film for years without having to clear it and it is easy to upload onto a laptop. My suggestion though is that you ensure you have a recent laptop as it struggled with my girl friends lower spec toshiba, which is relatively new. Its also very compact which means that you dont have to worry about it taking up space plus the bag as part of the package ensures I can keep all together. The battery lasts about 90mins on normal filming so I would recommend getting a spare as I have been caught out a few times. Overall a really good camera and if your not a budding david bailey then this will certainly provide good value for money.

Customer Review: A Versatile and Well Designed Camcorder
Having used a Sony Hi8 analogue camcorder since 1997 I thought it was time to upgrade to digital. I’ve had my DCR-SR32 now for about six weeks and as an easy to use, very compact machine I am very pleased with my purchase. The 40X zoom is very impressive and the convenience of being able to switch easily between video and still mode is most useful. I feel that when I am more conversant with the touch screen it will be an efficient way to access the many features available on this camera. A couple of gripes though, firstly : if,like me,you like to start and finish scenes by fading in and out, access to the fade out is very fiddly. Fading in is fine as this is accessed befofe starting to film but fade out (which must be done while the camera is running) takes 3 screen touches to access, during which it is virtually impossible not to shake the camera. Secondly: the supplied software is fine for stills but woefully inadequate for movie footage. In order to edit your films it would be neccessary to use a commercial video editing suite. To summarise, I’m on the whole quite pleased with my new camera add if it lasts me as long as my previous machine and is as reliable , then I will be extremely satisfied with my purchase.

Samsung DVD Camcorder with 2.7″ LCD Display
Amazon Price: ?131.32
Customer Review: Does the job.
When the camcorder arrived I was pleasantly surprised at how small and lightweight it is. It is extremely simple to use although the battery life is terrible - about an hour. The zoom is good but the image shakes a lot when you have it on maximum zoom. The lens cover doesn’t come attached with a string so I lost that on the day I got it. The sound quality is fairly good but you can’t really hear it if you play it back on the camcorder rather than a tv or laptop. The picture quality is good but filming in dark conditions doesn’t produce a good picture. Overall, I’d recommend this camcorder because it’s value for money, lightweight and produces good videos. You will have to have a collection of spare batteries with you or alternatively take the charger with you.

Panasonic - NV-GS60 - Mini DV Camcorder

Panasonic - NV-GS60 - Mini DV Camcorder
Customer Review: Excellent value
Just bought this from my local Sainsbury’s who have these for ?118 - just a little cheaper than Amazon at the moment 1/03/08.

The value is excellent - understand this is not a top of the line High definition camcorder it is a basic easy to use, easy to carry piece of kit. Certainly very easy to get both this and a small digicam in the same easy to carry bag.

The picture quality is more than acceptable - though noticeably poorer than the previous Panasonic camcorder I had but that cost a lot more than a ?120!!. It is certainly better than indicated in a previous review claiming it is worse than a mobile phone - I’m afraid that is very wide of the mark.

Works a treat with the video capture function included in Windows Vista though for some reason I get an irritating sound ‘click’ right at the end of the capture. It only happens there not on any stops or pauses in the video - it is not on the tape itself so I am working on the basis this is a PC/Vista issue and nothing at all to do with the camera. It is easy to edit out using Windows movie maker so its no big deal.

Note as in common with many other camcorders you do not get a Fire-wire cable included - they don’t cost the earth, even when buying a good quality one so I don’t really count this as an issue. I had one anyway so not a problem for me.

The controls are a breeze, particularly the thumb operated joystick from which you control all the main functions.

The only neg I can find is the start up time when in recording mode - it does seem to take longer than my previous Panasonic model which served me well for nearly ten years.

I am amazed at how small camcorders have become - even DV ones like this - my previous one was significantly bulkier than this dinky little thing. Any smaller and I would think it would be quite difficult to handle - the size is perfect for my largish hands.

You also get a number of pre-set scene options which is handy or you can just point and shoot.

All in all I am very happy so far - it is early days but I remain a big fan of Panasonic products which I general find to be durable and reliable - I’m hoping for the same with this.

Customer Review: Panasonic GS60
Bought my Panasonic GS60 camcorder from Amazon. I read all the reviews, looked at the Sony, the JVC, and finally went for the Panasonic. I’m glad I did! It’s a great camera, compact (it will fit into a large pocket), very well made, nice looking, and easy to use. The sound and picture quality are both very good. One of the best features is the excelent wide angle lense, great for inside shots.

Minus points (and at this price I’m being very picky) no where to attach a light, and it doesn’t take a memory card (which I never use anyway).

Thanks for your review Dave!

Customer Review: Does what it says it does
I am not sure what the other user here is talking about as I have no problems with lighting issues with this camera and have found it responsive and really easy to use. I purchased this camcorder because I wanted the long record time and the nightshot feature for my hobby. There is only really one problem I have had with this camcorder is that it does not have a mic jack socket which is a big disadvantage if you, like me, make short films and use a radio mic. You can get a mic that slots into the ’shoe’ on top of the camcorder but, of course this can get expensive. All in all this camcorder does what it says it does without too many bells and whistles.
Customer Review: Experience with Sony DCR-SR75E
I purchesed this camera just before going on a cruising holiday to the mediteranean. This was a disaster an absolutly uselss product. Users can only film it in dull light. In the sun where we were [high reflections etc.] all you can see on the screen is your own image. There is no view finder rendering the whole experience usless. Annoyingly is has an on button which is difficult to move, a tempermntal focus adjustment, a screen with press controls very hard to learn and generally a poor set up. On return I took the camera back on my first day and got my money back fortunatly. Discussing the problem with another retailer the assistant knew exactly what the problem was he said it was well known. Cutting out the viewfinder was a classic error. Now for the first time I have no proper film of our holiday very disapointing. Don’t waste your money on this item. Sony should be ashamed of itself.

How to Photograph the Moon and Planets with Your Digital Camera (Patrick Moore’s Practical Astronomy Series)

How to Photograph the Moon and Planets with Your Digital Camera (Patrick Moore’s Practical Astronomy Series)
Customer Review: Good advice from starting from page 1
What I really like about this book is that on the first night of picking it up I was able to take some good picture of the Moon and Venus (landscape type picture since they were close together). The other aspect is the detail of items to search for on the moon, this is good cause my telescope is only 80mm and really the moon is the only decent object to view (apologies to experts of imaging with webcams). So rather than be-moan the lack of technical equipment I can focus my efforts on something that is achievable.

Customer Review: How to Photograph the Moon and Planets with your Digital Camera
This very practical volume, by amateur astronomer Dr Tony Buick, does all it says in the title - and much more. The reader is encouraged to snap away merrily, taking advantage of the Moon’s wobbles, to capture unusual shots that would even have ‘wowed’ Galileo.

Useful extras are tips on image improvements, and summaries of the various theories of the origins of the Earth & Moon, and the moons of other planets. Regions & craters on the Moon are listed and superbly illustrated, as are lunar landings, transits & eclipses.Locals will be delighted at the inclusion of the Otford Planetary Model, which now extends around the World. Publication in paperback version is timely,

as the race for the Moon is renewed.

Customer Review: Best so Far
This field guide will appeal to beginners through to the serious amateur. It covers all the technical stuff as well as some good guidance on photography in general. If you have recently purchased the 40D and wanted a good book then this is it. If I had to be picky then my only criticism is the continued reference to L series lenses, which whilst ideal are often out of financial reach for many. You can get some very good results with some cheaper lenses.

Digital SLR Cameras & Photography for Dummies (For Dummies)

Digital SLR Cameras & Photography for Dummies (For Dummies)
Customer Review: A worse dummy than I thought!
I think I must need a ‘Total Idiot’s Guide’ as this was not what I thought it would be.

Being a complete beginner with dSLR, I thought this book would be a step-by-step guide on ‘How To….’ I was a bit wide of the mark - although the book says a lot about why you should do this over that, etc it left me lost on how to actually do it. So I’m using my camera on Auto until my Nikon book arrives. Let’s hope I’ll have more success with that one.

Customer Review: excellent book
Bought the book on the strength of the previous two reviews as I’ve not really been keen on the “dummies” books previously.

This one, though, is excellent. If you’ve spent a chunk of money on a new digital camera (like my EOS 40d!) you really should spend another ?10 and read this, and actually start to understand how it all works! (If you’re already expert then you won’t be needing this, but understanding even how the digital sensor works is really interesting)

It’s printed on good quality glossy paper (unlike some of the dummies books) and includes some really nice images.

Well worth it

Customer Review: canon 350 mamual
only buy this book if you have bought the 350 without a manual, otherwise your wasting your money only found about 4 things in this book that the 350’s manual didn’t tell me about. so prints a bit bigger so easier to read but thats about the only benefit.
Customer Review: Everybody is right - this is a must for 350D owners
Having used Canon film SLR’s my leap into digital was also going to be down the Canon road, and I am very pleased indeed with the 350D. However, as is the case nowadays with anything and everything electronic you purchase, even software (such as Corel or Adobe), 3rd party manuals always seem to be better, and this book is no execption. It’s small format makes it easy to ready anywhere and not so daunting either. I do have a couple of books that you really need to sit down and prepare to read - this is informative and easy to read. Got a 350D… Get this.
