Digicool Digital Camera Kit

Digicool Digital Camera Kit
Customer Review: Is this real?
This is so great, it has kept the 10 yr old quiet for weeks, producing all sorts of strange images, filming her little sister and even my 38 yr old brother wants one becoz it’s such a good camera for a ridiculously cheap price. This is a genuine value for money toy, the instructions are super simple and it’s robust (although you need to get a shoe box to keep the bits in - and we broke the stand within minutes). But that aside, this is excellent, i thought it would be rubbish but DK pull it off once again.

Canon PowerShot A540 - Digital camera - 6.0 Mpix - optical zoom: 4 x - supported memory: MMC, SD
Customer Review: You get more than you pay for
At first I was dissapointed with the size of the camera, it’s not the best looker in the world. But boy has it got some features _ I will be happy to use it in manual mode all the time so that I can adjust it for depth of field or low light just as I can on my old SLR and the thing is it it so simple to operate - that is after the intial set-up. I don’t know why manufacturers have to use cute icons instead of words as you have to keep going to the manual (no book here it is in pdf format off a CD) so it is tedious, but once done to the settings you want it is then so easy to operate. If you don’t want the advanced settings then the point and shoot auto features and handy dial for night shots, portraits and lanscape etc are ideal - at the end of the day you would find it hard to see any real difference between the pre-sets and manual shots. In closing I think that despite its looks you and lack of intuitive set-up you are getting an awful lot for your money in the quality if the shots. It also has a whole load of storage and printing programs on the CD that comes with it - you will love them or hate them, although there is a nice stitch utility that wil put several pictures into a panoramic view. Last thing - it uses good old AA batteries (this contributes to the overal size odf course)so it deosn’t matter where you are in the world you can get hold of them plus it takes cheap MMC memory cards as well as SD card. I think we are both going to be very happy - word of warning get hold of a hard case to protect it, it is quite heavy and therefore will not survive a fall (like my last camera didn’t).

Shooting Digital: Pro Tips for Taking Great Pictures with Your Digital Camera

Shooting Digital: Pro Tips for Taking Great Pictures with Your Digital Camera
Customer Review: Not the best you can buy.
My actual rating for this book is 2.5 stars. Here is why:
For a book about photography, it has very uninspiring photos. They do demonstrate the points the author is trying to convey, but the photos are average at best. I am certainly not a pro, but a lot of my snapshots look better than most of the photos in this book. While the author does a rather good job explaining different factors that contribute to exposure, his tips are not of “pro” level:
“Position yourself and your camera in relation to the subject carefully, and with forethought” (46).
“Learn to anticipate the right moment to shoot through careful observation and knowledge of the subject” (46). I personally do not find this sort of advice very useful. Throughout the book (aimed at beginner), the author devotes a great deal of time to discussing electronic strobes and soft boxes (equipment which is not readily available to a beginner), while not enough place is given to working with natural light. I don’t know about you, but I have no undiffused strobe of medium height nor do I have an interest in purchasing one. When discussing processing, he avoids going to detail and constantly self-markets his other book, Photoshop Elements 2 Solutions.

You do learn something from this book, but I had much better and more useful experiences with other works in this genre. If you are looking for a comprehensive guide to digital photography (beginner or intermediate), I would look somewhere else.

Customer Review: Basic guide to taking better pictures with a digital slant
‘Shooting Digital’ is an excellent introduction to the world of digital photography for a new camera owner who wants to get that little bit more out of their equipment. Beautifully illustrated, it explains the underlying concepts of digital pictures as well as the basics of photographic technique. But this book does not offer anything that is not available in other books or - for the enterprising - by trawling the internet for free information.

This book makes an ideal gift for a recent camera owner. It’s aimed at any digital camera user, from relatively cheap 1 megapixel point and shoot equipment to top level Canon and Nikon digital SLRs. The focus is on practically taking better photographs, and it is a useful introduction to equipment, use of zoom and flash, colour, composition and particular challenges.

We liked the high production values - superb print, clear layout, attractive design and superlative pictures. We were less keen on the relatively unambitious approach to going further.

Overall a good buy, and something to enjoy browsing through. But this is not a reference book and is something that you will probably leave behind as your photography progresses.

Canon DCC-60 Soft Leather Case For Digital IXUS 30, 40, 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 75 & 80
your digital camera with a stylish leather case.Genuine Canon DCC-60 Soft Leather Case for Digital IXUS. Compatible for Digital IXUS 30, 40, 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 75 & 80
Amazon Price: ?13.09
Used Price: ?6.99
Customer Review: Case won’t protect your camera against damage
This case does not work to protect the camera against damage. I’ve owned a Canon IXUS 60, with this soft leather case, for just over 18 months. This case is the one that Canon recommends for use with that camera (though as Georgie Pillson and John Lewis note, the case switches the camera to movie mode every time it’s taken out of the bag). I have always been extremely careful with my camera: whenever it’s out of the case the cord is looped round my wrist. I’ve never had any damage caused to the camera when it was out of the case. But, twice now, when the camera was in its “protective” case, the screen at the back has been damaged. On the first occasion, I discussed the damage with Canon and was eventually faced with their clear statement that they had no reason to believe I was telling the truth when I said the camera was in the case when the screen was damaged, so they would not compensate me for the damage. The repair was expensive but slightly less so than buying a new camera: I paid the bill. (The screen appeared to be literally cracked - no image was visible. It was buy a new screen or buy a new camera.) The second occasion, much more recent: the screen is not broken, but seriously blurred, as if a permanent shadow is lying across it. Again: the screen was fine when I put it into the protective case - the damage occurred when the camera was inside the protective case. I may instead buy a new camera, and it will not be a Canon, though I like the design of the Ixus: I have no time for companies that recommend protective cases which do not protect, and which tell customers reporting problems with the protective cases that they are lying about the problem.
Customer Review: Too big for a little camera
OK, so this is a good quality case well made from high quality material, but it’s just too damn large. The camera is about 35% the thickness of the case! I bought the IXUS because it is a pocket sized camera but there’s nothing pocket sized about this case.
