Panasonic - NV-GS60 - Mini DV Camcorder

Panasonic - NV-GS60 - Mini DV Camcorder
Customer Review: Excellent value
Just bought this from my local Sainsbury’s who have these for ?118 - just a little cheaper than Amazon at the moment 1/03/08.

The value is excellent - understand this is not a top of the line High definition camcorder it is a basic easy to use, easy to carry piece of kit. Certainly very easy to get both this and a small digicam in the same easy to carry bag.

The picture quality is more than acceptable - though noticeably poorer than the previous Panasonic camcorder I had but that cost a lot more than a ?120!!. It is certainly better than indicated in a previous review claiming it is worse than a mobile phone - I’m afraid that is very wide of the mark.

Works a treat with the video capture function included in Windows Vista though for some reason I get an irritating sound ‘click’ right at the end of the capture. It only happens there not on any stops or pauses in the video - it is not on the tape itself so I am working on the basis this is a PC/Vista issue and nothing at all to do with the camera. It is easy to edit out using Windows movie maker so its no big deal.

Note as in common with many other camcorders you do not get a Fire-wire cable included - they don’t cost the earth, even when buying a good quality one so I don’t really count this as an issue. I had one anyway so not a problem for me.

The controls are a breeze, particularly the thumb operated joystick from which you control all the main functions.

The only neg I can find is the start up time when in recording mode - it does seem to take longer than my previous Panasonic model which served me well for nearly ten years.

I am amazed at how small camcorders have become - even DV ones like this - my previous one was significantly bulkier than this dinky little thing. Any smaller and I would think it would be quite difficult to handle - the size is perfect for my largish hands.

You also get a number of pre-set scene options which is handy or you can just point and shoot.

All in all I am very happy so far - it is early days but I remain a big fan of Panasonic products which I general find to be durable and reliable - I’m hoping for the same with this.

Customer Review: Panasonic GS60
Bought my Panasonic GS60 camcorder from Amazon. I read all the reviews, looked at the Sony, the JVC, and finally went for the Panasonic. I’m glad I did! It’s a great camera, compact (it will fit into a large pocket), very well made, nice looking, and easy to use. The sound and picture quality are both very good. One of the best features is the excelent wide angle lense, great for inside shots.

Minus points (and at this price I’m being very picky) no where to attach a light, and it doesn’t take a memory card (which I never use anyway).

Thanks for your review Dave!

Customer Review: Does what it says it does
I am not sure what the other user here is talking about as I have no problems with lighting issues with this camera and have found it responsive and really easy to use. I purchased this camcorder because I wanted the long record time and the nightshot feature for my hobby. There is only really one problem I have had with this camcorder is that it does not have a mic jack socket which is a big disadvantage if you, like me, make short films and use a radio mic. You can get a mic that slots into the ’shoe’ on top of the camcorder but, of course this can get expensive. All in all this camcorder does what it says it does without too many bells and whistles.
Customer Review: Experience with Sony DCR-SR75E
I purchesed this camera just before going on a cruising holiday to the mediteranean. This was a disaster an absolutly uselss product. Users can only film it in dull light. In the sun where we were [high reflections etc.] all you can see on the screen is your own image. There is no view finder rendering the whole experience usless. Annoyingly is has an on button which is difficult to move, a tempermntal focus adjustment, a screen with press controls very hard to learn and generally a poor set up. On return I took the camera back on my first day and got my money back fortunatly. Discussing the problem with another retailer the assistant knew exactly what the problem was he said it was well known. Cutting out the viewfinder was a classic error. Now for the first time I have no proper film of our holiday very disapointing. Don’t waste your money on this item. Sony should be ashamed of itself.
