Customer Review: Great Choice - Nice Camera…
What a smart camera for the enthusiast.I bought this for my wife for a christmas present and she loved its compact size and weight.I acknowledge that its not an slr but its such a step up from a regular digital camera. The picture quality is great but you do have to play around with the settings a little for indoor use.Outdoors just leave it in auto and everything should be fine!. I’m no expert but this does the job for general family use, with occasional attempts at portrait and landscape shots. My advice is if you want expert pictures, you will need to spend hundreds of pounds more and will more than likely still be reading the handbook by next christmas!!.If its a general all rounder then this camera should fit your bill.
Customer Review: Big Mistake!
I made the big mistake of selling my older FinePix S7000 to finance this ‘upgrade’. On paper the specification is great, and there is a useful feature for combining multiple exposures on one picture for use on Ebay listings etc. It is a nice size and more compact than the S7000, but it feels ‘flimsy’ by comparison. Unfortunately, this was confirmed when the mode selector dial fell off without any rough treatment after only a few weeks. The camera has now been returned to Amazon for a refund, and I think I’ll be saving up for a D80 or something more robust. Summary - If you’ve got a FinePix S7000 - DON’T UPGRADE IT TO THIS!!!

Customer Review: A five star+ product
Wow! This is a stunning camera. Pocket size, attractive, simple initial set up, easy to use with an easily accessible menu, quick and easy transfer of pics to computer. The quality of pics taken in all the conditions of my recent cruise holiday - including night time partying and scenery through the window of a speeding coach - is superb, but the pictures I’ve taken of my little granddaughter, using face detection, are just outstanding…even on a 39″ television screen. This camera costs ?149 in Argos, I paid ?109 at Amazon and I see it’s even cheaper now. What a bargain! Footnote: My partner fancied something large and masculine for himself, but he’s so impressed by my new Fuji he’s going to buy himself a silver one!

The D40X is a lightweight and portable camera that proves that it can be both incredibly simple and tremendous fun to shoot images with a Nikon digital SLR. You only need to turn on the cameras AUTO mode, look through the clear, bright viewfinder and shoot. The D40X responds fast so you can capture moments as they unfold, and its 10.2 megapixel resolution and world-class Nikkor lens deliver consistently sharp, vibrant images. The Help menus are available at the press of a button and work like a built-in instruction manual, with advice and directions for every camera setting. With every feature, button and menu designed to work together for a smooth, seamless performance, the D40X will bring out the best in you and your images.

Customer Review: Great entry-level DSLR, but crippled by lack of exposure bracketing
The Nikon D40X is probably among the best value-for-money cameras around. The ergonomics of this camera are simply unbeatable by almost any camera at any price. Just watch out for one thing, though. With High Dynamic Range (HDR) imaging becoming more and more popular, and the software to do it becoming cheaper and more widely available, it’s perhaps surprising that Nikon have chosen to cripple the D40X by segmenting their products in such a way that you must spend double or triple the money to obtain this simple software feature. I recently bought the D40X, and although I am ecstatic with it otherwise, just be sure to satisfy yourself that you won’t ever find yourself wishing that you too could create gorgeous high dynamic range photos. There are workarounds, mostly involving pseudo-hdr that mean taking a raw image and adjusting the exposure - it’s not the same.
Customer Review: Beware ordering from 3rd partry seller
Ordered this as a “brand new” item and not from the “used and new” link. Ordered accessories to go with it directly from amazon. Received an email the next week to say the 3rd party seller (Pixmania) had sold out and I could go back to amazon and re-order. The price has now increased by ?63. The call centre tell me this probably wasn’t brand new anyway! I would love to give this 5 stars but I haven’t got it! So beware ordering when it’s not directly from amazon as amazon will not honour the mistakes of their vendors.
