Customer Review: Vegas 8
Just upgraded to Vegas 8.

As usual - very stable. It remains the fastest way of editing video on a PC (not tried Final Cut Pro on the Mac). Works fine on HD.

And they’ve now caught up other editors in this realese on titling - which was about Vegas’s only weak spot.

I can now officially use this software on Vista - though v7 seemed to work fine anyway.
For a DVD camcorder this is brilliant as it uses Optical Image Stabilisation which corrects any potential handshake when shooting, the zoom is more than enough when filming any type of shot, and when I have finished I simply popped it into the DVD player so my family and I could re watch our special Xmas Day all over again
Customer Review: Good camera - if you can view the pictures
As a novice to DVD camcorders, I obviously didn’t research the right things. This camera is easy to use, BUT if you record in Video Recording format (VR) which is the only way you can use the built in software to edit your film, then the results can’t be viewed on your computer unless you have Power DVD, aren’t compatible with Windows Movie Maker, and can’t be viewed on most DVD players. It took me two days of trawling through web forums to work this out, as the instruction book only says “can be played on compatible…” without being at all specific. If you record in video format, you can watch on your DVD player, or on your computer, but can’t edit in the camera, and the files are still not compatible with Windows Movie Maker. So - I will need to buy software to convert, edit and then burn back to DVD. I’m currently looking at AVS - any advice would be welcome.

Customer Review: Does not do what it promises
This piece of kit sounds wonderful in theory but despite having a PC with all the right specs for the job. I have been trying for 5 days to get it to capture from my analogue camcorder. It can only be done in MPEG format if you sacrifice the ability to preview as it captures which defeats the object of being able to choose your own scene cuts. Otherwise you have to capture in AVI format which takes up 5 times as much hard disk space. Also the Instant DVD recorder is anything but instant and in fact never recorded anything on my DVD at all.

Beware, there are other products on the market which although cheaper will get the job done better.

This model, offering its small size, light weight and superb mobility made possible by SD/SDHC Memory Cards, let users shoot video with the same casual ease and carry-about convenience they enjoy with small digital still cameras. A waterproof design, taking advantage of the SD/SDHC Memory Card’s water resistance, lets you use the SW20 underwater to a depth of 1.5 meters. The SW20 can even be used in seawater, so users can take moving images of friends snorkelling or tropical fish darting in and out of coral reefs. You can use the SW20 at a beach, ski resort, and in a host of other active, outdoor situations where you wouldn’t dare use a conventional camcorder.
Amazon Price: ?259.99
Continue …

When recording there is a wavy line on the bottom of the screen, the auto focus doesn’t work properly and the battery life is terrible. By far the worst problem is that it keeps crashing when it is being used with the charger plugged in and spoiling the video. In fact the charging system seems to be terribly amateurish in design; it doesn’t indicate it is charging at all when the camera is switched on and will only give you battery levels by way of a flashing LED when it is switched off so you don’t really know whether its fully charged or not. The picture quality is very grainy and it seems to need strong light to give any reasonable quality at all. Every now and then the zoom facility gets its tights in a tangle and it refuses to focus at all. However it is cheap and easy to use so that’s in its favour. For someone who just wants holiday videos and isn’t too concerned about quality, or for someone just starting out in video then its a good buy. It does work its just that it isn’t very good.
Customer Review: Jury’s Out
My experience with this product has not been great. I bought at the ?200 price, I was initially very disappointed with the battery charge, when recording in normal mode, I got nothing like the time specifified in the manual for a full charge. Then, on my 3rd recording, the camcorder developed a fault, with the DVD-RW going round continually when you power on, and there was NOTHINGA i could do to stop it, remove the disk etc, tried everything, including removing batteries. So I had to send it back. I hope I have not been silly, in asking for a new camcorder rather than a refund, but hope springs eternal. By the way, my disappointment is with Samsung - amazon were outstanding, not only the good price which everyone notes here, but this is the first return I have made in c 7 years of custom, and I was super-impressed with how easy it is to make a return. First class service
Continue …

It accelerates performances on all levels, ensuring low energy consumption so you can take more photos on a fully charged battery, and comes with a 2.5? LCD screen and 0.94x zoom so you can focus easily. The D80 includes a host of advanced features such as the built-in flash control mode, the image touch-up menu and slideshow creation programmes with different music transition and fader effects (Pictmotion), so you can make your creations your very own. In short, the Nikon D80 has been specially designed for photo fans, traditional SLR camera owners or anyone looking to start out in the world of compact or bridge digital photography.
List Price: ?699.99
Amazon Price: ?499.18
Customer Review: Excellent Prosumer Digital SLR
In short, an excellent choice if you’re an enthusiatic amatuer who can’t justify the cost of a professional DSLR. I bought this camera to replace my ageing Minolta film SLR, having promised myself that I’d wait until good quality DSLRs broke the 10 mega-pixel barrier at a reasonable price before parting with my cash. Minolta stopped producing SLRs a few years ago (replaced by Sony I think, which is an unknown quantity to me), so I decided to look at other brands. I’ve had a Nikon Coolpix point-and-shoot digital for some years which I’ve been very pleased with, so I plumped for a Nikon DSLR. As an amatuer, I wanted a camera that is versatile, reasonably portable and of high quality. I also wanted something that would allow me to explore Digital SLR fully (point-and-shoot digital isn’t the same of course, and the fast feedback you get with DSLR compared to film is wonderful). Given my budget and the current Nikon range, this came down to either the D80 or the D200. The D200 is very impressive, but I just couldn’t justify the extra ?300 or so that it costs and decided this was best spent on a better lense. Not only that, but the D80 is very close in specification to the D200. For me, the additional features of the D200 were just not worth the extra ?300 given what I will use the camera for. So I went with the D80 and the excellent Nikon 18-200 VR lense and have not been disappointed. Nikon don’t offer this body/lense combination as a kit, so I had to buy separately which of course ups the cost somewhat, but it’s worth it I think. Most of my images stay on the PC and the exceptional ones get printed up to A3 format for display. Resolution wise, the D80 seems to handle this with ease. The camera is a dream to use, and in the short time that I’ve had it I’ve had excellent results. As others have said, the camera oozes good quality, and this applies not only to the finish/controls but also under the hood as well. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
Customer Review: I love this camera!
I love this camera, having had it for almost one year. Yes, it is a bit heavier than similar offerings from Canon, Sony and Olympus but this is due to it’s build quality! Dslrs are not pocket cameras! They will have to take some rough and tumble and the extra weight helps the camera balance when used with larger lenses. I particularly like the extra bright viewfinder, very important and much superior to the Canon Eos 400D. I bought this camera with the excellent 18-200vr and really love this lens. This is not a lens review but remember, when you buy a Dslr, you are buying into a camera range. It’s essential to look at what accessories are available and Nikon do not disappoint in this area. There are 11 autofocus points which should be enough for anyone. Noise control at 400 iso is excellent and is available up to 3200 but is very noisy, so only for emergencies. The D80 has a whole host of in-camera adjustments for adjusting images although I prefer to do this in Photoshop. I think I will be happy with this camera for a few years yet. This does everything I want it to (takes sharp, low noise, well exposed pictures) and of course, reading the manual is essential to make the best use of all the features but it still isn’t difficult for someone used to film SLRs to pick this camera up and start shooting straight away. I have bought the SB600 flash which is superb and the 50mm 1.8 lens which is superb for low light. The camera has reduced in price and the weight is not an issue unless you’re a total wimp! I bought this instead of the Canon 400D as it has better build quality, a better viewfinder and spot metering, Canons usually only have a partial metering option. It is very comfortable to hold, whereas it’s competitors can feel too small and plasticky. And then there is the 18-200VR lens. Canon have nothing like this and as most people have concerns about lugging lenses around, this is an almost do-it-all solution! The Canon 40D has great build quality but in reviews appears to have no better image quality than the 400D and comes with a hefty price tag.

I selected the MD235 over the MD160 as it was cheaper and I didn’t need a still photo feature. Also, the camera records in widescreen as standard & has an optional mic input which may come in handy in the future. Straight out of the box, I found the camera was easy to use. The camera is light and compact. The zoom is quick and focussing reasonably rapid though low light performance isn’t that good with the “LCD light” practically useless. The playback and image quality is lovely and colours are vibrant and lively. On the LCD, the joystick menu system works better for me than Sony’s touchscreen technology as it’s a easier to navigate the menus. All in all, very pleased and would recommend highly. I also bought DVK-203 Accessory Kit (Extended Life Battery, Carry Case & Tape) which helped get things going too. The camera doesn’t come with a firewire cable so I ordered one too…
Read more..

To perfect the ergonomics and the incredible technology of this ultra-lightweight camcorder (weighing only 460 grams minus the battery), Sony gives you the option of watching your video creations on your HD-ready TV via the HDMi output (HDMi cable not included). Plus, the HDR-SR5 camcorder is compatible with memory cards so you can take photos in 2304 x 1296 pixel resolution. With Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround sound, the HDR-SR5 is also equipped with a 2.7? touch screen for precise focus. Pictbridge-compatible, this camcorder can print photos with a compatible printer directly, without the need for a computer. With the HDR-SR5, Sony has launched a camcorder packed with cutting-edge video technology.
Used Price: ?416.99
Customer Review: Very good, but the HD?
I got this camera the other day and sent it back. Don’t get me wrong, it’s really good, but I was after a Full-HD camcorder (1920×1080), not 1440×1080. If you’re not bothered about the resolution, then this camera is for you. Great image and sound quality with lots of functions.
Customer Review: I’ve never seen anything like it!!
If you can afford this camera then please buy it. I just received this as a very generous birthday present and I must say im in awe! the quality when hooked up to a HD tv is absolutely incredible. I cant speak about whether it is the best, or whether others work better on 1080p or whatever. All i can say is that whether its indoors or outdoors, rain or shine, day or night (it has night vision) this camera produces ridiculously good results. It is easy to hook up to your telly or pc through a stand that comes with it. One-touch dvd burning (although it says to put the dvds into blu ray players, not into dvd players. I guess when blu ray becomes more widespread you’ll be able to burn straight onto blu ray discs)…this is one thing i havent tried yet since i dont have dvd-rw discs at home at the moment. I want to burn it on to a dvd and put it on my ps3 to see the quality. 40gb harddrive is a treat, batter life is good as is the camera. But for me its the size that makes it so incredible. Its a compact, light machine that delivers incredible results. Buy in confidence, since i do not bother writing reviews unless i am really impressed or disgusted by a product.when it comes to digital cameras i prefer canon, but with this you cannot go wrong. amazing!

High definition, crystal clear videos with a 5.1 surround sound! that is truly amazing! but please, think twice before buying this one if you don’t have an HD ready plasma or LCD as it might disappoint you during playback on a tele which is not HD ready because this is what your paying for, the High Definition. hope you will enjoy yours like i do.

It’s very small, but is well padded and you can use a neck strap or belt attachment. I prefer the belt bit myself, as that fits nicely on to a rucksack waistbelt, or even your trouser belt. It’s a rugged little thing and does the job perfectly. I use it with an Ixus 75, which fits snugly, including a spare battery and card.
Customer Review: The Business!
I had a Lowepro case for my old Camera and it was good - but this one is even better! I sell these often with Cameras and it makes people laugh when I demonstrate the waterproof cover for it that folds out from a flap on the bottom. It is sturdy, rugged and my ixus 70 sits snugly in it with room for cards and additional batteries. If black isn’t your colour it is also available in blue.

I feel a lot more confident playing around with the settings on my camera and my photography has improved as a result. I like the way he has taken a photograph for each subject and then explained the settings on the right hand side. After reading the first two chapters I was able to cover up the settings, look at the photograph and predict what he had used. In no time at all I was grasping the logic and gaining confidence. A lovely book for beginners. I cannot recommend it highly enough. I also like the fact that he has explained commonly made errors in composition and lighting and illustrated the flawed results on the same page. I am starting to think about composition in a new way too. My photography skills were in a rut, this book has changed that.
Customer Review: Great for beginners and enthusiastic amateurs!
This is great if you’re keen but need a bit of practical guidance and some inspiration. This books shows you some inspirational shots as guidance and shows you the set up (eg where to stand, where to place your subject etc…) and tells you the ISO, aperture, shutter speed etc… for many of the pictures. It is jargon-free, easy to read and split into useful chapters, including portriats, moving objects, taking pictures of children, close ups, night shots, etc… People criticising this book have missed the point; it is MEANT to be simple, it isn’t aimed at people who are already pretty proficient at photographs, it is aimed at people like me who are moving on from a compact and need a bit of guidance to get the best from the camera. If that’s you then this is the book for you.

Let see how Canon respond this, one is scrap.
Customer Review: (Almost) Faultless
Bought this camera a year ago. The only niggle that I have is the lack of a battery meter. It is the best ‘point and shoot’ digital camera that I have used/owned. It is small and easy to use.

This compact yet powerful camcorder comes with a 40 GB hard drive and ACVHD technology for storing hours of videos in Full HD 1080i format. The HDR-SR10 is equipped with a Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T lens and a 2.36-megapixel CMOS sensor, meaning you can capture all of life?s best moments in great quality. The HDR-SR10 also has an x.v.Colour and BIONZ image processing technology for breathtaking results, and gives users a full range of handy functions such as spot metering and focusing so they can adjust and set exposure and definition on its touch screen. The HDR-SR10 includes a Zebra function, which solves the problems of overexposure and white balance, and a special photo mode that allows you to take photos in up to 4 megapixels directly onto your memory card. Its face detection mode highlights all the beaming smiles in your photos, and its Pictbridge compatibility and scene modes, as well as special effects and faders, let you give free reign to your creativity. Also offering HDMI connectivity, the HDR-SR10 really does justice to your photos!
Amazon Price: ?496.46
Customer Review: Great camera
Got mine from Amazon at the end of May ‘08. Compared to my previous tape camcorder, the HDD is a joy to use - no more cueing-up or worrying about taping over things & playback is very simple being able to jump straight to the scene you want. Supplied software works fine on the PC, but I haven’t yet got it working with my (older) iMac and iMovie - the reviewer above has had success with an Intel Mac and iMovie 08. High-Def does chew up a lot of disc space on both the camera and computer but I’m very happy with the results for day-to-day family stuff in standard definition. Not too bulky, supplied cradle / charger is great & battery life is excellent. Very pleased all round, recommended.
Customer Review: Great Camcorder , Great Price.
I received the Sr10e from amazon a little over a week ago. The supplied accessories are very good. The camcorder records well and to a high quality. It does have some small issues with focusing but only in the odd case. Battery life , recoding in full hd with auto settings is 99 minutes with supplied battery. Battery charging is very quick with a full cycle in around 1 hour. This works fine with imovie 08 and a 2.0ghz intel imac with 1gb ram (2gb+ is reccomended though) I have not tried the supplied software as it is un necessary when using a mac. The supplied dock is very good quality and is very easy to use. Still photos are of average quality but that’s to be expected! All in all my first impressions are that this is an excellent camcorder at a great price!

With Sony?s HDR-SR1 camcorder, you’ll be able to immortalise all those special moments in life! The HDR-SR1 is equipped with a 30 GB hard drive and uses AVCHD technology, a format capable of rendering spectacular DVD-quality pictures in 1080i. The high-definition HDR-SR1 also includes a CMOS sensor for rich, colourful images and clear video sequences. You can record video and even take 2-megapixel photographs using Memory Stick PRO and duo memory cards. It is also equipped with a Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T lens for high-quality digital photos. Plus, the HDR-SR1 includes an electronic Super SteadyShot mode for a stable, constant picture and a NightShot mode so you can even record at dusk. Your evenings with friends will be captured with excellent rendering in luminous pictures with rich, vibrant colours. The HDR-SR1 has a 3.5? LCD touch screen so you can view your recordings, and it’s Pictbridge compatible, so you can print your photos directly. The HDR-SR1 is equipped with video, video component and HDMi outputs so you can enjoy all your photos and recordings on a high-definition TV.
Customer Review: HD Editing
Great camera with some nice features, including TV on-screen zoom facility via handset - easy to use and no problems encountered yet. Don’t know if it’s relevant but Serif’s MoviePlus5 software supports HD video format (is this the same as AVCHD?) and DVD Authoring. I have not purchased or tried it!
Customer Review: SR1 - You CAN edit - Options
The SR1 is a great camcorder and a quick way to get your own HD footage onto your HDTV via an HDMI cable. But as other reviewers have pointed out - editing is not so simple - AVCHD (.m2t files) is quite new and is not supported yet by the common NLEs (non linear editor programs) Options are: 1. Supplied software will enable you to burn footage to a DVD (-R) which will play as HD in a PS3 (it will NOT play in a normal DVD player which is only SD - standard definition) 2. Elecard sell HD conversion software which converts from AVCHD to HDV which can be edited (most NLEs - Premiere Pro etc) 3. Sony Vegas (version 7e only) and Pinnacle v11 supports AVCHD which will allow you to edit on the PC and (theoretically at least) move the edited footage back to the SR1 for viewing in HD on a HDTV You could of course get a blu-ray burner too!! I think the options will grow as more AVCHD camcorders ship - although anything that edits AVCHD is going to be very processor and memory intensive
Read more..

It offers a small size light weight and superb mobility made possible by SD/SDHC Memory Cards letting you shoot video with the same casual ease and carry-about convenience they enjoy with small digital still cameras. For occasions when in the past it may have seemed a bit awkward to pull out a camcorder such as on short outings or business trips the SDR-S7 is ideal..
Amazon Price: ?179.99
Used Price: ?161.67
Customer Review: Absolutely brilliant!
I bought a Canon camcorder only 6 months ago and never really got on with it as it was not really small enough to fit in a pocket and only recorded for 30 minutes onto mini dvds so I decided to get this tiny Panasonic and it is FANTASTIC! I took it to Sri Lanka on my holiday and with an 8gb SDHC memory stick I recorded for over 4 hours. It is so light and small that you can take it anywhere, it is up and running in seconds, and by the end of the holiday everyone in the group was taking the model number and wanting to get one too. It was smaller than most people’s digital still camera. The quality is great and with the digital zoom going up to 700x with a steady hand I could shoot fruit bats that the others could not even see at the top of a tree in the next field! You will definitely not regret buying one.
Customer Review: Great portable, compact camcorder
First camcorder that I’ve bought and it works great. Super compact size, very light and with an 8GB card you can get a couple of hours of storage. Unlike DV and tape camcorders, it is extremely simple to edit and merge clips on a PC or Mac. Most impressively it starts up in seconds and the sound is very good, even when zoomed in.

If you look on the web you will get further information on this issue. It is sad that this unit suffers from this problem as it has a number of great features.
Customer Review: roar
heeheehee this is great and cool and I want another one.it has a night vision mode and it’s not green like the normal ones but it shines uv light at you and you go purple in the dark, and it doen’t hurt your eyes (unless you turn the LED light on) and it re-adjusts to the light when you turn it on. zooms good, but you might need to re-focus it manually. tripod recomended, the HAMA STAR 61 is great… but thats a different product.
