I have more than one occupation - which one should I select?
If you or any driver has more than one occupation, please call us on 0800 99 1066 for a quotation as we are unable to offer you an on-line quotation.
What do I do if I do not know the registration number of the vehicle?
When entering the details of your vehicle, if you do not have a registration number, please just click on “Get Vehicle” and select your vehicle from the drop down boxes.
If you know the registration number of your vehicle, enter this and click on “Get Vehicle”. We will find the vehicle details for you and ask you to confirm these are correct. If the incorrect vehicle details are shown, please click “no” and proceed to manually select the correct vehicle.
If you have not previously entered a registration number during your quotation you must enter it on the Summary page when buying your policy.
Please note that we can only cover vehicles that are registered with DVLA (Swansea).
What is Estimated annual mileage?
This is the total mileage that you estimate that your car will do in the next year, including use by you and any named driver, for pleasure and business purposes (if included).
If I have to make a claim, will the value I enter be the amount you will pay me for my vehicle?
Please note that in the event of a total loss, we will pay the market value of your vehicle immediately before the loss and not the estimated value you have given. If your vehicle is less than 12 months old at the time of the loss, we will replace it with a new vehicle of the same make, model and specification - see the Car Insurance policy for the terms and conditions.

Which employment status should I select?
When identifying your occupation we first ask “What is your employment status”? The list of adjacent occupations and employer business types are then customised according to your employment status. For example, selecting an employment status of “Household Duties” will customise the occupation list to show only the applicable “Housewife” and “Househusband” entries and will default employers business type to “Not in employment” making your occupation selection easier. Similarly, selecting an employment status of “Full time Education” will show only those occupation entries relating to student activities where you are “Not in employment”.
I cannot find an exact match for my occupation or employer’s business?
If you cannot find an exact match, please select the description that most closely matches the occupation or business. If you still cannot find a match, please call us on 0800 99 1066 and we will help you.

What is No Claim Bonus and is mine acceptable to you?
Every year you hold a policy in your own name, you build up a No Claim Bonus, providing you do not make a claim. The amount of No Claim Bonus available to you will be shown on your renewal notice from your current insurer. If you go on to accept a policy with us and you are claiming No Claim Bonus, you will be asked to enter details of your previous insurer and policy number and provide proof of your earned No Claim Bonus. Your No Claim Bonus is only acceptable to us if:
it has been earned in the UK on a Private Car policy in your own name, within the last 2 years, and
it is not being used on another policy.
Please note that if a claim is made or arises under your policy, when you renew your policy, the No Claim Bonus may be reduced or lost.
Why should I protect my No Claim Bonus?
If you do not protect your No Claim Bonus and a claim is made or arises under your policy, your No Claim Bonus may be reduced or lost when your policy is renewed. Protected No Claim Bonus allows you to maintain your No Claim Bonus even if a claim is made under your policy.
Please note that Protected No Claim Bonus can only be included when you first take out a policy or renew it, and you are usually limited to the amount of claims you can make - please see the endorsements section of the quotation and the policy booklet for further details.
What claims must I disclose?
Please note that it is important to disclose any incidents or claims within the last 3 years, as we check all policies against the Claims and Underwriting Exchange Register. This is a database that holds details of claims made against previous motor insurance policies. Failure to disclose previous claims could invalidate your policy cover or claim.
Even if the loss was not covered under your policy (i.e. your vehicle was damaged and you only had TPFT cover), the total cost did not exceed your excess or you decided not to claim, these are still incidents and should be entered as a claim.
If any driver has had more than 3 accidents, claims or losses in the last 3 years, we are unable to provide you with a quotation on-line. Hastings Direct may still be able to offer you car insurance - please call us on 0800 99 1066.
What is an at fault claim?
An “at fault” claim is one where you were not able to recover a policy excess and/or some or all of your no claims bonus has been disallowed.
All Theft and Fire claims are considered “at fault” claims.
