Customer Review: Great fun, but not perfect
My 1 year old daughter was given this for her birthday last week and the one time we have had it up so far was a great success with both her and her 4 year old brother having lots of fun. As I said though, it is not perfect. Firstly it is the standard ‘pop-up’ design where popping it up is fine but getting it back in the box is a nightmare for any parent! We have given up on collapsing the large red tent part of it. The photos on the instructions are next to useless. What this really needs is an instructional DVD. Secondly there is no way to connect the four sections together. The means that they all move around and get disjointed as the children play in them. Just some connecting velcro or ties would have been a nice touch.

Customer Review: Amazing!!!
I read this book because i was getting bored with the usual girly reads and i’m so glad i did! This book is amazing. The descriptions are fantastic, not too long that you get bored but so accurate you can picture yourself driving through cornwall and digging the garden with them! I love cornwall so the combination of the area and the history behind the house is great. I loved the way the book goes between the past history of pearl, the hidden secrets behind their lives and the love story interlinking it all! The final chapter was enough to make me reach for the tissue box! A great read which leaves you wanting more and more! Read it cause you’ll love it!
Customer Review: Well worth reading
Despite an intriguing premise I was a little bit dubious as to how two sets of characters divided by a century might gel to a satisfactory conclusion. I need not have worried. The story tracks the fortunes of Mel Pentreath, a lecturer who takes a sabbatical from her job in London to go to write and heal her emotional wounds in Cornwall. A love story at its best. As a reader I found myself captivated by the story to find who, if anyone would win Mel’s heart as she finds herself confronted with potential male suitors - both past and present. The story of Pearl, set one hundred years earlier is equally enchanting. A fantastic read, great characterisation, truly unputdownable. One of those books that stays with you long after you finish reading it.

Customer Review: Nice and easy does it!
I bought this as a replacement for the Salter 1600 which uses the same accurate strain-gauge measuring engine. The Salter 3003 wins hands down over the 1600, because it uses proper push buttons, and weighs ingredients up to 5kg not a mere 3kg. While not quite instant, the 3003 has a good and well-damped response, you don’t have to hang about waiting for the reading to stabilise while adding ingredients. It is not cluttered up with silly menu systems or redundant features found on some others we looked at. It is simple and intuitive to use, quick and accurate. What more do you need from a kitchen scale?
Customer Review: Salter Kitchen Digital Scale
I really like this, its quick, easy and accurate. You can quickly weigh ingredients in sepearte plate by placing the plate on the scales and then zeroing out the reading and then placing the ingredient. It weighs metric, imperial and metric and imperial fluids as well. If you want accurate measurements then then this is the one

Cbeebies In The Night Garden HAHOO Kid’s Cushion
Customer Review: Hahoo!
Like almost every other under five in the country my son loves the show ‘In the night garden’. To ease his transition from cot to bed we bought him the official duvet and on a whim I bought this pillow to go with it. It’s a really nice item, very cuddly and a reasonable size. It is very soft, like cushties if that helps anyone. My son loved it. I heard him in the morning when he woke up saying ‘hahoo’ to himself. Best of all, when the craze is over this will still be a pillow…and those are always good to have extras of! Unlike a lot of the cheap toys available I would say this was worth the money. ; )

In The Night Garden - Who’s Here?

The Memory Garden -

In The Night Garden - Who’s Here?
Chances are there’s barely a parent of a toddler in the country who hasn’t encountered In The Night Garden in some form over the past few months. The latest BBC-hit from the CBeebies channel, and with a passing resemblance to Teletubbies, this debut DVD for the show brings together five episodes. And many parents already, we suspect, will have their credit cards ready.

In true childrens’ television tradition, In The Night Garden is often as alien to adults as it is compelling to its real target audience. But heck, do children love it. Accompanied by the gentle narration of Sir Derek Jacobi, it’s billed a nursery rhyme picture book of sorts. This manifests itself in the shape of a wild mix of children and characters, who get up to a mixture of diverse and diverting activities.

And this is one of the many areas where In The Night Garden strikes gold. Not only does it have a distinctive and warm collection of characters, but it does have an educational undercurrent to it all. In short, it engages its target audience particularly well, and teaches them a little in the process.

The DVD is rounded off with special bonus footage and a parents’ guide, but it’s the five episodes that are set to be spun time and time again. And rightly so. Expect this to be the first DVD release of many, too, for a show with many, many years ahead of it. –Jon Foster

Customer Review: when we were wise
What age is this extraordinary programme aimed at, I wonder ? Some of the reviews indicate that older children of 5 or 6 love it, as well as pre-schoolers (at which it is aimed) and adults. Ben Bold has his own agenda which made me smile…see his review. All I can say is that it has a particular quality of excellence that you associate with something of timeless appeal. My 2 year old grandson, his father and mother and I all watch in a state of almost helpless fascination. It is calming, very surreal, mysterious almost zen-like. Maybe, in the Night Garden, we all return to the old Garden from where we all came………
Customer Review: its perfect
i think all the in the night garden storys are wonderful. i have three young children and along with my husband we watch as a family. i find their way of kissing and hugging a good way to show young children love and friendship without corrupting their minds. i would much rather see those weird characters hugging and kissing than most thing we see on childrens tv. some people may find the repeating phrases annoying but it teaches children different sounds very much like the teletubbies did. my two year old son is disabled and has difficulty communicating but since he started to watch it he has been making more sounds and enjoys having them repeated back to him. also the calming voice of derek jacobi makes it a little bit grown up as he is a great actor and adults can relate to him. my husband noticed it before the kids. you get used to the names and songs the more you watch. the voices and repetative phrases become conversational to young kids. it sets their imaginations wild and they have more fun with it. i am sure that any young child who watches it will grow up to be talented in some why. painting, writing, things you have to have an imagination for. thank you for reading my review, i hope you found it useful ashley charles, wife, mother and fan

Customer Review: Beware this CD out dated and now repackaged
I discover that this CD old CD was once called Romany Growing Plants and has now been re-packaged. Read the review in the March issue of Computer Active you'll see it says Romany Growing Plants is also available as Your Garden Encyclopedia from Focus. This program starts to wilt under close scutiny. First of all, the interface feels incredibly dated, and although the cover claims that the program is 'interactive' it can hardly carry this clain by modern standards. Quite what the use is of features such as a 10,000-yeal diary, address book and calculator escapes us, and while some ground is made up in the program's broad coverage of plant types and characteristics, there is a consistant lack of depth to the information. altogether this package falls short for anyone seeking real practical help in the garden, and at no pointdoes it feel like a product that has been designed with the UK gardener in mind.
Customer Review: Does not live up to expectations
This CD does not live up to expectations, I thought from the description that it it had a vast range of plants and information but it turned out to lack many of my garden plants. My overall impression was it is of inferior quality. It was not expensive and so has my two star rating.

Filmed before (and quite nicely) in 1949, Frances Hodgson Burnett’s classic children’s story was remade for this admirable 1993 release, executive produced by Francis Ford Coppola and directed by acclaimed Polish filmmaker Agnieszka Holland. Splendidly adapted by Edward Scissorhands screenwriter Caroline Thompson, the film opens in India during the early 1900s, when young Mary Lennox (Kate Maberly) is orphaned and sent to England to live in Misselthwaite Manor, the gloomy estate of her brooding and melancholy uncle, Lord Craven (John Lynch). Because the uncle is almost always away on travels, struggling to forget the death of his beloved wife, Mary is left mostly alone to explore the estate. Eventually she befriends the young brother of a staff maid and Lord Craven’s apparently crippled son, who has been needlessly bedridden for years. Together the three children restore a neglected garden on the estate grounds, and in doing so they set the stage for a moving reaffirmation of life and love. Filmed with graceful style and careful attention to the intelligence and cleverness of young children, The Secret Garden is that rarest breed of family film that transcends its own generic category, encouraging a sense of wonder and optimism to become a rewarding experience for viewers of any age. –Jeff Shannon

Customer Review: Enchanting tale
When an earthquake in India leaves her an orphan, Mary Lennox is sent to live at her uncle’s remote estate in England. The spoiled, bratty Mary is quite miserable with no one to talk to or play with and a stern housekeeper (Maggie Smith) hovering over her. When Mary begins exploring the manor, she discovers not only a secret garden but also a secret cousin! This is a beautifully-filmed children’s story about the power of friendship and overcoming adversity. I wasn’t familiar with the 1911 book (although I want to read it now), and I expected something awful to happen to the garden or the children, but only good things happen, so it’s ideal for kids of all ages. The Yorkshire location is lovely and the acting is uniformly wonderful. The joys of bringing an old garden to life and befriending a shut-in child are the simple, yet profound pleasures of this story. Highly recommended for those who like sweet, sentimental stories.
Customer Review: Great family movie!
We watched this for our family movie night. Our 4 and 6 year old girls were enchanted. In the middle of the movie, our 6 year old said “this is a really good movie mom.” Not a dry eye in the house at the end! We all enjoyed this movie and I’m sure this will be a family staple.

Customer Review: Works.. WORKS
These things REALLY work. Put one in the loft when we found it alive with flies,, and we had to keep emptying the unit.. Well worth the money.
Customer Review: works okay, no problems so far
When I ordered this, I was expecting a black one to turn up, as in the photo. In fact the one which was delivered was white -which looks better in a domestic kitchen I think. But it’s designed to HANG and you really have to ask yourself, do I want this thing hanging in my kitchen? Fortunately it fits above our wall units ( just) and is fairly unobtrusive. For you information, this unit is just slightly over 11 inches high. I was slightly surprised by the manufacturer’s recommendation that you need to renew the lamp every year otherwise they lose their effectiveness. Lamp failures do seem to be fairly common with these type of budget fly killers so I suggest you buy a replacement lamp as well, as I did. Finally, this is cracking value for money- my local garden centre is selling exactly the same item at ?29.99.

The Allotment Book

Customer Review: It’s okay…
If, like me, you need an allotment book which assumes you know v little, but have already made the decision to work an allotment, don’t necessarily put this book at the top of your list. i didn’t need a chapter telling me why people have allotments. i didn’t need recipes. i didn’t need to know that someone has been labeled “the queen of herbs” by jamie oliver. i didn’t need a page on bees. i need a book that allows me to look up raspberries, rhubarb, potatoes, courgettes, or whatever, and be directed to a page with everything i needed to know about those fruits/vegetables, plus a section that outlines everything i need to plan for each season. the latter section is here, and it is *almost* acceptable, but it assumes too much prior knowledge. if, like me, you didn’t pick up a lifetime’s worth of gardening tips from your ancient relatives, e.g. you don’t know exactly how to “force” a vegetable, how to prune, etc., then this book isn’t the one you need. fair play to the guy - it probably does have a large audience and it’s good value for money - but it isn’t being marketed at its real audience.
Customer Review: Great for new allotmenteers…
..I got myself a plot on an organic farm ealrier this year. Apart from growing the odd thing whilst I grew up, I was starting from scratch. This book doesn’t go into great detail about every plant, but it isn’t an encyclopaedia of allotment plants so it isn’t to be expected. It does give excellent important notes for plants though and contains information about the whole allotment experience. There are photographs galore to inpsire allotmenteers, the calendar section has been a godsend to newbies like me, and the recipes section is great too (my wife used his carrot cake recipe and it was gorgeous! Thanks Heather!). He gives advise on companion planting, composting, storring your harvest, and many more essential matters. I learn’t a lot from reading his book, you can really feel his passion for growing fruit and veg, and this rubs off onto the reader.
