Advantages Of Using Heating Oil

Gas and oil are two of the more popular methods of heating the home. There are millions of homes across the world using heating oil as the fuel to heat their homes. The main source of heating oil is crude oil but these days biofuels are actually used too. Kerosene, diesel and a mixture of residual fuel and distillate fuel are the three main types of petroleum heating oil. Although kerosene has the least impurities, this fact makes it the most expensive. Diesel has more impurities than kerosene but is more affordable and is the choice for most homes.

The global cost of crude oil is constantly changing and this directly affects the price of heating oil. However the price of heating oil can be affected by other factors too. The price of oil can rise quite suddenly if there is a sudden demand for oil due to a drop in weather temperatures for example. The wise people however, will fill their oil tanks up during the summer months when the prices are generally lower. That way there is no need to pay the high prices when the cold weather kicks in. But those who wanted to really take advantage of the lower prices could think about installing another tank so that they could have two tank fulls of cheaper priced oil before the higher prices appear.

Another form of heating that is used instead of heating oil is natural gas. It has one direct advantage over gas and that is the fact that it is more readily available and is pumped directly into the home. Unlike oil, gas does not need to be ordered in but rather is available all the time when it is required. However in recent times the price of gas has been increasing steadily and many people still favour oil because of this. Plus, oil is still the only choice of heating for many homes in rural areas.

Heating ones home in the cold months of winter can cost a fair packet. Electricity and gas prices are very high and show no signs of coming down any time soon. Many individuals are now changing over to cheaper home heating oil though. After the changeover they have to make sure that the storage tanks are always full of cheapest heating oil to ensure they never run out.
